  2. Supply and Demand? on MP3 Download Prices to Rise? · · Score: 2, Interesting
Clearly, simple supply and demand does not work here. Take a normal example: McDonalds could sell millions more Big Macs if they lower the price to $0.50, but they wouldn't want to because they are not equipped to deal with that demand and their current operating assumptions work at the $2.00 price.

However, in this case, there is almost unlimited capacity to scale the operation. Why not take advantage of this new market condition like Vanderbilt did when he revolutionized the steamship industry. He sold tickets for a lower cost and padded his slim margins by adding value and revenue to the trips by selling food and drink. The record labels wouldn't even have to sell other services because they easily cover their operating margins.

The record companies are in the unique position to lower the cost of a song to say, $0.75 and take advantage of almost costless scaling. Why wouldn't they?

The simple answer I can think of is that the quality of the product that they offer is so poor that exposure to this music will lead to less return business. Take a tip from the late, great Sam Walton and discover the power of discounting.

This news raised Intel's market cap by 74million dollars today(up 2.5 points). That means that either the market vales this new technology at 74million (about 10% of the company) OR we have a lot of stupid investors that overvalue stock because they think news like this is going to make them rich. I'm not an expert, but I am studying finance in college and I don't think people are being responsible when I see things like this. I believe that it will be the people with brains and balls that short this sock that make money.

Imagine what will happen when we have private investment accounts and someone else releases some news that only a few understand the consequences of but everyone knows is good.

Well, since GPS can attain your position to at least 3m they will know that your not driving on a public road. However, I don't know if this would put a strain on the technology (processing millions of changing positions) or if they simply decided not to implement this into their system.

If they put one in every car, they will have to release the specifications of the system; meaning that it will be hacked in no time. Probably even faster if they don't release any specifications.
