Heres the slashdot article about it.

Technically we should be able to display the first frame of a flash animation.
I did some work on the flashblock extension a while ago (bug fixes really, but took a good long look inside the code) and it does actually still flash the initial frame of the animation for a brief period.
Most of the time this first frame is blank so people don't notice, but sometimes its noticable.
Now, if there was a way to capture that image we would be able to hold it slightly dimmed with the flashblocker in place.
    hmmmmm....

Obviously Microsoft aren't infringing upon this patent.

I mean, if they were, we wouldn't have pirated copies of XP roaming around would we?

And where do they stand on volume licensing, MS clearly aren't supplying a unique key with each piece of software.
Even the home keys aren't unique, they are supplying a key which is valid based upon a formula and if I find a key which matches the formula then I will also be granted access.

Now, there is a problem however with upgrades.

some people will be upgrading from Hoary Hedgehog to Edgy Eft.

The problem I have is when your installation goes wrong and you end up with a Hoary Eft (old youthful newt).

Asking a Mac user which is the best operating system will result in one answer, asking a linux user to discuss the various distros is another.

Audiophiles will deride a newbie for asking silly questions, gamers will take the piss out of n00bs for aiming wrong or asking about the best weapons, hell even office staff will give you a 10 minute diorama about their red stapler, but if you ask them what the differences are they will fly off at the handle.

Nobody knows about all the distros or databases and theres not really a one size fits all solution so people get embedded in their current system.
Sounds like he just found people on their off days, but I agree with the general article contents - it extends to all walks of life and multiple subjects.

And I've not even touched on vi vs emacs ;)

What if the problem wasn't just the fuel burning we use to heat the building, but the size and location of the building itself that was the problem?
Most of us have stood between 2 manmade skyscrapers and been blown off our feet, that wind pattern has to directly affect the weather patterns in another part of the world. Theres no need to pore over detailed chemical tables or discuss possible scenarios, we each affect the climate simply by being here.
