  4. Doing stupid repairs on Mandated Regulation/Certification for Computer Repair? · · Score: 1

Well, I'm against this certification crap.
I need my laptop keyboard changed. So I go to the store I bought it from and tell them to change it, I've seen it done before, a simple snap-off snap-on procedure that takes like...1 minute? I could do it in my sleep.

Anyway, so the store tells me "leave the laptop and come back in a week". I go "WTF?!" and ask them why...and what's the answer?
"Well, we havent got a certified laptop techincian so we need to ship your laptop to another city to get one".

Seriously, that's just bullshit. I could do the damned procedure in my sleep if they'd let me. But they wont sell me any parts, and if I want it earlier than a week, then I have to pay extra. No way I'm paying 30$ to have my keyboard changed just because some guy with a "certification" has to do it.

FYI, I'll tell you that if you DONT have a proper video card it is living hell to get a decent framerate. My video card wont run xv, I dont know if it is supposed to support xv or not, and I can sure as hell not figure out how to configure it in any case. Tried running xvinfo and all thingies and they turn out negative.

So I have a ~1½ line command to run if I want to watch video in linux. And I have to use svga, which puts the video on my F12 terminal... Ack.

  9. Re:Unit cost on Still More RIAA News · · Score: 1
Instead of trying to break the RIAA, maybe we should just ignore them. Let the little kids have their Britney Spears and NSync, let the real artist create their music in an atmosphere which supports creativity, and use the internet for distribution.

I'm alright with letting kids have their Britney and NSync, hey I've even been known to sing along to one or two of their songs once in a while!
But fact of the matter is, no matter how much we try...they will never let us be alone. They'll count us off as "pirates" because we listen to independent music, they'll keep trying to kill all internet radio, they'll try to illegalize playing cds in your computer....

If my problems with the RIAA was that they distributed bad music, I could just flip the switch and turn off the radio.
    Though it's not.

If one country can do it, why can't all?

After a while we'll have so many laws that regulate what you can and cant have that freedom will become a thing of the past and just surfing the internet could make you end up in jail...

  12. Re:Stop calling that a crime on More On Airplanes And Internet · · Score: 1

What say you use the internet to hack street lights so cars crash or hack the airport so planes crash (assuming these are connected to the internet. if not, insert computer at home connected to both internet and modem in between). Yes..just dont hack the wrong airplane so you accidentially crash your own plane ~_^

Now, that would really be a candidate for "most stupid death".
The person in question hacked his own airplane and made it crash, coincidentially he used Windows ME on his laptop, the OS known for most crashes ever.
