I take that back internet voting can be secure however it would be a very complex endevor and very expensive.
First off lets say that they had an unlimited budget they would need to first do an eyeball scan of course this Eyeball would need to be linked to a person say by SSN. Meaning for yo uto vote your eyeball must currently have a record that the governement knows about As well as your fingerprints. once your Eyeball is scnaned then you woud be required to put on a glove or device. now this glove would then scan your fingerprints as well as take your vital signs to see if you are under duress. If you are not under duress and your finger prints are then validated you would then need to cast your votes. This system itself woudl then require to send the Eyeball scan the finger print records your SSN and your vote to be sent in intervals to the Datacenter. this would need to be done by have a intermediary datacenter that woudl have to pool the records sepereatly and then send the information. The intermediary datacenter would be required to do a double check of records recieved once this is done then they would send batches to the final datacenter. Now this would of course be a way of doing a secure online vote but the cost woudl be astronomical. as well as people who do not have at least one finger and have at least one eyeball would tehn be excluded and there for the system would be problematic for them and would not work.
So I am confused are we talking about Electronic Voting or Internet Voting. Internet Voting is in itself not very Secure. However Electronic voting is as secure as it the current voting systems are however there is just a way faster count. The one thing I think is rather funny is Internet voting may one day be impossible if the Government has its way. if all IP addresses must resolve to a Phone number like they are attempting to do well then votiong via the internet gives up that annonymity.
As for the actual Electronic Ballet system its simple in one table you store every SSN that votes. in the other table you store the votes themselv there is no correlation between the two tables other then a verification whether that SSN has been used before. if it hasn't let teh person vote away. Otherwise don't its not really that hard to do. Now once all the voting has been done you then take the removable drive out and bring it to the local counting center. there the drive is inserted into a machine and the data is transfered. Closed system means safer system right.
Seriuosly it would be rather simple wherever you go by stamps they simply use an Id you have punch in the info or scan it and out then scan the stamp package now those stamps are now assigned to your SSN. It wouldn't be that big of a problem.
I think the most interesting thing would be. Do you think that people would be so generous at lending others stamps or selling them to a friend to send mail?
I use robots.txt all the time just to hide information that people shouldn't be looking for as far as security goes well Depending on a robots.txt file is moronic.
Some valid reasons to use robots.txt
--For Promotional offers
--if you have script files there would be no reason a search engine should look at
--hiding images
--For test site information on a new design you are showing an external client.
The thing that ammuses me so much about robots is if you set up tracking on your site to track wherever anyone goes you would not believe the amount of 404 errors you will get from robots.
Not too mention the fact that almost every stupid script kiddie who attempts to get into your site not only leaves you his IP But the command he was trying to run and the exact time that this user was attempting to do this.
Then they are shocked when you contact there ISP and find themselves in trouble.
Great point. Most of these Companies are in different states. Which means they can all take different slants on State Laws. To Prove their cases. Just one ISP needs to Win once that happens it will eventually get elevated to the Supreme Court. Where by the Supreme Court will Eventually toss the DMCA usage in this case out on its ass. Or face teh repercussions of having the RIAA monitoring E-mails to see if people are posting FTP information to others.
As Far as SBC goes being smaller then the RIAA. I find that hillarious Pac Bell is a very very powerful force. They exist to this day do to Litigation. They have not lost yet. With the exception of one case where they took their Cellular Unit and had to split it from themselves and they Created AirTouch which is now part of Verizon. Regardless if anyone can win this it will be Pac Bell Especially with the advantage of Being IN California. Where the state itself is very Liberal.
I have to say everytime I hear this argument I find myself just utterly dumbfounded by the stupidity of such thoughts. Whether you hate Microsoft or love one thing that Microsoft knows is teh Cost of Legal Expenses. Now lets say SCO takes Microsoft to court I can gaurentee you win or lose Microsoft would end up paying more then Buying a liscence. What SCO is doing is called Extortion. Plain and simple. Microsoft knows when its better to fight then not fight. Why would Microsoft fight this battle what would be their gain to this.
Nothing They would save a few dollars and possibly cost themselves Billions. Think about it Lets say SCO is right abotu their claims think they will win vs IBM I don't. The only reason IBM is fighing this is because they know their services (largest part of the company) is in Serious trouble if SCO wins this and they can be extorted for years to come from SCO and SCO has to do nothing to make that money off of IBM. Would you fight if your lively hood was at stake? I sure as hell would. However if I had some bum hanging around my house trying to scare off my friends and he makes a deal saying he will leave you alone if you give him $5 well screw it I would pay up.
Now the funny thing I find about the Linuk community is how much you support IBM and hate MS. I never heard about MS developing a tracking system to track and slaughter a race of people. But damn sure I have heard of IBM doing it.
See I think Legislation is in Order. I think the Federal Government must set qualifications for a US Company. Say not that the Comapny must pay taxes to the US which it would have to but. 55% of all people working for that comapny must be american citizens. and its fine if they do not want to do that they can still be based here but instead of letting them profit by outsourcing they Tariff everything. that way you create a balancing act. to Where big businesses in the US will have to compete with businesses outside the US or Leave.
I have to agree. I am not a huge fan of Open Source but I am not an Opponent of it either. I must say that the idea of open source can be a good one but also has its drawbacks. One of the many Drawbacks from a governements perspective is choosing what software to go with. Now I know linux has Massive support from the community however other Open Source software packages they might be interested in do not have as wide support. So if I was to choose an Open Source Product to use on Systems here at my work it woudl require me to train these people in this new software product which will be a rather hefty expense, given that it might be worth it. however what happens when the people maintaining that source suddenly stops and that product no longer supports our needs now I a either hire someone to take that Open Source Product and improve upon it to meet my needs or I have to choose another product Which I will have to once again train my users to use. either one of these options would cost a lot of money. While Going with a Microsoft Product whether you like them or not you know they will continue to improve the software. They do this because of Profit. So we know what their motivation is and can except set prices and minimal trainign times.
Now I do not know if any of you have ever wrote anything yourselves and made it available for free. Whether it be for just your friends or a fully open source product. Having people complain about it. Tell you what needs to be done and push you to get it done. Is rather frustrating and annoying all the same. You are doign this for free and you get no profit and when people constantly press you to spend your free time to improve the product that your doing for them while showing no real gain other then merely the pride and satisfaction of doing a good job, is not always enough to motivate a person to continue.
This scenario is a very valid concern for businesses and governments. For me my personal choice is use software that you know will improve that you know that product will still be sold in 5 years.
I also have to say I think These Open Source Movements for Governments is really too soon. The products available or not robust enough yet and might begin to give peopel a very bad taste in their mouths abotu certain products.Like a lot of people I know Experienced a lot of the first generation Microsoft products and now hate them. and use alternatives Mac/Unix Whatever it may be. But They have never looked back. Considering its not a price issue with them I think they are rather missing out. But because of that initial bad experience was bad its causes problems.
"Make your First Impression Count" Now I ask you do you really think its time to make that impression. I personally Don't think so.
There Was a Company that was sending out free webcams so that users could hold up magazines advertisements to the camera and it woudl navigate the user to the website of that paticular product.
heh I don't think you quite understand because of the way MS OS'es work certain things that were in Sun's JVM caused problems with Windows OS(Ex: the massive Memory leaked that plagued Java Applications on Windows) so they fixed those but while they were at it they threw a bunch of extra crap in there was that right of them. Maybe not but considering MS JVm for a long time worked better then suns did on Windows maybe they had a point. the problems began to really occur when Microsoft stopped supporting their JVM and rightfully so. Its not there freaking product its Sun's. Microsoft has the right to distribute Windows however they want and include or exclude anythign they want to. I fully agree with them on that. If you want it go get it or ask your computer supplier to provide it. and Before someone gives the Old monopoly card think abotu this do most people build there computers or do they buy them. simply they buy them someone tech savy enough to build there own would know where to get the JVM and the computer suppliers can add the JVM if they like to I have to say MS has ever right not to include somethign in there OS that they would potentially get support calls on when in fact its not even their software. I personally don't want a JVM on my machine but I have to have one which I do not like since I consider Java to be a great idea but a horrible implementation.
Well in case you didn't know according to Copywrite laws That would be very illegal. In fact Googles cache feature is very illegal. it takes control fo the users content away from the Author. if I post an article on my website and it gets slashdoted I then change that article in any way for correction or other information then that would then be the valid copy. however googles caching ability takes this away from my control. So why Would/. Do sothing like this and set them selves up for potential lawsuits.
Think before you Speak.
Try Something for me take put lighter fluid on a non flameable surface wait two hours then attempt to light it. If it lights please video tape it and send it to me. Since I can't even get it to light after 20 minutes unless I create a pool of liquid.
Honeslty I have to say this is a bit Pointless WD-40 is a really bad idea to clean your processor with you screw up and get that on a pin good luck is all I have to say about that.
When tryign to clean something off we should go to the expert. Martha Stewart yeah thats right Martha she not only knows insider trading but can tell you how to remove just about any stain or spot. So what is he words of wisdom. Lighter Fluid yes thats right Lighter Fluid. I prefer Ronsol comes of clean fast and also totaly evaporates you just need to wait a few hours to be on the safe side. Before placing it back in your motherboard.
So in essence it even takes pictures. how coudld you go wrong with that. You can even get an MP3 player and a radio adaptor you will soon be able to hook it into your gamecubes to play the games on your tv. And if that isn't enough you can play against other people with a little cord.
As I have read on news.com http://rss.com.com/2100-1001-980514.html ?type=pt&p art=rss&tag=feed&subj=news
They appear to be making a move to charge for use of their Libraries not the Kernal this is in fact their right to do. Those libraries are not part of GNU they belong to them hence anythign they want to charge for those is their right. Of course it will be a very short lived fix someone will rewrite these libraries and offer them free of charge and then they cannot chargefor it. Code cannot be copywrited but compiled objects can be.

You want to stop the internet messeges Which on happens on NT computers you simple stop the messenger service that comes with all NT and XP machines
