At least I know what KOffice does by looking at the name. WTF is a "Skype"? Or a "Google"? Words gain meaning as they're used. I think that if KOffice turns out a great product, it'll just become a "known" brand. There's nothing inherently bad about it.
And if you have, say, 100 visitors at the same time? That's 3 seconds just to start the processes, much less actually run anything. It's multiplicative;)
Yeah. I love when my tax dollars go to scraping retards off the road and exceptionally expensive emergency service calls because they didn't wear their seatbelts, magnifying injuries and cost of response, as well as more delays to everyone else on the road as investigations need to be extended.
We either need to either require seatbelts or make emergency services check to make sure you can pay for it before they scrape you off the pavement and take you to a hospital. Which one do you choose? Oh, never mind... you're one of those "magic invisible hand will fix everything!" types.
Well, as long as you didn't spend the day dicking with your playlists, I can't see the problem. Most boss' don't make it a point to just follow random rules, especially if they made them. They just want work done.
References to torture are appropriate. That's what they will do to you when you are shuffled off to a room or thrown into jail without trial or charges as an "enemy combatant". How does that happen? Just say something bad about GWB.
Pop quiz: someone is screaming and running in the middle of an airport, and fighting with officers who try to calm her down. Do you a) let her go on to do whatever she feels like, which could include hurting other people, or b) take her some place to calm down? Sometimes, you can't save people from themselves, no matter how hard you try. That is in no way the police's fault. They were doing what they could to protect EVERYONE. But you fucking pussies out there who think everyone should be 100% safe no matter what they choose are making it pretty much impossible to legitimately protect anyone from anything, so everything is done under the guise of protecting against "terrorism", which is giving the authorities MORE power, and not allowing it to be kept in check. Welcome to your hole. Did you enjoy digging it?
I use Linux as exclusively as possible. Basically, for everything but my work machine.
1) Damn straight I block ads. But not all ads. Just the ones that annoy me. I've even bought products after following ad links, especially from Google ads. I don't mind ads. I hate annoying ones.
2) True. I just don't frequent those sites, so they don't get my business, even if I had wanted to purchase something from them initially. Who's the loser there?
3) Less stuff? I buy what I need. I don't pay $25 for shitty shareware apps that are in no way worth $25, or hundreds of dollars for operating systems that are crippled, or products that treat me like a criminal for buying them. Sorry, I am a person, not a consumer or a income stream. I've got some self respect. I also influence the buying habits of at least 10-20 people, minimum, not to mention company purchases. My opinion is not only my own. It's that of a large number of people, and I think that goes for a lot of Linux users. We are the technological knowledge bases for most people we know.
4) Yeah...
Net result, you block Linux users, you'll lose me as a customer, and a LOT of other people. Is that really what you want?
It's not an opinion. But hey, don't let that stop you from calling random people douche-bags anonymously... I know your balls grow 10x as big when you face no repercussion for your statements;)
And you won't care until an alchemist takes your job. James Randi is the kinda guy who calls 'bullshit' on pseudo-science. Just because he hasn't touched your specific field necessarily (I don't know his whole history) doesn't mean his work is any less important.
Did you see the "qualifications" of the guy writing the product descriptions?
"Aerospace Engineering, UVa (theoretical fluid dynamics and propulsion, statistical thermodynamics, nuclear physics, indeterminate structures). Author of The Definitive Explanation of How the Intelligent Chip Works"
I think he's just an engineer who's having a laugh (and profit) at the expense of morons with too much money and too little sense. Same type of people who buy into astrology and homeopathy.
Post-processing and instant feedback of photos, as well as more robust "film" and larger "rolls" are also benefits of digital. It's one of those 95% products... I can appreciate the difference between digital and analog, but digital fulfills the need for 95% of people, and is only getting closer and closer to analog (or even better, ie infrared detection) with every generation of the technology.
So stop buying pop music. A lot of jazz is still mastered to sound great, and most smaller bands don't fight in the loudness wars. And if you can get ahold of any classic rock that HASN'T been remastered, that's usually great to listen to as well. There's a lot of bad stuff out there, but there's a lot of good stuff too, if you know where to look.
Unfortunately, hurting feelings is about the extent of the powers of the GAO from what I understand. They make reports, and that's about it. They don't hold anyone accountable, they just say that someone should be accountable.
You paid $500 for basic editing software? Got money to burn or something? Oh wait... you're advocating breaking copyright. Nevermind.
The Gimp is for people who want powerful, free software that works on multiple OS's and has a nice, usable interface versus some MDI hack. No it's not a free version of Photoshop. It's a free image editing tool that's very capable at it's task.
"The Gimp isn't a free Photoshop clone! I want a free Photoshop clone that does everything exactly the same way, rather than learning how a different program works, even though it may be a more powerful interface in the end!"
Did I translate that right? I'm a bit rusty on my "never satisfied whiner" though, perhaps someone could help me?
Why? Seriously, why is it worse than Photoshop? Except for things like CMYK output (where the actual features just don't exist in the Gimp), there's no reason that the Gimp can't replace the expensive Photoshop for everyone except the pure professional users. But hey, the second sentence of TFA talks about the point of the book (Did you even read past "Gimp"?):
"However, costing more than many DSLR cameras, for non-professionals it(Photoshop) can be a very hard purchase to justify"
The purely pro market that Photoshop absolutely can't be replaced in isn't a big market. The Gimp is perfect for 95% of people's photo manipulation needs, though, and that's why it's great software. You don't have to pay anything for software that is more powerful than almost any home user will ever be able to fully utilize.
As big as the shuttle is? It's built for negative pressure, not positive pressure. I mean, the orbiter is 56' tall on the runway. Remove some height for the tail and the landing gear, that's still a good 20' deep to submerge the entire thing, which makes the outside pressure somewhere around 1.6 atmospheres. But I'm guessing you meant this as a joke. I just wanted to throw some random facts out to make myself look relevant, even though I'm not;)
a) I don't work with flash. I work with databases.
b) Flash allows you to do things that even AJAX won't let you do. It is beneficial to the web. You know what games most people play? That's right, web based games, things like on popcap games and such. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it's not something that most people don't like. Face it, you're a curmudgeon, flash most definitely has it's place (but not as a replacement for an informational website... flash is for content asides and games, it's not meant for text content), and furthermore, you live in your parent's basement, while we're making baseless personal attacks such as someone's employer's abilities.

Screw you, hippie! Ad-hominem and strawman attacks are a completely legitimate tool in a debate! You're with the terrorists!

Isn't the past tense of reads "read"? It may be just me, but your typo still seems to make grammatical sense.

So do different vodkas. More money != more better, which is the main point of this whole exercise.

Heathen! Where's my bottle of holy water blessed by Steve Jobs...?
IPV6 NAT'ing ;) I mean, why would you want your personal nanites NOT firewalled and routed away from the outside world wherever possible?
