  1. CD Scratchin' on Control Digital Audio With Turntables · · Score: 2

I tell you what there boy! a year are so ago i bought a Tascam CD-302. It's a duel deck DJ CD Player with Scratchem' Pads and crap. It's outrageously over priced at c. $1000, but damn it's fun. The scratching function is nothing like scratching a real vinyl, but with a lot of practice it sounds decent.

I took some vinyls and recorded them into my COMPUTAR and DRAGGED AND DROPPED THOSE WAV FILES ONTO MY CD-BERNER ICON and produced an audio CD. During playback you get all the deliscious pops and snaps and hiss, and you aren't damaging your vinyls.

HEAR THIS NOW! I recommend that if you beat mix or stuff like that, then go ahead and record your vinyls to CD and playback through a CD-302 or the like.. your vinyls will last longer and you don't have to worry about replacing needles and stuff. Plus you have access to looping and pitch shifting functions.

However if you intend to do any REAL scratching, stick to vinyl. You can get scratch like effects from digital players, but it will be a long time before they have REAL scratching. PEACE OUT MUTHA.

  2. I disregard this as fluff... on Comcast Gunning for NAT Users · · Score: 3, Informative

I beleive that this so called department at comcast that enforces the AUP is a bunch of HOO-HA. All these people do all day is port scan users all day long looking for open socks servers. And when they find one they send a pre-formed 'assertive but peaceful' letter explaining that the user is violating the AUP and to stop pretty please. Just like when the cable TV portion of the company comes to your house to install or repair something. After they do the repairs, the tech will take you downstairs, show you the splitters that he had to disconnect because it violates their service agreement, and then he shows you how to reconnect them after he's gone. He doesn't care, and the cable company doesn't really care because they know that when push comes to shove, if they start disconnecting people for using more than 1 TV, or computer in their house, they'll end up losing in court, just like the telephone companies did in the 70's or 80's or whenever. If you pay for a certain ammount of bandwidth to your household, once inside your household, what you do with that bandwidth is your business and your's alone. In St. Louis, there is actually a company that offers to configure your broadband connection (cable, dsl, etc..) for NAT and firewalls, etc. They're called "The Digital Closet" I WILL LOCATE URL 4 U.. http://www.thedigitalcloset.com/ oh god their website sucks.. but it exists i guess. If all else fails and someone calls you threatening you with a disconnect.. just pretend to be a confused old man or woman, and say that your young trial lawyer grandson set-up your LAN. If that doesn't scare them, then use the method where you fall down on the ground and soil yourself and shake violently. That will work too.

  3. Timeslots on The Tick to be Cancelled · · Score: 2

I disagree that the timeslot had anything to do with the demise of the show. Timeslots become popular because of the shows, not the other way around. NBC has 0wn3d Thursday evenings ever since the cosby show, but before the cosby show it was fair game. After that, they put their best crap their to maintain their thursday night audience. Of course now they are losing to survivor but that is besides the point. Thursday night is the biggest TV night for no reason other than the popularity of the cosby show. My basic point being that, aside from like the 2am-7am time slots, the quality of the show dictates it's popularity far more than the timeslot.

Furthermore, as TiVo and similar technology popularizes, hopefully the networks will realize that they can run more series in the 2am-7am timeslots, because suddenly timeslots are irrelevant because people will watch the show whenever they want to. It'd be nice if they would run entire seasons of the simpsons, etc. marathon style during the off hours for the convinience of tivo viewers.

I stand before you tonight asking myself one question! "What does 'Foe' mean?". I, being a blithering fool, have a limited vocabulary and cannot define this word. Now 'Friend' on the other hand, I am aware of it's meaning. A friend is someone who beats you up prior to school and confiscates your lunch allowance. I had several friends throughout my childhood, all of whom took great joy at depriving me of a wholesome mid-day meal. Thankfully today, within my fortress of solitude, I am impervious to such attacks and have all my meals delivered to me by this fantastic 'Meals on Wheels' service. Both a clever name, and a pleasant dining experience. However, i was unaware, untill just now, that these 'Friends' have penetrated my computer! Whatever shall I do!? This tragic turn of events mimmics the tradgedy that befell me not more than 7 years ago when my Television Set was invaded by 'Friends'. Six 20-somethings that every Thursday evening conspire to keep me from my salsbury steak. I have written countless letters to Her Majesty but she is yet to reply. I fear her delay in correspondence would be due mal-nutrition brought about by a similar invasion of 'Friends'.

On a final note, I urge you to reconsider your addition of 'Friends' and 'Friendliness' and 'Friendlies' to your periodical. As for 'Foes', i beleive that any enemy of 'Friends' is a commrade of mine. Thank you.
