    Well spoken.

Sadly, the idiots in CONgress are doing all that they can to destroy NSA and other aspect of our security.
What I find interesing is that NSA (the agency, but not all individuals) works hard to avoid spying on Americans. As such, Boston happened. Had those 2 contacted a KNOWN terrorists, we would have known about them. But that was not the case.

Look, when he spoke about spying on Americans, it was somewhat whistle blowing (individuals were being spied on by individuals, but NOT by the agency; at least, he has not shown otherwise). And the fact that those individuals were let go, rather than prosecuted is actually a concern. They should be doing time for that.

BUT, once he spoke about spying on others OUTSIDE out nation, he became a traitor. Look, nearly all nations spy on each other. Perhaps the worse is China, BUT, USA (along with our partners in 5i) is doing their share, as is France, Germany, Russia, Brazil, Japan, Israel, etc. And none of that is ILLEGAL per USA or even UN laws.

As such, he is also a traitor. To claim that this is political discussion is a joke.

Now, for being able to drill most anywhere, you need to go deeper with a supply well that pushes a working fluid through cracks out to other collection wells that then generate steam. This concept was developed in America back in the 70's, but was stopped by reagan.
You will find that about 10 different implementation have/are being done. 2 are worth looking at, which is the Aussie's project (google for australia geo-thermal habenero and that should tell you something ).
The other big one is America's EGS over in Oregon. It is located by an extinct volcano (newberry) and like the Aussie project is moving forward and looking good.

However, in 2008, the GOP forced this to be a closed issue. So, we do not know what has happened under O, but considering that neo-cons/tea* have been on the intelligence committee to review this, I would guess that things improved.

OTOH, the author clearly misses the point on why the data is sent to UK, and back, AND why data from all of the west and many other nations pass through USA, rather than keep it local.

First off, most oil wells in America are currently drilled at 6000-10000' feet deep. That is, 1.5 - ~3 KM deep. Secondly, many of those oil wells have temps of 125-150C.
With fractional drilling and the pump out of these areas, one smart idea is to drill and bend at around 12K' under a number of oil wells that are mostly spent. Then use that to push either water or CO2 through and heat up.

Now, as to Yellowstone, you can drill less than 1000' and hit loads of places with LOTS of heat. And yeah, they have mapped it already. What is missing is that the laws forbid it, yet, I think that they are making horrible mistakes. A simple binary system would work great there. AND, it could be used to return large amounts of minerals that can be pulled from the water.

So, where are they getting the money for this nightmare? By gutting private space inside of NASA. Even now, when it was agreed to that private space would get a TOTAL of 2B, for funding 3 companies to be ready by 2015, the neo-cons cut that and has forced NASA to limit the downselect to ONE private space company.
Then we have again, both neo-cons/teabaggers pushing the nightmare of keeping our M1A1 tank lines going. Yet, the DOD IS SCREAMING THAT IT IS NOT THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT FOR FUTURE wars. Worse, we have plenty of core M1A1 tanks. But the house is blocking the stoppage of the line.
