First, the lion's share of unix kernels are monolithic, so I find it hard to believe that monolithic unix kernel's don't fit in with the unix philosophy.
Second, linux is monolithic. modules be damned, linux fits the textbook description of a monolithic kernel, that is, it's one single process that controls the whole system. It's not like HURD where everything is it's own process.
Yeah, this won't stop spam, it'll just make it easier to trace spam (once everybody has adopted it) because it will then prevent spammers from spoofing; so we'll be able to know who the spammers are and then block them more easily.
But there is NEVER a reason to shut down a Windows XP computer (if you're not installing anything or changing settings). My computer has been on for 92 days and is still as stable and fast as it was on day 1 (super fast and 100% stable).
Tell me, how is it 100% stable if you have to restart it to install things or change settings?
Actually, I have seen data that says that the "Stay in school" programs are completly irrational. Supposedly, a HS dropout that goes to work will be making much more $$ immediately and in the future (because of experience and seniority) than a HS graduate.
I agree with that completely. I'm a university dropout, and I work at a gas station. The Lead Hand at my gas station (basically, she's one step down from being the boss) is a Highschool dropout. The only reason she's ahead of me, is because she has a few years headstart on me (she was busy working my current job while I was busy sleeping through classes).
If I wait long enough, eventually she'll be promoted away to be manager at some other gas station, and then I'll become Lead Hand, and then I'll get to be manager at some other gas station. We're talking over the next five or ten years here, assuming I don't go back to school in september, which I am planning on doing.
If I felt like it, I could probably work my way right up the corporate ladder and work in upper management for the rest of my life, but that's not really where I see myself in 10 years. The only thing standing in my way is that I'm not actually making enough money to live on, and my mom is generously providing me food and shelter until I can get an education and a real job...
I agree, alarm clocks are terrible -- I just love overshooting the minute by one and then having to press the minute button 59 more times to get it right. That's what I like about my wristwatch, it has an "up" AND a "down" button for setting the time/alarms, etc. If only my wristwatch was loud enough to wake me up in the mornings:(
The only format that loads completely before it is allowed to play, the Full Screen Superstitial is guaranteed to play perfectly for every consumer, every time.
What if I'm surfing in links? Or if I don't have their plugin in firebird? Yeah, it'll magically play, ok...;)
Uhhhh, no...

Wow, it's like DRM for plants!
Does it come with a EULA saying you're only allowed to plant the seeds that you payed for, and you can't give them to your friends?
Virus experts suggested MyDoom's author was a fan of the Linux open source community...
I think the worm's name suggests that it was made by SCO.
Darl: "This worm will mean my doom... what can we call it?"
SCO were a few quarters away from running out of cash
:)
Wow, they only had 75 cents in the bank? Terrible

Ah, and then she'd Knight me... awesome!
Share and enjoy!
Are you Sirius?
My goal in life is to become the very first combination Knight/Saint/MCSE!
Don't forget Magnatune.
Stability and having to re-boot to install *certain* software packages have nothing to do with each other.
100% stability means that the system never goes down, it is up all the time. Is the system still up during a reboot? No?! Then it's not 100% stable.

I am not a NASA Engineer?
No, he was just trying to let everybody know that he's inane, and a bad speller to boot.
Bah, no real worries here, Microsoft is already dead and they just don't know it.
If being dead means having your revenues at a record high, then kill me now!
You missed it.
I'm still waiting for the "No Homers" club... ;)
I especially like the "join orkut" page... I was expecting it to say "haha, loser! go away!"

I hate to be a nitpicker but I believe the exact quote is "free software is as communist as '... of the people, by the people, and for the people'".

The shortest sentence in the English language is "I am", the longest sentence is "I do" ;)
I, for one, welcome our new Mousey overlords!
(somebody had to say it)

One day you just might get to see one of these.
What are you talking about? I watch porn every day!
Why? My CPU only runs 60 degrees :)
