Not sure where I read it, but there was an article I read about using good old cheap IDE Raid as a tape replacement. Some guy did it on a large scale for university, and a (relativly low cost). Considering the low cost per GB, and easy scalability, why not?

How long do you have to pay for electricity before tapes are more cost-effective?

When I was in 8th grade I had a horrid science teacher who never read anything that anyone except students he saw as "problem students" wrote. Those who were not on that list turned in nursery rhymes as homework and got A's. Not only was it plagerism, but it was ever off-topic.

I fear that my experience was not unique. I wonder how well I would do if I turned in a chapter of Moby Dick or Les Miserables.... Or maybe a section of Physics and Phylosophy by Heisenberg.

There's other software that can recognize plagarism. Essays could be run through both sets of software.

The article actually says the notebook has a Geforce FX Go5700 which makes it comparable to decent desktop gaming setups.

I use mapquest most of the time but there are of course problems with actually getting to most efficient route.
Recently I was looking up directions from the central coast to davis in california. Almost every single map site listed directions going right through the bay area instead of taking I5. I finally found that expedia listed a more sane route using I5.
The problem w/ map sites is most of them use the same database so if theres a problem, it's likely wrong on all of them.
Also, I dislike that you can't specify an alternate route using certain freeways.

That's not necessarily true. I'm not saying that MS does lose money on h/w but it is common business practice to price certain products under the profit line. These products are called lost leaders and are used for marketing.

For example, on each pair of Levi's sold by Mervyns, they lose about $3 (or so). The point of it is to get people in the store so that they will buy accessories also.
