This is outstanding. I have been afraid (very afraid) support for certain OSs might disappear. Oh yeah, I was just talking to a friend of mine at Sun this morning about Sun and Star Office......his lips were sealed. Maybe now I know why.
Anyone who's been to Taiwan, Korea or China knows that every casemaker there is manufacturing translucent cases, mice, keyboards, modems, usb hubs, digital cameras, headphones, speakers, scanners.......you name it. Is Apple going to try to sue them in those countries and all the other countries they are shipped to? If so, someone better remind Jobs what happened the last time Apple screwed around in the courts Asia.......Zip.

Well, what is there to SAY about Win32-OS/2? Zilch. About Warpstock etc I agree, however, I could care less about running Unix/Linux/Windows apps on OS/2. I'd prefer (and DO) to run native Warp programs. BTW, not long ago, Jerry Pournelle made the statement that Warp advocates made it so unpleasant for people to write about Warp that eventually no one did. We see the same thing now happening with Linux. Nothing is stopping Warp users from starting up their own site a la Slashdot, BeNews or BeosCentral, is there? Know anyone who would be willing to host and run a site like that (please don't even mention Tim Martin and Warpcity!)?
Uhhh. I have rarely seen anything "anit-OS/2" on Slashdot. Maybe because so few people care or use it anymore. I, for one, DO use it and plan to be at Warpstock Europa '99........and I also use Be.
I don't think it's because the Windows gui is so user-friendly (OS/2's and BeOS' both whip it's ass!) It's simply because the people making the decisions have no imagination or design sense whatsoever. That's why I use Windowmaker on Linux and CDE on Solaris.......although I'm starting to look seriously at XFce (http://www.xfce.org) for Linux.
Shocking.....simply shocking. (After all the crap that's come to light during the DOJ trial, I'm surprised MS hasn't been found to have hired Libyian hit teams to eliminate it's rivals.)
Funny. When it was announced (mistakenly) that the iToaster was going to run a "hybrid Linux/Beos" operating system, Slashdoters flew into a rage attacking the very concept. "Will they release the code?" etc, etc. Now, Amiga does a switch to Linux (in the process screwing their partners) and everyone is ready to jump in bed with'em and party all night. Could it be that some people feel threatened by Be (which is a living, growing product on the market) and not by Amiga vaporware?

And how will all of this be affected by the GPL? Will the new Gnu/Linux/Amiga OS be available for download along with source-code? How is Amiga planning to make money? By providing service ala Redhat and selling the OS at $60 bucks a pop (OS 3.5 which is scheduled to be released 3Q is slated to cost $59.95)? This looks like another twist in Amiga's downward spiral brought about NOT by the OS but the idiots running the circus. And Mozilla? Well, I'm still waiting....
I don't know.....just took a look at some of the Amiga newsgroups and they are NOT a bunch of happy campers. Terms like "betrayal" are being bandied about.
Will be at : http://www.sun.com/staroffice
Hmmmmm, next time you hear someone talking about "getting a little head", be worried, very worried. Especially if you wear a size 7 hat.

Chuck likes fried penguin.
Maybe because it came out before the Linux version?? Anyway, Opera for Be kicks ass!

Why hasn't this been given a "5" by the "moderators"? This is the most iformative and important statement on this subject in the whole thread.

And in a few months, we'll get another press release from Amiga this time annoucing a switch to the VIA/Cyrix cpu.
Don't live near a reactor or spend much time in an ICU, do you? By the way, fuck YOU very much, as we Americans say.
In case of MS vs IBM, MS left with NT and IBM with Warp. Here, QNX is left with the OS and Amiga doesn't have dick.

After QNX spends all the time and money, Amiga walks....If this is an example of how Amiga does things it's no wonder it's dying off. Good riddance.
Just hope the British Special Air Service doesn't take offence!
