Disguised as an update to Quicktime and iTunes??
I dont know but it seems pretty clear to me when reading the description in Software Update thats its Apple's WEB BROWSER and its pretty damn easy to uncheck that little box and tell it not to download it.
Apple hasnt been installing it on anyones machine.. YOU have to tell it to.. Perhaps its another case of stupid user error..
I wonder just how many of us ran out and got IIe/c/+ etc just to play this newfangled Ultima game??
I know when I first saw IV thats what did it for me..
A friend brought the box into summer school one year to play in the labs.
I went right home and pretty much forced my parents to buy me my first Laser 128 just to play it.
Ultima V is still one of the best computer rpg's ever written.. Nothing thats come out since has been able to touch it as far as fun goes.. This was a game that sucked me in for like 3 years straight until I got my first PC and could play Ultima 6 (I spent a good year or so after buying Ultima V sending bad 5.25 floppies back to Origin until I finally got a copy that wasnt corrupted!)
Man they even sent you a little certificate signed by Richard Garriot congratulating you for beating the game if you mailed the addresses that showed up at the end of the games.. I think I still have my Ultima 3-6 ones..:D
Actually that fix you mention Apple releasing, is only ONE of the problems for iTunes under Vista and doesnt prevent the app's GUI from blacking out (literally turning black) and becoming unresponsive and having to be shut down through Task Manager hehehe..
Seems it likes to do it whenever it feels like, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes itll stay open all day..
I had to go back to WinAmp for now..:(
Fuck all this.. Let Apple sue whoever.. Cause in the end Ween will show up and sue them since there debut album 'The Pod" came out in 1991...
And yeah sorry Apple but for the most part, everyone I know thinks a POD is a crappy amp simulator made by Line 6..
Hell I even own two of em..
Did you actually play any of the newest Zelda or SMB games??
How about Metroid Prime or Metroid Prime 2?
Are you even old enough to have owned the original Zelda's, Super Marios, etc (just curious)??
Sorry but unlike the endless flood of crap with over the top graphics and absolutely no game play the last few years, Zelda The Minish Cap and the New Super Mario Bros fuckin rule..
Seeing as how SMB was sold out and it took me a week to get it says something about what gamers want no?
And how many apps are installed on your pc?
Mine at work lags like hell waiting to open it.
Sure the Start Menu opens up right away but its a couple seconds waiting for the All Programs menu to pop up.. But then again mine is three columns wide, filled from top to bottom, and at the resolution my two 20" monitors are set at, thats alot of damn shortcuts there..
Ever actually installed the Mac OS?? I remember using OS 9 I could start the install, go smoke a cigarette, come back and it was finshed and ready to go. Mac OS X just takes a few minutes longer, unless you leave all the crap like the hundreds of MB of printer drivers and oriental fonts Apple wants to install by default..
In fact dare I say that last time I rebuilt my G4, it took all of about 10 minutes as well..
Well I dont expect it to sound anywhere near the monitors in our studio or my home stereo system but I did notice I dont have to turn my new up as much as my old 1G to hear it..
My old 10GB was always cranked to get some nice sound that didnt get drowned out by the outside..
The new black 30GB i just got works at about half the level the other one did..
Other than that couldnt really tell if one sounds better.. Hell theyre still aac/mp3s being played through some tiny ass headphones.. Dont expect some $1000 Bose system in your ear and youll be just fine..
Wow youve obviously never worked in a real IT department before have you??
Wanna come by and see whats going on at the University I work at?
We can place bets even!!
Linux marching towards critical desktop mass??
Gimme a break.. 99% of home users cant even figure out how to log off or shut down Windows XP.
I seriously doubt those same users are running out to begin compiling their own systems..
Same here.. Mines at about 80-90% when Im using the earbuds.. Of course Ive spent like 10 years playing guitar with a Marshall half stack so Im a bit deaf on my own hehe..
Um buddy hate to tell this but..
EVERY company/business/corporation is about one thing.
MAKING MONEY.
And Apple just happens to do a damn good job at it.
Its their player, their rules, they can do whatever the hell they want.
You didnt have to fall for the PR campaign and buy one now did you?
Im a Logic Platinum user myself.
Finally decided to try out the Garageband I paid $50 for a month ago just this weekend..
Damn is it sweet.
Plugged my Gibson SG direct into my MOTU 828MKIIs preamps, used the Garageband Amp Simulator and got the gnarliest dirty tone, almost like my favorite amps, the Oranges and Green Matamps..
Just started the click at 85bpm and jammed out some super heavy stoner sabbath riffing for 15 minutes..
This thing blows away any Tascam portastudio I used to use before moving to a Mac and Logic hehe.
Its the perfect little 'scratchpad' for those of us mainly using the big sequencers like Logic, DP, etc..
Equipment used so far:
MOTU 828MKII
MAudio Oxygen 8
Emagic AMT8 Midi Interface
And every Audiounit on my mac as well:
Absynth, FM7, Waldorf PPGWave, etc..
Too bad my G4/800 and 1Ghz TiBook are still a little lagging but I can do quick little 4-8 track jams with on problem which is what I plan on using it for!!
I work for a department at UC Santa Barbara doing tech support.
Ive had Windows 2000 machines get hacked sitting on my workbench RIGHT AFTER the install of the OS was finished and the desktop came up for the first time..
Oh and lets not forget the IRC servers that pop up about once a week on our webserver patched with all of Microshits latest and greatest fixes..
Been using SBC since they were Pacbell DSL in 99.
Ive had a router on my connection since day 1 sharing it throughout the house.
Never had a single problem with it.
Originally had a Linksys 4 Port, then a Netgear, now using a Netgear 4 port wireless router.
Most of my machines are Macs, and even after the update to SBCYahoo, still no problems whatsoever..
Although I do note that email and ftp access goes a hell of alot slower on a Mac then it does on a PC.
At least for me anyways..

Funny, my iPod might not load a WINDOWS Media file, but the Zune cant use an APPLE Lossless file or an AAC...
