rmdyer,
thats a pretty good idea actually. Or they could have an extention lead of somesort with the processor on the end so it could be moved away from the same motherboard or something.
I think you should patient it now m8;)
Right on! Im sat here reading these post's on slashdot, and I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Now as for DRM being in every computer NO.. NO.. NO!!
Doesnt work like that.
What it means is that you will be able to run a non DRM operating system, but you may not be able to run some DRM software, openoffice will never ever be DRM encumbered. If office is then fine, but will you really miss it?
Also lets look at DVD'S. Region protection and DeCss etc, I could go into almost anystore today and buy a DVD player and un-region lock it in a matter of seconds. Most players come default with overrides.
Thirdly, remember last year when they were going to put DRM in hard drives and a big portion of the slashdot crowd were going to boycott IBM and the other manufacturers who were going to do this dastardly deed? Well, it hasn't happened yet, nor likely will it. See, there is more to the world than the us, china and japan and korea and all the other counteries which build harddrives are not going to go along with this because it's just as profitable not to!
Think lik-sang! Yeah ok.. so they had a bit of trouble, but how popular were they? Because (in some ways) went against the grain of what the electronics companies (sony etc) wanted and provided what people want.
DRM will not take a stranglehold, just like they closed napster, kazaa and overnet appeared. When and if they go down? Another will pop up.
Trust me folks, there isnt anything to worry about.
I'm sorry but translating it into norsk for only a fraction of 4.5 million people is simply not worth it. For MSWORD instance, A whole new spellcheck and thesarus would need to be created. Not only that but when it comes to punctuation and correction of language such as
Could Not or Couldn't
I just reckon it would take a LOT of work, what you do guys think?
Not just a simple search and replace.
Yes, you may find bestcrypt very good for this job.
It's available at www.jetico.com and you can make a file that it will load that will make a "virtual drive" *and* it is available for linux and windows. They also have server options too.
One of the things I found which was handy is that you can have your regular password on the encryption file and then a "secret password" too.
This is handy lets say for some reason you got ordered at gun point to reveal the password. Great, reveal it. Give them the original password and then can see all the data put in that bit. But you got the secret password and it can have lots of other data in it...:).
Infact the goodthing is you cannot tell if there is a secret container held in the file.
Encryption such as blowfish, twofish, gost and more equal some very good encryption levels. Also, the encryption code is "open" so you can do your own security audit if you need:)
Hope that helps, I don't work for them. But I use their products, Check it out.
I live in the UK where cellphones are very big, it's pretty much reached mass penetration now. Everyage group has mobile phones, even my grandmother has!
In the UK a couple of years back pre-pay phones took off big style and there was a very big price war with handsets going for as little as $45 with no contract.
Now.. the companies are finding it very difficult due to the amount of phones that have been sold people are not as keen to upgrade them as they would like. Except for the geek/uber stylish crowd everyone is pretty happy with their handsets.
Now, because the lack of handsets being sold the mobile phone companies are in trouble due to:
Paying ££££ billions to the uk goverment so they can have the spectrum for 3g phones.
Vast market penetration of mobile phones already and a majority are not willing to upgrade
Lot of people on pre-pay and using phones for "emergency use only", operators find it hard to break even.
So...... all the networks are betting their bottom line on things like ring tones, downloadable screensavers (!!), logo graphics and picture messaging.
Already ringtones are the such like have boosted profits in the shorterm, but I think picture messaging will (hopefully) be the saviour... or job cuts abound:)
I wouldn't worry about getting the games for the sony p800.. The phone has not been released yet. It was supposed to be released sometime soon but the latest rumours point to March 2002.
Ah well...:)
I actually had the same problem, apparently on an the m$ kb article it stated because you installed word on a non-admin account i.e. non-global, every other account that is set up needs to have the correct registry enteries installed as the user-account doesnt have access to the admininstrator permissions.
There is a link to a microsoft kb article which may help HERE
Acutually they don't at all.. They don't even reccomend you download it *unless* you have an app that specifically requires it.
It actually reads: "The.NET Framework is a new feature of Windows. Applications built using the.NET Framework are more reliable and secure. You need to install the.NET Framework only if you have software that requires it."
Although it does come up in the suggested downloads section, it's quite clear it isn't recommending you download it.
I do agree tho, most users would just download it because thats what people who are not in the know would do.:)
