just send up solar powered generators on the baloons. Oh wait... the sun's U.V. makes O3 up there anyway - and when there's enough, the U.V. won't be able to get through to make any more.
Perhaps the hole is really only due to volcano's in Antarctica, and we should nuke them out of existance for our own safety!
If CFC's caused the hole, why isn't it above Europe/America? Why does it only appear in the southern summer? same time, same place. Why Antarctic (miles from anywhere) rather than Arctic? Why don't we just plug it? Ozone being easy enuf to produce, even by accident. Why do we care?
Just another example of the press printing what they're told to print, rather than the facts.
Expect more hate mail as people start to see how "evil" good crypto is. They already believe guns are evil. Of course, cars are amoral, even though they kill a lot more people. That's the power of the press.
Personally, I aim to be encrypting (or at least digitally signing) all my email by the end of the year. (Just starting to get the hang of it now).
All very good at making a point. But if you want to be taken seriously, buy a gun, join a club, learn how to use it. Exercise your constitutional rights while you still have them, and learn how to defend them while it is still legal.
Why do you think the right to bear arms was put in there? Because one day it might be your last resort.
Who is more likely to be taken seriously....
someone who has merely voiced a dissenting opinion, or someone who has the means to overthrow an unjust law?
Though not currently running FreeBSD, it is a system I *really* like and it has a lot (ports, licence...) going for it. Unfortunately, excess developers isn't on the list, it seems.
I hope that all that talent isn't lost forever.
To be honest, I'd like to see some shrinkage in the number of projects going on out there, in the hope (perhaps mistakenly) we'd see quality products turned out faster, rather than just more of them.
eg. There seems to be about a dozen HelpDesk projects out there, but none offer what our horrible old Win3.1 version did - let alone what our current crappy Win32 system does.
But I'd hate to see FreeBSD be part of the shrinkage!
Intel P VI's and AMD K10's (or will they all be owned by M$ by then? "MS Processor 2004") will be small (and low power) enough for be to play Doom IV on my palm-equivalent with full 3D glasses!
yeah - understand that much. Read somewhere that the moons composition was very unlike earth's though - ie this material isn't a part of the earth, and couldn't be the remains of anything that hit the earth either.
I confess to ignorance, but I understood the specific gravity of the moon was so different to Earth's, that it could not have been formed from material that originally came from here. Unfortunately, it couldn't be re-ejected material from the impactor either... because that would be half-way to Earth's core and not in a hurry to pop back into space.
This is why the speed of light is slowing down (E=mC^2 means you can't measure this with an atomic clock), why my house is always a mess and why my whiz-bang 2 year old computer is now a slow old dog. Those old mechanical clocks that don't keep good time any more???? They actually do, it's just that time isn't a constant either!
Anyone got a good way to benchmark this?
I've paid for windows 95 in the past and DOS even further back. I've spent a lot more on Linux distros. But I've downloaded gigabytes of stuff for "free".
The trick is - if I'm not paying for that software, who is feeding the developers? Would I be a developer if I could afford my mortgage/kids/wife without my "day" job?
Would my contribution help make our software better/stronger/faster/easier/...? (maybe not)
My point is... if more money was spent, more developers could afford to work on that free software. The software I download is not as good as it could be if more people paid for it.
I'm not critising developers, mind... just pointing out that the talent pool would be bigger if the money pool was bigger too.
Support your favorite distro - financially if possible, but I'm sure there are other creative ways too. Even clear, well checked bug reports must help.

This sounds great to me. Small M/B, reasonable graphics, sound etc. Mix with a wee power supply and a laptop HDD and I'll have a PC that I can comfortably carry to work & back. Personally couldn't care less if it had NO PCI slots, but it must have ethernet.
Things aren't perfect here, but we have a small and under-funded military. WHEN things get too bad, the reasonably well armed public can shoot all the politicians and we can start again.

considering CFC's were largely phased out before we knew about an ozone hole, I would say neither luck nor good management had anything to do with it.

a whole lot of cars with PMS.
Think I'll buy a bus.

You won't have to worry about plastic cards or PIN numbers, just zip-zap your rh/forehead.
... zip-zap or death.
Theft will be minimised - mainly restricted to the Government.
Your every purchase will of course be tracked - likely combined with traffic tracking - forget privacy.
I should point out that you will have little choice
writing letters, signing petitions blah blah
....

Cool!
I too hate spam - costs time, costs bandwidth and is just plain annoying.
... and it's not against the law for junkmailers to fill it.
I hate junkmail too. It also costs me time and money to dispose of (doesn't even burn very well!)
However, I have a mailbox
I could rip it out of the ground, get a PO box & be junkmail free.
Likewise, I can take steps to ensure I don't get any spam - but is it worth the cost/hassle?
so unhip it's a wonder your bum doesn't fall off!
looks to me like the first three posts should automatically be moderated down to -5.
ha ha ha ha ha ha - another deluded soul!
Can't get to story (slashdotted?) but I assume he was American, not Libyan?
of course I'm a virgin! ... well ... at least I was!
Can I sue the makers of poly-propylene for toasting my palm? I get zapped non-stop while wearing this stuff.
If only I could convince our sysprog to give me an LPAR on ours.
I'm pretty sure Jesus didn't set the price, although I'm sure he could produce a compiler that would justify it!

This boy believes in God, and would like to point out that anyone who can create our universe would have no trouble stacking up a few hunks of rock.
