    Actually he attemted to sell a device that would trick an DirecTV or E* decoder into decrypting the satellite systems. The encryption itself wansn't cracked, the DirecTV tuner gets tricked into thinking a customer has the authorization to have certain channels decrypted.

    Anyway, I love my DirecTV, and I'm happy to pay for it, and not give money to Comcast Cable!

    I live in "Shallow Alto"

    It's a bizzare place where people drive SUVs with "Greenpeace" stickers on them. When I ask them how do they justify it, they say "We need 4wd when we go skiing"

    People usually say folks in LA are shallow, but down there they drive their SUVs and won't try to rationalize it with lame excuses.

    Anyway, all the women in Palo Alto are stupid "executive wives". That probably includes Mary Frances Callan.

    What makes them immoral is that they DEMAND public money and special access to public schools. That's a lousy moral lesson to teach children.

    The Boy Scouts of America is a CHURCH for BOYS. Plain and simple. Nothing wrong with that. I belong to a church, too. (actually a synagogue.)

    But we don't take public money, nor do we demand access to children in publich schools, nor do we demand free land from the government, nor do we demand reduced rates and special treatment at national parks.

    I believe that the Boy Scouts of America has the absolute right to exclude gays. I've never once questioned that. You shouldn't jump to conclusions.

    I actually agree with them re: their position on gays.

    HOWEVER, they are actually a CHURCH for BOYS. Nothing wrong with that, if they didn't ACCEPT PUBLIC MONEY and demand ACCESS to public schools.

    The Church I belong to isn't allowed to do that. Why should the BSA?

    I don't agree with your point of view, and I share you frustration with words like "Gigabyte" that are almost always mispronounced.

    No,I'm not a flamer. I'm a big fan of Apple, and use an OS-X machine for most "desktop" tasks.

    But these Zealot Apple users do nothing to advance Apple's cause. If I report my experience (and frankly, I don't think having to reboot a couple of times a week is so bad), you call me a liar!

    If you really want people to use Macintosh hardware and software, you may try by being nicer to them! Being a clique-ish cult is a bad start.

    My Windows XP box, which is my fileserver, has been up for 5 months so far.


    My OS X box, which I use for web browsing and word processing, crashes about once every three days.


    Now, I certainly have some bones to pick with Microsoft, but Apple is no better.

    You should feel a bit sorry for me.

    In all seriousness, I think that OSX Cocoa would have a better acceptance rate if there were C++ APIs instead of Objective-C

    that's not elitism, it's true. if you can't figure out how to install a program as complex as mysql, which isn't that hard to install in osx, there's a good chance you can't use it.

    The reviewer said " if you can't figure out how to install them from the documentation then you aren't smart enough to use them" (emphasis added). That surely is elitism of the worst sort. You can be very smart and still not have the knowledge and experience necessary to use MySQL. The word "smart" is horribly elitist in this context. If he had chosen to say "arent' yet knowledgeable enought to..." then it woldn't be an issue.

    If I were a non-geek reading that review I would be offended. Hell as a geek who happens not to have learnt that much about administering databases I'm offended.
