    The truth is that Debian unstable is still more stable than most other distros.

    I love Debian, I'm using Unstable right now, but I would be warry to call it "more stable that most other distros". I recall the lilo package being screwed up and preventing me from booting (of course a boot disk fixed the problem). There have been a few other problems, but nothing too terrible, although a less experienced person might find it a bit daunting.

    Whenever Unstable bites me I always promise myself I will stick with Testing, but as that gets too old for my tastes I always return. I'm not sure what that says about me, but for my money Debian is the best; I just wish they'd make their website a little more pleasing

    You sir have made me violently ill with such a comment. The rock deserves a role commensurate to his acting skill and mental prowess. Yes, scrubbing my toilet for the rest of his life seems appropriate to me.

    C++ has lousy run-time type information. Perl lets you interrogate a class's structure and capabilities at run-time: class name, hierarchical relationships, and method compatibility. (I'm mostly quoting from Conway's book here.)

    You're referring to what java calls Introspection/Reflection and I have heard rumors this is in the works for C++ as well.

    The absolute best part about rental cars is treating them as..., well... someone else's car :)

    If I'm being tracked I may have to be accountable for slaloming between road cones, speeding, and generally treating a large object moving at break-neck speeds as a go-kart. We can't have that.

    The version I have been using claims it is the default (or its man page does). Perhaps you are right, I'm not familiar with previous versions.

    UsePrivilegeSeparation Specifies whether sshd separates privileges by creating an unprivileged child process to deal with incoming network traffic. After successful authentication, another process will be created that has the privilege of the authenticated user. The goal of privilege separation is to prevent privilege escalation by con taining any corruption within the unprivileged processes. The default is ``yes''.

    Since it defaults to yes (on Debian at least) I don't think we have too much to fear.

    e.g. no ';' before the 4. It's not nearly as exciting as I thought it would be, but stellarly obfuscated none the less.

    I'll stick with google, those 3 extra characters are too much for me. Seriously though, alltheweb seems pretty good, I tried their mp3 search and it was ok, not really comparable to the myriad p2p clients, but still a nice feature.

    It does pose a very interesting question. If you could become quite wealthy due to sleezy and underhanded action(s) which would ultimately damage your reputation and that of the Internet, would you? Perhaps this would make a good poll question.

    Jeese, perhaps because you are voicing your opinion on a pro-linux site. It truly seems inane to me to expect anything other than a pro-linux response here.

    Yes this site is also about technology, innovations, and Cowboys, but expect zealots (and many regular users) to be a little tender when inadequacies in their OS of choice are uncovered.

    This is where a good hashing algorithm would be great, e.g. md5 hashes to determine if different users have the same item. This seems mandatory, they'd be silly not to have something like this in place

    I've had good luck guessing passwords using the method of adding a number to the user's name: e.g. someGuy's password is probably someguy[0-9]+[0-9]*

    Quit compaining about the best thing that could realistically happen to computing right now.

    This is hardly the best thing that could happen. As soon as cloning is perfected I plan to encourage my friends to grow their own Linus clones and force them to work full time on our OS of choice.

    This is much better than AOL polluting another thing I love with ads.
