Most people believe that Windows is synonymous with computers. Being the consumer sheeple they are, they're going to go with what hits their wallet the least—especially in a depressed economy.
You jest, but that is actually a fabulous idea because then you get a little understanding of how computers work at the same time without having to unlearn "magic" later.
I wasn't aware that the motor vehicle department had elected offices in Indiana. It certainly doesn't where I live. This is one of the problems I have with massive unelected bureaucracy.
Well, this would be akin to opening all my mail and deciding that certain things should not be delivered because they didn't feel like it. Just give up; it's a stupid practice.
Does that give the Post Office the right to screen my mail and packages for things it considers not worthy of delivery? The real problem is the way the ISPs are selling their service. It needs to become utility pricing $10/Gb or something similar. All the other utilities manage to price their service based on usage, it's time for the ISPs to step up.
I feel so much safer with the federal government enforcing truth. Especially since I can go to jail if I lie to News Corp. just because I feel like it. That's much better than people just not implicitly trusting everything they read on the internet. Let's not forget that the only way Megan was on MySpace to begin with was by ignoring the ToS—with her mother's knowledge. So by your logic, one or both of them should be guilty under CFFA as well.
Because of the way they have had to twist the CFAA in order to go after her. It's ridiculous that providing false information to an entertainment website, just because they would rather it was real, is being prosecuted as a federal crime. Mind you that she is not being "nailed" for the harassment, just the false information. PJ is appropriately unchill about it and you should care too because it affects all of us.
Using your example, where did Megan say "OMG guys I am totally going to commit suicide if you keep calling me fat"? And even if she did, it would still be tenuous to say that someone who called her fat was assisting suicide. Maybe if they handed her the razor blade... but much short of that then it's a ridiculous claim.
I'm afraid for the future if many people think like you. Having the government start prosecuting people for arbitrary charges just because you've done something that is socially unacceptable sends chills down my spine.
ought to have been charged with "assisting suicide"
Uh, what? Any laws against assisting suicide refer to facilitating the act (i.e. Dr. Kevorkian). Harassment, which the only thing this woman is guilty of, is illegal. Bending laws to try to "nail" her with something bigger is the whole problem we're discussing.
do you really think that (a constitutional amendment) is the only way to include healthcare in the list of things the federal government has the right to promote as part of the general welfare?
What's with the sarcasm? Absolutely all major changes in the role of the federal government should be authorized via constitutional amendment. That is how the system was set up, and it seems to have worked fine until recent years where it is no longer being respected by people such as yourself. Just because it's hard to ratify an amendment does not mean we should just work around it. It's difficult for a reason. Most of the country needs to be on the same page for these types of things.
How's your vision? Many people who do not have 20/20 vision think that everyone sees what they see. Vision isn't easy to quantify without going out of your way to do so.
As others have mentioned, there is also the issue of video source. All setups are not equal, and neither are the video sources. The fact of the matter is that the content industry is lagging far behind the hardware industry.
That said, those I know with perfect vision and appropriate video sources can see a drastic difference between HD and SD. Maybe that is too many qualifiers to make it worthwhile for some people at this time, but that does not make it a nonexistent difference.
Your argument is based on the assumption that the only reason someone might use a social network is for dating reasons. I think it is likely that many would be interested in the idea of connecting to other family branches. Genealogy is already an interest and hobby of many.
I don't know about the Bay Area, but the LA area already has a lot of EV charging terminals at various places that were installed when the EV1 was on the road. Obviously more would have to be installed as the number of EVs on the road increased... but the point is they were already there.
What I said only applies to the other guy then. You just happened to be the most recent in the thread. FWIW, Firefox3 with a dozen extensions starts cold in 1-2s on my MBP 2.8Ghz... not very fast compared to Safari, but not really glacial either.
It's retarded to talk about your anecdotal evidence without at least disclosing the specs of the machine. MacBook is not sufficiently descriptive as this product has existed for several years and has gone through even more iterations.

I also don't buy all this..."bad software bad" crap
What else can bad software be except bad?
You jest, but that is actually a fabulous idea because then you get a little understanding of how computers work at the same time without having to unlearn "magic" later.
You should vote those morons out of office
I wasn't aware that the motor vehicle department had elected offices in Indiana. It certainly doesn't where I live. This is one of the problems I have with massive unelected bureaucracy.
Is Ruby finally going to be acceptably fast?
Not bloody likely.
most polygamous marriages tend not to actually be about sex; they generally sleep apart
...until it is about sex.
Think of it as removing a broken feature and you'll realize it is a bug fix not a security update.
Someday we will as well if we don't stop it from happening.
If you mean that OSX is a descendant of FreeBSD then you are mistaken. OSX is a descendant of Mach, which shares a distant common ancestor with FreeBSD.
go back to the 1960's security measures
I'd be happy just going back to Sept. 10th, 2001 security. But hey, why not all the way back to the 60's?

Why complain about her getting nailed?
Because of the way they have had to twist the CFAA in order to go after her. Exactly. This is simple harassment. This in no way assists in the act of suicide. I don't know of anyone being prosecuted for talking nasty to other mentally ill kids online who ended up committing suicide.
Using your example, where did Megan say "OMG guys I am totally going to commit suicide if you keep calling me fat"? And even if she did, it would still be tenuous to say that someone who called her fat was assisting suicide. Nope. We're only happy with zero mouse buttons now!
