It's not really like EC2 at all. EC2 gives you a big fat slice of CPU, RAM, and disk - it's like renting a server. A beefy one.
GAPE (adopting the acronym from AccUser) is just a glorified virtual host. Not that it's a bad thing; that might be exactly what you need. EC2 is really more about computing power than the ability to serve up some webpages.
Seconded... it's a fun theory to say that this is a "false flag", but it's highly unlikely. Raiding an epilepsy board is exactly the kind of thing/b/tards do, and claiming to be from ebaumsworld pretty much seals it.
Anonymous is not an entity. Anonymous is a state of mind. There is no logic in saying "Anonymous would not do that", because if it could be construed as funny in a twisted manner, someone will do it.
What they need to do is make some discrete graphics cards. They seem to have a clue when it comes to making their hardware easy to work with from Linux; if only the cards had more horsepower they'd be a favorite in no time.
I know you can dial PSTN phones from skype if you actually subscribe, but I don't believe they can call you. It isn't really meant for professional use.
Larger apps have more eyes on them, and therefore are more likely to be fixed faster.
Not to mention that if a vulnerability is being exploited, it will get attention a lot faster by OSS devs since they don't really have working hours(though this doesn't have much of a real effect).
I remember years ago there was a program out called ActiveWorlds or something along those lines... it was essentially a MMO world where you could create things and talk, etc...
It didn't seem to live very long though, and was infested with cheap MIDI translations of popular songs(seeing as how MPEG Layer-3 was just invented and too bulky for most users), but it had its run, however small. Seems like this is a recycling of that concept...
From the people I've talked to(including the person who posted it, I provided the link), it hasn't been on CNN or anything. Really amazing that this kind of thing can slip by. It is Korea after all, and they're quite the secretive nation, so we don't and maybe won't know if it was a test, accident, or even a targeted attack. I personally don't figure it as an attack, too typical.
i really think it couldnt be anything else, i mean come on, its microsoft. it is either someone who hacked the update system, which was quickly corrected, or maybe intentional...

I don't blame you - the market is flooded with Chinese knockoffs made of Mylar and lead paint.
Peltier-based CPU coolers are quite available - see for example this amusing misuse of manufacturing resources.

I meant on the tube. CNN is kind of primarily a TV station, ya know.
