You want to get nit-picky? The real answer is: do they fall wihin two ranges of voltages (lets say 1-2mv or 4-5 mv.) There is no on/off. Simply, how much electricity is flowing through the circuit. At the very lowest levels almost all digital computers are analog.
Nope, the first programmer was Ada Lovelace (and if you debate me about Babbage being the first, look up the terms 'operation' and 'algorithm'). Being the daughter of Lord Byron makes her English though it should be noted that both she, Zuse, Turing, and everyone up till around the time of Fortran porgrammed in langauges different than English (mainly mathematics).
The presence of hydrogen peroxide makes the theories that life exits there doubtful. There is a reason that hydrogen is used as an antispetic: it kills almost any type of baterial infection imaginable.
The question is not can it manage to survive there but can it form there. It doesn't matter if life can evolve to survive in even the most extreme conditions if the conditions are not right to allow life to form there in the first place. Life may be able to suvive in an ocean of acid but I highly doubt it formed there (unless you mean an ocean of amino acid.)
"That include the freedom to trade across the borders, the freedom to hire across the borders, the freedom to ELECT across the borders, the freedom to immigrate across the borders."
ELECT across the border? The United States is divided into districts and only ppl within those districts can vote for local district leaders (president if you consider the united states to be one district, called state governers if at the state level, mayors at the local level) becuase those leaders are meant to represent the people in that district that elected them. Since it is impossible to have everyone vote on every issue, ppl within districts vote for a leader that will make those decisions for them in their best interests. That is why these leaders are called representitives, they represent the people who voted for them. Elections are held for one reason: to choose the canidate that the district thinks will best represent them. The reassons we decide these elctions by voting is becuase that seems the best way to choose those leaders. Having people that live outside a district vote for a representive of that district kind of defeats the purposes of voting, don't you think? Representives represent the district that elected them, no one else.
On a greater note, I doubt world government will ever work. Too many competeing ideologies and ideas... It's a wonder that any country stays together as it is.
I can stil remember burning through twenty bucks in quaters back in the mid 90's at a bowling alley playing Samarui Showdown (4 I think). MK and SF2 were great for the first few weeks they were out but then everyone memorized all the special moves and they both became boring. Scorpion yelling come here every two minutes and the like... But no onw knew samurai showdown well enought o use any special moves so it rocked.
Crystalis, was one of the better rpg's of its time
Forget 'of its time', Crystalis was one of the greatest RPG's ever. At the very least, it is without question the greatest RPG for the orginal NES. I still go back and paly it every couple of eyars. Haven't touched Final Fantasy or the Legend of Zelda since 1995.
It may have not been too popular not becuase it wasn't a great game but becuase it was so damn hard to find a copy of it anywhere. I eventually found it in a used bin about 2 years after I first heard about it from a friend. It is a must for any RPG player. Saying you have never played Crystalis is like saying you never played the orginal Final Fantasy - instant sign of noob. It still has one of the greatest stories I ahve ever seen in an RPG. When you realize that what it was competeing against was The Legend of Zelda (a game with next to no story) just amkes it all that more impressive an accomplishment. Simply put: it rocked.
I can still hum the tower music and whistle the cave theme...
That was one of Atari's mistakes. The term 'Cartridge Glut' ring a bell? People begamn producing games faster than sewing machines with the only interest being to create carts to make money and screw leaps forward, no one could tell what games were good cause most of them sucked, and bam - no one could make money. The market was flooded with games and no one company could make enough money to make it. Imagic fell, Atari collapsed, Appollo imploded. By pushing the envelope and constantly inventing, companies distinguish themselves, stay ahead of the pack, and make money.
He probably means loyalty. For example, say Infogrames was late on one of its big releases. Any market hype it had wouldn't incidently disappear. With blizzard the hype stays and the customers stay interested (though they lost quite a bit of that reputation when it took them 2 years to release a patch and that patch didn't really meet everyones expectations.)
The problem with squaresoft is that lately it looks like you'll end up with a 10 minute cutscreen every two minutes. Theirs a point where you have to distinguish between a game with movies in between and a movie with a game in between. Getting back to the orginal idea, Blizzard does alright becuase they worry about the story and gameplay over the graphics, just a little too much though. Squaresoft is on the opposite side, they lean towards the movies just a little too much. But both are close to the sweet spot called 'balance'.
Or one of the Sims games/expansions. I have been waiting since its release for it to drop below $30. Nope, just when it hits 30 they come out with the delux edition and back up to $50 it goes. Everything else I wait till it drops. I think the last time I payed full price for a pc game was for Diablo 2 (a week after it came out.) With everything else its better to wait. I payed full price for Devil May Cry 2 as well and that's why I don't pay the full price when thee game comes out.
This story has got Dukenukem Forever written all over it. One can learn all the things listed in the article just by reviewing its developemental history. Throw in an analysis of Daikatana ad you've mastered the issue.
I pay attention to what's happening outside of the country. I would have liked to have read about the law back a few months ago. So stop blaming americans in general and start blaming the mods.
Btw, the reason we don't get involved in africa is becuase it is not in our national interests. We are not the world's policemen and we can't aford to act like we are. It's one of the things we learned in Vietnam. We can't fix all the worlds problems. A lot of the world is going to have to take care of itself. And if you feel so terrible about it, why doesn't your country send troops their? Its easy to demand Americans go out and die for world peace or whatever when you aren't american.
Chances are the screen still has ghosting whenever you try to play games. Same porblem with the flat-screens. You get ghosting and the things looks like crap at least 5% of the time. CRT's are still the best way to go for gaming and for 3 grand you can build yourslef 2 super kickass desktop computers.

I bought the Sunflowers' 1503 AD game practically as soon as it came out, since my wife and I loved to play the old 1602AD together via LAN. 1503AD's expanded multiplayer feature was touted all over the internet(see here, here, and here), yet when I bought the game for the costly $52 I was very unpleasently suprised that teh agme had none. Despite the continuous claims that the company is working on the MP patch, we're now 7 months away from the initial release, the game sells now for a measly $15, and I am yet to play a single second of it, as I have no interest in the single player experinece. My attempts at communication with the company led to nothing but dead-ends and unproved mistreatment. Unfortunately, this is not a unique occurance in today's entertainment software industry, where atrocious lack of of support is growing rampant and is increasingly coupled with ridiculous EULA's. Therefore I decided to finally exercise my end-user rights and pursue a class-action lawsuit agianst the company. Hereby I am asking you, felllow Slashdotters, for help in seeking answers to the following questions as well as assistance in assembling signitures for the class-action lawsuit... 1)I need to expose the iniquity so that the software consulers become aware of this atrocious lack of support that is running rampant among the today's entetainment software producers (obviously having this posted on Slashdot will be exposure in itslef to be reckoned with). 2)I would greatly appreciate your advice on how to locate a reputable and internationally active law firm that could handle this case. 3)I would like to know what is the required number of the participants for the class-action lawsuit to be instantiated. 4)Do you think that this course of action will yield any results? 5)If you have this game and feel the same like I do, I would like to urge you to please join the class-action lawsuit as only together can we fight the corporate giants. Also, if you feel that you can and are willing to help out in any other shape or form(i.e. website maintance etc.), please do not hesitate to contact me and/or visit the website stated below. 6)I believe that the class-action lawsuit, if sucessful, will let the entertainment software companies know that we, as investors in their product(s) are not to be trifled with. As such this can be used to leverage further atttempts at forcing the other entertainment software companies support their product(s) as they ought to, as well as hopefully abolishing the obfuscated EULA's taht relinquish them of any responsibility towards consumers. 1503AD is by no means and exception, but rather it is part of an unfortunate growing trend among the entertainment software companies! I am urging you to please help out with this issue as this could be the greatest thing that happened to the end-user rights in a long time! Personally, my reponse would be: sucks to be you. We've all been burned by software companies who release unfinished porducts that never get completed. You should consider yourself lucky the game even works. I bought a copy of divine divinity about three months after it was out and it was till full of game crashing bugs (in fact it was impossible to beat becuase of them.) I'll think twice about ever buying a product from that company again. What probably happened with yours was they released to judge response on whether the game was going to be a worthwile investment before they dropped the cash in further developement. Maybe it never made it through bata, didn't make enough money to warrant compeletion, unexpected bug, etc. Either that or the MP was never completed due to lack of funds (co. going out of business, advertisers pulling features out of their asses, etc.) As for EULA's, I don't know anyone who actually reads them anymore anyway. Comapnies taht make bad products don't make money for long. That is the way things go. Cheaper to just accept the loss then to try to wage a lenghty court battle.
In addition (from the same site listed in my last post):
The ethanol production process starts by grinding up the feedstock so it is more easily and quickly processed in the following steps. Once ground up, the sugar is either dissolved out of the material or the starch or cellulose is converted into sugar. The sugar is then fed to microbes that use it for food, producing ethanol and carbon dioxide in the process. A final step purifies the ethanol to the desired concentration.
Plus when you read the article you linked it speaks of burning ethanol as fuel, not using ethanol to create hydrogen and then using the hyrdogen in say a fuel cell. Different chemistry, different equations. (Yes I know about the laws of thermodynamics - but we're talking about the effeciency of a chemical process not its net energy - you burn say oil and a energy equivalent of wood and you'll get more useful energy from the oil becuase it is a far more effecient reaction [less byproducts].)
Ethanol is an alcohol-based alternative fuel produced by fermenting and distilling starch crops that have been converted into simple sugars. Feedstocks for this fuel include corn, barley, and wheat. Ethanol can also be produced from "cellulosic biomass" such as trees and grasses and is called bioethanol.
Yes it takes a lot of energy to make - a lot of solar energy and water in a method commonly known as 'growing'.
