I ran a network cable through to my living room, plugged an xbox into it, installed xbmc and now I can watch videos stored on my server (which has a large hard drive and runs linux). I just ripped most of my DVDs to Divx, which gives more than acceptible quality, and I have a lot of mp3s on there as well. It plays all of it.
I am utterly amazed at how far the XBMC project has come along - give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
On seeing the title, my initial reaction was "Oh god, it's been delayed...". Then I remembered I physically have the game, and was playing it 5 minutes beforehand.
I disapprove of this concept - if you don't like the fact that wherever you are has a TV, go somewhere else. Just because you find it annoying doesn't mean you have the right to turn it off.
It's similar to walking into a pub and demanding that everyone stop smoking because you are a non-smoker.
I once installed a 200gig drive on an early pentium, the BIOS detected it as a 13 gig hard drive, but linux detected it and partitioned it to its full capacity.
you COULD have some issues with your laptop not recognizing the entire drive.
Actually, as long as he uses a reasonably recent OS (windows or linux) he shouldn't have any problems. Most modern OSs speak directly to the HD controller, bypassing the BIOS, and are therefore only limited to what the OS can support.
Drinks/food with all these psychoactive chemicals really makes me wonder if it would be safer (and more effective) just to legalise Ecstasy. E is rather safe, after all (the government just flat-out lies about its safety). It also provides a far more pleasant high than alcohol and certainly caffeine, and users report that they are basically "themselves", unlike being drunk where you just lose it.
Funny how nobody complained when the working classes were decimated. Oh wait, that's right, anyone earning less than 10k a year must be a crack addict and deserves to be poor.
Living in another country, you actually feel threatened by some of the stuff the US gets up to. I for one know I feel a lot less safe since the U.S started its war on terror, and not because of terrorists either.
... is people who use excel as some kind of DTP package. I used to work in a school, and the deputy principal used to make report cards by typing them into excel, and fiddling around with the cell formatting properties until it looked right. Except it didn't, and when he couldn't make something work he used to DEMAND that I help him (some things were just impossible to acheive without using Publisher or something).
The worst year was when he saved them all as CSV files (one of his friends told him it saved space or something) and it was up to me to get them back. Urgh...
Wouldn't a private IRC server, with a combination of suitable IRC services (ala NickServ and ChanServe) and fairly restrictive policies, be one solution to this problem?
umm... yes. I host such a service from my DSL line, and as there's only about 10 people on at any one time, it's plenty fast enough.
Perhaps set up nickserv with their usernames and passwords beforehand, then email them to the appropriate users?

With any luck the phone in your pocket will have a gigabit link by the year 2015.
By which time it won't seem that amazing at all.

What's wrong with that? ATRAC is still alive and well in minidisc players.
Oh, 8-Track.... riiight.....

RTFA: They're only doing this to make a buck.
Hang on a minute, isn't that the only reason any company develops any product?
Actually, the question that Arthur comes out with at the end is "What is six times nine?"
I have an electric toothbrush that charges wirelessly, I assume by using coils. Try dismantling one of those?
Little bastard should be barred from having a license to operate any vehicle, for life.
Even a segway?

...It's only a 0.995328 Megapixel camera. You've been lied to!
Yeah, taxing the poor to hell really helped people develop games...?
Am I missing something here?
But does it run l... never mind.

Soon I'm going to have to take TWO pills to go to clubs...
...Storage giant EMC has this morning been acquired by software giant Microsoft.
But it comes with your choice of toppings!
The toppings contain sodium benzoate.
That's bad.
in an unusually ironic twist, Microsoft has started talking smack
How many other people read that as "Microsoft has started TAKING smack"? That would explain most of their press releases...
They've solved two of the three basic problems of electric cars - It can go fast, and far!
