  1. Specs vs a laptop? on Microsoft Origami Unfolds · · Score: 1

I haven't had much time to finish looking through all the sites for specs, but I'm assuming for the price it can't really beat out a laptop. Just a quick search over at Circuit City shows me that I can get a decent laptop (suitable for work, mp3s, etc) for close to the price of one of these things.

  2. Advent Children? on Square-Enix Sees Profits Sink · · Score: 1

While I know that the Advent Children movie isn't related to game sales, I know a ton of American gamers, and fans of FFVII, that are boycotting Square until they release an English version of the movie.

A lot of us (I'm one of them) feel jilted because it's taken so long. The Japanese version didn't even have English subtitles (from what I know). I'm sure this isn't exactly hurting them, but this was probably the first time I looked at Square and went "I've given you so much of my time and money, and I only asked for this one! WTF!"

You're assuming that nearly 100% of his time went to GAIM? What makes this different? Does he not still have time on weekends and during evenings to work? You have to assume that he has to generate an income, of some sort, to pay bills (maybe I'm wrong, maybe he gets THAT much money from donations). But I would think he's merely only replacing one job for a better job.

  6. As odd as it sounds... on Google Launches Google Reader at Web 2.0 · · Score: 1

  7. Bandwidth Limits on Experiences with DirecWay Satellite Internet · · Score: 1

I believe you get something like 400mb every 4 hours or some crap like that. If you go over their bandwidth limits (I do), your connection slows to a less than 56k quality. Good luck, my DirecWay satellite only sees use when I need to extend my Wireless G connection.

You also have to take into consideration that some large companies also don't care about IT. Try for example your second rate credit card company, or a company that may be on its way downhill. I've worked for companies where IT isn't important yet IT is what drives their business. One thing I've learned to watch out for is any company trying to run a Java solution on an AS/400... If you're that far behind the times and can't spell WebSphere than a Win2k is not something you're going to understand. Simply put, big companies don't care either because small amounts of their people ever focus on IT. Why should they? The execs already made their money.

  9. Of course on Retired Microsoft Operating Systems Still Popular · · Score: 3, Insightful

It's not like upgrading Windows is free. If you were a small company who's focus wasn't IT would you upgrade? Hell no. Why would you? Your existing solution of Windows Crap is working just fine.

  10. Ages? on Week-Long Free-Software Class for Kids? · · Score: 2, Informative

Do NOT offer it to 8 year olds. I'm 17 and my siblings, all younger and being around that age, either A) don't have an interest or B) want to know why free solutions don't play the games they like. Simply put, offer it to Middle School and High School kids (13-17?) simply because those are the kids that can actually use it. Plus, those are the ages that take computer programming classes and such. They'll also be able to appreciate free software and a free OS.
