They just keep the 4th estate honest. In theory. But it's sad that there has to be someone to do that, because the entire point of journalism is to keep the governmental branches honest...
If you eat meat, the "real world" most certainly DOES involve things like that. They're just hidden from you. And you're happy with that.
The grandparent post was mostly correct... the real world is brutal. We're just sheltered from a lot of it, and we compartmentalize a lot of it away from ourselves in modern Western society. I personally think that this is a huge mistake because it prevents us from being able to put things into proper perspective, and causes things like children not getting perfect grades to have panic attacks. How did we ever get to this point?
The thing is, your body attenuates the signal to any phone, doesn't matter which one. It's just how things work. The problem with the Apple phone is that it's antenna can be contacted by a bare hand, which MASSIVELY increases the interference as compared to simply just having a body part in the general way of the signal like most internal antenna phones.
The problem is that Apple is the only company stupid enough to make the antenna able to be shorted out when you hold it, bridging the antenna. All other phones have completely enclosed antennas that do experience attenuation depending on how you hold them, but nothing to the degree of what Apple's does.
Just the fact that it has been propelled, at all, is the achievement. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. Kinda like the satellite... didn't really matter that it just beeped. The achievement was that it was up there.
If a single IP is trying a "bunch" of bad passwords, I'd think they'd be a candidate to not let do that. Especially if they're doing it more rapidly than a person could. Depending on the system and users you could set the limits.
If the game doesn't sell well enough, they just stop developing on it, no new episodes. Gives people who like the game a powerful motive for purchasing it.
No, the world needs humiliation. There are a LOT of people that could use a lot more humility (I'm looking at you, asshole in the black Audi). What it doesn't need is humiliation for simply existing. It needs consequences tied to action, and as long as that doesn't exist from birth until at least early teen years, some people will remain sociopathic.
Just because they solve the problem doesn't mean that it's a good solution. It's a sign of poor problem-solving skills when you have to resort to subterfuge in your daily life.
Unfortunately, times are different now. You'd have been expelled and had a criminal record for assault if you did that to a bully now. Doesn't matter who started it, since you finished it, you were obviously in the wrong. Zero tolerance and all that bullshit.
So block the app. It's not that hard. My friends all play those inane games, and I never see a peep of them. Only when a new one comes along do I see it, and that's very, very rare. 10 minutes of work too much for you to keep in touch with your family?
Half of the problem there is that the school probably reassigned her to computers because she was the most skilled in them of all the teachers. No, I'm not kidding.
And then she has to keep her authority in class. How does she do what with some smart-ass kid telling her she's wrong? So of course her gut instinct is to try to shut you down. And because she can't be seen as weak and doesn't have the information to actually know the answer, she simply uses her authority to "overrule" you.
The other half was that she wasn't a good teacher, because if she was, she would have told you that "we'll discuss that after class", and then would have listened to you for a few minutes after class and used the opportunity to learn.
The actual advantage is not taking a lot of disk space for 32bit compatibility libraries, as well as performance being lower in 32bit apps as compared to 64bit. Your statement reeks of "640K should be enough for anybody!"
I have a very nice flatbed scanner that does 1200DPI. It isn't supported by Windows after XP, but it works fine in every single version of Linux I have tried it with.
Why would I want to replace perfectly working hardware? Do you value your money so little? Or do you just hate the thought of not being a "consumer", not buying the latest and greatest when it comes out?
There is no reason, except for the proprietary locked-down model of Windows, for that hardware to not keep working.

As soon as everyone has great service everywhere they go, I'll agree with you. Until that point, Apple is stupid.

We should just make lobbying punishable by the death penalty.

What kind of transmission range are you envisioning 60GHz to have? Because from my understanding, you'd be lucky to get a couple feet at best.
Why encode? The link is fast enough to transmit HD video unencoded.
Even if they're gay which would give you an excuse for recognizing another man's penis, that's disturbing in many ways.
Peddle is when you're selling something. A pedal is the thingy you use with your foot. Just FYI.
You can often leave an ID with the clerk at the counter and they'll turn it on for you. At least they will around here.
You can get the iPhone on T-Mobile, brand new, for only $500? And replace the battery?

Aikido is the same as controlling your punch, you control their fall. Judo seems more along the lines of what you describe as disliking about Akido.

Dunno. My Nexus One can work on various carriers, cost right around $500, holds a charge and gets pretty good reception...
That was my point. I was simply stating things from her point of view.
We don't hire smart people to be teachers, by and large. We hire people who can deal with kids, and then train them on what to teach.
