PovRay.
(http://www.povray.org/) Folks like to see their code DO something, ray tracing is interesting. Its free as well. PovRay has a nice C-looking scripting language and lots of examples to get started with. You might get bored fast, and want to move to something like QBasic, but I suggest Java. Most of the problem when people are starting to programming is finding something for their code to DO, with out getting to complicated. High level languages like Java or Python will allow for maximum satisfaction in minimal time.
OS X has lots of good developers tools (being unix,it would). I dont understand how some developers can enjoy programming on Window at all, unless they have not been exposed to other platforms.
There were two instances where our company's president said something to the effect that management was dissapointed at people who were putting in the minimum amount of time (40 hours). I have had vacation time denied because a project was in the works that I had written code for (code that was well tested and qualified). They wanted me to be around incase 'anything went wrong'. The only thing that went wrong was the other company not being available at all during the time I wanted to take off. This resulted in me sitting around writing comments on slashdot all week and working on low priority features all week. This has been their excuse for the last 2 times I requested even a friday off (DENIED). I have actually been called back in on my way home after a 12 hour day to fix bugs in code that everyone knew was not going to be released to the public. I dont think anyone here is getting paid accordingly, even with a huge corp. behind us, the salaries are weak. I have contributed a majority of the code in our software, there are comments all the time that if i left or was hit by a bus, the company would have to abandon ship. We are allowed 10 personal/sick/vacation days per year, all inclusive, no more. If your car breaks down on the way to work, there goes one of you vacation das. If you have the flu for 2 days, thats 2 days you will have to make up for. I have only taken 2 so far. I would be better off working for the US postal service. I dont think they know Im going postal, everything looks normal to management. Fsck this job! Im going to grep for something better.
I bet people have the best results in wood framed, drywalled houses. Does anyone know if lead paint and pressed steel fabrication has a negative effect on wi fi signals?
for, um.. ok maybe signatures. I learned cursive in first and second grade, decided it was useless, and promptly forgot it. Somewhere along the line I forgot how to write readable print as well. The only time I find myself printing anything is when I'm writing and signing a check. I cant read my handwriting at all, its useless.
Maybe the acceptance of tablet computers will make writing nescessary again.
Dont know, I'm running SMP on a vanilla consumer version (dual p3). Have not tried large memory support, but who is to say I couldnt? I think this guy is looking for a reason to use a package that is designated 'enterprise' but cant find one. I can't either, I believe it is a sales tactic. What isnt?
Bluetooth itself works quite nicely, it may take time for more technology sectors to adopt it. I could see many uses in the military especially, personal ground battle systems are increasingly more device centric. The newer issue M4 rifles have optic devices attached that integrate with nightvision head gear for low/no light targeting, this is all done through wires at this point if i'm not mistaken. The next gen tactical suit is going to be full of electronics, you wont want wires connecting everything in battle field conditions.
I tend to find out about the functionality of software I have written when the press releases come out. I'm always scratching my head, asking myself "when did I add that? Who got the idea that it could do that?" I think the people who write the press releases should at least consult with me and the other developers before getting carried away.
True, true. I can't abide by blatent lies though, it needs to be made known that 'features are in development', instead of promising things that might not ever solidify.
Score-1, off topic..
Well, yes thats if your talking about the latest generation of trance music (progressive trance)
but Trance itself is much older than Oaky and Sasha or john digweed. BT was not even in the electronic music biz when trance was originated. I can't remember the names of some of the original trance people.
Our manager(s) are always talking about the next release needing to be "NASA Safe". I've always wondered what that means exactly.
There is a big difference between 'fail safe' and 'fail proof' design. The biggest difference is that 'fail safe' exists, 'fail proof' doesnt. One problem with being in space is that when 'fail safe' systems fail safely, you can still be SOL.
The artist is almost never payed directly, unless the label screwed up the contracts royally. Very simply put, the label owns the rights to the mechanical reproduction, any one who licenses it (Apple) pays the label a rate to do so. The artist is payed based on the percentage of the rate they are entitled to as specified in their co-publishing agreement under 'royalties'.
I hope this is informative!

...so I dont know if the same rules apply. Before we went open with this project, we did contribute to a few projects. (a while ago) Generally, no one at our company minds if you are contributing to an open source project, as long as what you are developing is needed here. Although the contributions might not be immediatly revenue generating, they see the long term benefit of being involved in a wider community. The days are swiftly passing where a product that is developed completely in the dark gains widespread approval on the open market (well, they could be..).
probably looks something like this:
code -> wait for someone to report a problem -> fix!
or, more commonly known as "code and fix".
Sure, most of us can get away with that, but when you are building the most used operating system in the world...
is not the same as building without holes.
This is a waste of resources if you ask me, it wont improve the situation at all. I pity the members of this team.
One is evil and was born at Microsoft, the other is evil and was born in Germany (mostly)...
Being a long time House music producer (House was born in CHICAGO USA!) and Java programmer I have this to say:
Don't give Trance a Chance! and
Web services go much better with a cup of Java!
Ok, I really have nothing against.NET or trance.
But you won't see any trance in my record crate, and there will be no VB.NET in any of my projects!
There is a sci-fi novel titled "The Crone Experiment" in which an american scientist (Paul Crone) accidentally creates a few black holes that don't dissapate. As he is observing one, it dissapears and can no longer be measured. He forgets about it and figures it fizzled out. What actually happened is that it reached a point at which it was so massive that it fell through his containment apparatus and began to orbit the earth's core, cutting through the crust at regular intervals. Eventually it was found and scientists determined that its orbit would lessen as it grew more massive, and it would gradually suck in more and more of the planet from the inside out until earth was gone. All that would be left in earth's original orbit would be an infinitely dense dark spot the size of a basket ball, with a lonely moon spinning around it.
Melodrama aside, is this a likely scenario? Will black holes that appear to dissapate actually be falling into earth's core? Or is it impossible to generate small black holes that dont dissapate withing microseconds of creation?
That one day I would be a great engineer, and would create things that make people's lives better and more interesting. I have been doing that for 3 years now, and I have really enjoyed it. I would also like to be an US Army Ranger or a Green Beret. Or at least some kind of soldier. I think success is fighting for the greater good of man and earth. It doesn't sound that hokey if you think about it.
Ignoring them gives them no crediblilty. Refuting them acknowledges their views, no matter how silly. After all, if we never went to the moon, where did that moon rock at the Air and Space Museum in D.C. come from? Just kidding.
What would Office users care that Office 11 'supports' XML Schema? And notice they didnt say W3C Schema. Which could mean anything. And what do they mean by 'supports'? I have written an application that supports W3C Schema to the degree that it is useful to the app (its Schema driven, so it better). The only usage of XML Schema I could see applicable to Office 11 is for validation of Office created documents. Valid Office 11 documents can't be created outside of Office because Microsoft hasn't made the schema for Office 11 available (assumption). Office 11 isnt meant for Schema modelling or mapping or any other purpose related to Schemas, so who cares. Not me. Schema is confusing to novices, but for those of us who make their living implementing apps based on specifications like the W3C schema or XML, its no problem.
Its going to read/write in MS-XML, so the limitations imposed by the MS-XML parser will apply.
Which is to say that the documents could contain anything that can be parsed by the MS-XML parser. Which is and always has been up to microsoft.
excuse the pun. I got a ring from Apache Con that has a JVM built in. It can't do wireless though. The ring has to be touching a connector device to communicate. Wich it doesnt do. I have not figured out how to use this ring yet, and its too big. But it sounds like it could be programmed for similar purposes.

Ok, I really have nothing against
Your computer is transmitting an IP address!
Helpful warning, kind of one the same lines as:
Your epidermis is showing!

try that. should fix any problems you're having with XP.
If you want to keep your hardware, try this one:

They are planning to clone each one and send the copies to the nearest planetary colony. I want an owl replica please.
