Simple as that. They are installing a network, getting it right and then will start building it out. It IS an unlimited model and it will put immense pressure on everybody else to change to that model. After all, that is the way REAL competition works.
America's problem is that the American politicians, esp. neo-cons, have been pushing monopolies for all solutions. IOW, they love the communist model. Hell, just look at the all of the neo-cons pushing Constellation and now SLS, over what private space can do for a FRACTION of the money.
First off, the range is increasing yearly. There are a new set of batteries that the DOD is buying that is about 1.5x what current tech gets. And you can bet on it that other new tech will increase that further, or better yet, kill off the battery and give us ultra-caps.
Regardless, by moving to electric cars, busses, and trains, it then allows a common carrier: Electricity.
What is needed is for the west to move to Natural Gas for their commercial vehicles and large passenger vehicles. Ideally, these would be serial hybrids. Regardless, by dropping our use of oil for transportation, the west can quit importing oil from nations like Iran, Russia, and Venezuela.
Yes, but it needs to be based on an AREA, not by item. In addition, it needs to be normalized based on GDP, not per capita. Finally, if needs to be based on REAL numbers, not estimates. So, for CO2, it should be monitored by a satellite that shows CO2 going in and out of an area. The same needs to be true of other pollution such as mercury.
Why would you want to convert water to hydrogen? Wether you burn it in an ICE or use a fuel cell, it will STILL be more far more expensive and inefficient than simply using batteries. This has been shown over and over here.
No, it does not. Last time that W did this, the companies were suppose to invest it here. They simply diverted their local money to paying 100% of the dividends and then used the tax-free money for doing the local development. IOW, the money simply flowed into tax-free dividends.
Out best bet is to put rescind W's/neo-cons tax cuts and apply it to all of the money that is offshore. In addition, roll back the ability to subtract the offshore taxes from our taxes. IOW, if they are going to offshore, fine. They simply have to pay here and there.
I would have to say that businesses will never re-import the jobs. Instead, new products must be created by new companies and then protected via decent IP (though I think that we need to kill off method patents; one of the more evil things that the courts have done/allowed).
Lenovo is VERY MUCH an arm of the Chinese gov. All of the top ppl are buried deep into the Communist party. Just because Chinese Gov. does not have a direct ownership, does not mean that they do not control them. It is no different than Air America was for USA. Even Huawei is in the same category. Basically, not openly owned by Chinese gov, however, 100% controlled by it.
Finally, the vast majority of China is NOT capitalism. The majority remains under Chinese control. Only those companies that export, as well as things like small farms, are 'capitalism'.
The 787 is built all over the world. They brought a harvard MBA from GM that said that by outsourcing, they could solve all of their issues. The 787 is such a disaster in terms of time delays and screw-ups, that it is now officially worse then the 747 was (and that was cutting technology).
However, Boeing DID open a plant in NC to assemble aircrafts and it is going even now, as we speak. So, no, it is the f'ing business idiots.
Oh, there is little doubt of that. However, it is STILL more than what large American companies have done. Hell, you have ppl like Carly Fiorina, Meg Whitman, Immelt, Rometty, Palmisano, Dell, Gates, Jobs, etc arguing that the best way to help American companies is that they be allowed to bring back tax free the money that W/neo-cons tax breaks gave them. Of course, we did this once already, and NONE of it was used to create new jobs here in the USA. So it is twisted that it is even being suggested.
Yeah, I have little faith in Chinese companies, since 99% of them are controlled by the Chinese gov, OR are loyal to their nation (and I do not blame them for that). BUT, America's large business leaders are the worse scum on this planet.
American companies can not build here, but Chinese can. Just amazing how bad American leadership has become.
At this point, if the west really wants to acknowledge China's gov cold war and take it on, then we should start sending as many MBA's to China as humanly possible. Of course, the Chinese will probably realize it and simply put a bullet in each one of them and then charge the USA for it, while subsidizing and dumping the rest of the ammo on America's market.
What makes li-ion batteries expensive is not the li, or other chemicals. Likewise, it is not the labor. It is the expense of heating the li up to 1250C. Now, to create these batteries, you have to go to higher temps In addition, it has said nothing about charge cycles.
My issue is one of intention, as well as breadth. Mannings intentions were to harm America. It was not because he objected to the nightmare that W/neo-cons had created.
In addition, I suspect that wikileaks has a LOT more information. Information that was not been released yet. And I am guessing will NOT be released as long as USA or other western nations involved, do not move directly against 'them' (wikileaks, assanage, etc) to get it back.
As much as I believe that Manning is a traitor (and should be executed), Assange and wikileaks are NOT in the same arena. Basically, Manning is not just an American citizen, but also took an oath. Just to get back at the USA over our military policy towards gays, he released all sorts of document that threaten ALL Americans.
But, Assange/Wikileaks are not us citizens/located in America. Assange has not taken a loyality oath to America. The list goes on and on. There is no reason to list either of them as the enemies. At worse, Assange/wikileaks are serving as a fence of stolen info.
Actually, multiple ways to get ethanol. One way is simple fermentation via yeast. Another is using Algae. And the newest and most promising is using cyano bacteria and other prokaryotes.
Down the road, Joules Unlimited will produce most, if not all of our ethanol. And all without a subsidy. Why? Because they use our SEWAGE to create ethanol AND diesel at a cheaper cost. In fact, they claim to produce ethanol at less than $1.28/gal and diesel at less than $50 BBLE.
And to make matters interesting, they are scaling up. They have multiple foreign investors who want to spread this around the world.
Actually, I have pushed Apple for some time. The reason is that they have a decent OS. In fact, my 75 y.o dad switched my 70 y.o mother from Windows to Apple based on what I was suggesting. Why? Because once he does die, he needs to leave my mother in a decent situation.
My post is about the issue here is that Apple likes to portrait themselves as a different company. They are not. That is my point. And you need to re-read what I wrote. if you noticed, I DID in fact list off other companies that I knew used foxconn. Apple still sux as bad as the rest. Simple as that.
Apple that is. I expect this of Foxconn. In fact, if it did not make the press, I doubt that foxconn OR APPLE would have cared.
As long as Apple can make larger and larger profits, they will continue this behavior.
Time to buy some quality Chinese owned computers, put on Linux and send a nasty message to Apple, Microsoft, HP, IBM, Dell, GE, etc.
Apple is the ONLY one with ANY innovation, and they sux as bad as the rest when it comes to morals.
They are trying to take over the presidency and both houses (but losing all of it). The real issue is, when can we get those ppl to start creating jobs in America, rather than in China who continues to line their pockets.
Skip the gas milage requirement. It really does not work. Instead put a slowly increasing tax on gas and diesel. At the same time, use part of that to improve our roads/bridges, and another part to get new Natural gas commercial vehicles, and large passenger vehicles, as well as smaller electric passenger vehicles.
The reason is that it would require China to make REAL HONEST CHANGES, and that is not going to happen. Right now, they are by far the largest polluter in the world. By 2015-6, they are expected to account for 1/2 of all CO2 emissions. Before 2020, they are expected to account for more than 1/2 of all emissions that man has EVER done.
So, what would it take to stop this? Well, China is building 1-3 new 1GW coal plant EACH WEEK. Worse, they do not run pollution controls on these. At the same time, USA is shutting down ours, and switching to NG (due to economics). Here is a list of closing coal plants and
here is a list of proposed or intended to be constructed coal plants.
If you sort the closing plants based on the year, you will see several hundred plants are scheduled to be closed (with more expected).
OTOH, if you sort the NEW coal plants on status, and then go to the end of the table, you will find that there are 4 new plants in upcoming, 4 in progressing/projected/startup. More importantly, there are a LARGE number of ABANDONED and CANCELED plants. Why? Because NG is too cheap to go after Coal.
As such, America's Co2 emissions will continue to plummet. The problem is, that even if we shut down 100% of our emissions today, within 2 years, China will emit our same amount.
The ONLY way to stop this, is for America, and ideally the west, to put a tax on ALL GOODS based on where they come from. In addition, the CO2 should not be based on estimates, or local monitoring (china cheats horrible at this), but should be based on sat monitoring of CO2(out) - CO2(in). The hard part is getting nations to put the tax based on where the CO2 comes from. It is NOT ppl, but manufacturing that decide this. Basically, the emissions should be tied to emissions PER $ GDP. In addition, it needs to start low and build up over time. If you do that, you give nations and economies time to adjust.
The only way that China will not be going to war with Japan, is if Japan steps down and allows China to dominate them economically.
And to be honest, it is better for the west to step foward now and back Japan rather than allow China to steal senkaku. The reason is that China will turn it into a military FOB to help invade Taiwan.
the real question is how soon will all of these systems be on-line? The reason is that China has a number of systems going in that are more offensive then defensive. Even their space lab is a military base just like the first 10 years of USSR's space stations (all were military outposts) or the MOB that America never built. It should be obvious that China has fully intentions of positioning themselves around the globe to take on the west. Even notice where they are helping nations to put in 'Nuclear power plants': North Korea, Iran, Burma, and now Venezuela are all putting in 'power plants' deep into the earth (over 200' down).
Simple as that. They are installing a network, getting it right and then will start building it out. It IS an unlimited model and it will put immense pressure on everybody else to change to that model. After all, that is the way REAL competition works.

The founder of Lenovo (and who still controls the company) was very active in bringing communism to CHina and fighting for the PLA.
He is a high up member of the Communist Party, while Yang Yuanqing (the current CEO) is a member of the same.
Lenovo is in the same aspect to China/Communist party as IBM/Air America/Perot's Companies was to USA gov. before traitors got ahold of them.

Yes, but there was a time when companies were HONEST. Not anymore. Far too many of these companies are disgusting liars. CONSTANT liars.
Actually, multiple ways to get ethanol. One way is simple fermentation via yeast. Another is using Algae. And the newest and most promising is using cyano bacteria and other prokaryotes.

? They do not present themselves as 'caring' companies. Apple does.

No, it is 100% correct to call him an industrialist. he IS building industries.
