  1. good on Dasher Available For Mac OS X · · Score: 1

ive been using dasher for about 10 minutes and im quite surprised at how easy it is to learn. i can see this as being a intersting way to input text for PDA's and other small form factor computers. with some good research it could be made even better....quite impressive.

  2. Oooo, yes on Intel Whitepaper On UPnP · · Score: 1

Good one on the part of Intel with comming out with a SDK for linux as well for other platforms. This is exactly the sort of stuff we need to see more often from major companies. It helps to keep linux up to date from the people who make this stuff, not having the end users rely on people to hack apart the specs themselves and write drivers from scratch. Good one Intel.

  3. The way to make money. on Promoting Musical Artists in the Post-RIAA Music World? · · Score: 2, Funny

Digital music distribution will only take off once we ditch the CD format. In a post RIAA world (may that day come!), the only way to ensure that piracy of music will stop (and i dont care what you tell me, it IS stealing. youre getting music that you didnt pay for, period.), is to distribute the music in a DRM enabled format..and i mean DRM enabled, not DRM castrated..fair use is the key. When people move away from physical CD based distribution, and we all use solid state/HDD based players, or whatever the technology is at the time, then it will be fair. BUT, there are flaws in this that will still leave customers angry, fustrated, and ripped off. thats corporate greed...the whole music/copyright problem will never go away, unless we are either tied under a yoke of draconian measures (just look at the US...peoples rights are slipping away right from under them...corporate greed has infested politics and now law), or the music industry changes to use digital music the right way. its only a matter of time untill we move away from CD and to fully digital storage, playing, distribution etc. we can do that now with iPods and the equivalent. I just hope Apple ports iTunes to windows and linux (please!), and the iStore music store before microsoft does. Id rather see the money flow to Apple than microsoft. Then again, if Apple were in microsofts place, would they behave any different. Greed comes with power.

  4. Sex sells on Female Characters - Empowering or Endangering Equity? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Stylized killer uber women in games sells. Sex sells, its a well known advertising fact. Everyone wow'ed about how well rendered Lara's titties were when Tomb Raider first came out, and were annoyed that you couldnt get a full front view. Kids would spend hours trying to find the best position to look at. Nowadays we have Dead or Alive beach volleyball....and we can all attest to the niceness of them well rendered titties. Nothing's changed except for the graphics quality.

  5. How long will this last? on Open-Source Xbox Modchips · · Score: 3, Insightful

This information is quite valuable, both in the way that people can cheaply build their own modchips, but it is also valuable in a free (as in freedom) way too. Im guessing its only a matter of time before M$ notices and sets their lawyer bloodhounds to Ceace and Decist this information off the net. Get it while you can i guess, unless it becomes widely mirrored.

  6. umm... on Time to Face the Music · · Score: 2, Insightful

"...Such high-priced stars as Mariah Carey are getting dumped..." And here the article implies that its the "pirates" who are at fault? oh, surely it couldnt be because of her declining sales because of the fact people dont like her music anymore, and therefore wasnt making enough millions for the record company? oh comeon, these are the sort of BS articles that joe public reads, and beleives that the RIAA and their ilk are only fair and just in removing peoples free rights? itl only be one day when joe sixpack wakes up and realises that he/she doesnt have any free rights left, and that it impacts nearly every facet of their daily life, that they will realise what they have let corporate interests rule their lives and wallets. i think itl only get worse before it gets better...something has to be done here....

  7. Re:Radioisotopes on NASA Gives Up On Pioneer 10 · · Score: 1

well, i didnt mean go critical and nuke half a city or anything. I meant "dirty bomb" when i said dirty bomb, which is simply a good way to spread a good sized amount of radioactive material in a wide area...in the middle of a city, can you imagine the chaos that will ensue?

  8. Re:communication via relay? on NASA Gives Up On Pioneer 10 · · Score: 1

i think the size of the receiving dish would be too high for any probe acting as a relay to get a decent signal.

  9. Re:Radioisotopes on NASA Gives Up On Pioneer 10 · · Score: 1

as nice a thought it is, i dont think it would ever happen. youve got a few kg of highly radioactive material in a "battery", the potential for using it in a bad way is just too high. would anyone like to see our favorite terrorists using these as dirty bombs? i sure as hell wouldnt. Bring it on fuel cells. bring it on.

  10. Re:WTF? on Swarm Intelligence · · Score: 1

There is alot of merit in what this article has to say in terms of technology. Emergent behaviour is an important science, and damn amazing. Look at evolutionary programming and evolving hardware (on programable logic), genetic software and swarm intelligence. They are technologies that will in the future help tame systems that are so complex they are extremely difficult to troubleshoot, wether they be networks or software. And its damn interesting to boot.

  11. damn spam on Do-Not-Email Registries? · · Score: 1

Its a damn pity this wont help the rest of us net users outside of the jurisdiction of this bill. Spam is seriously getting out of control. But i cant see it being dealt with worldwide properly anytime soon.

  12. hope they .. on Italians Perform Groundbreaking Full Jaw Transplant · · Score: 0

at that temperature, i hope they remembered to thaw the jaw out first. just pop it into a microwave on high for a minute should do the trick.

  13. Re:Heat and power on The Battle in 64-bit Land, 2003 and Beyond · · Score: -1, Redundant

Sure, the "spacial incident" was a terrible thing and should never happen again, but the world does not stop because of an accident.

  14. Its a Pity itl take so long on US Joins ITER Tokamak Fusion Project · · Score: 2, Interesting

Its a pity that fusion based electricity generation will take so long to arrive. With fossil fuels being used at ever more larger rates, its THE technology that humanity needs to replace the current systems of electricity generation. The environmental benefits of using clean fusion to generate say, hydrogen for fuel cell powered cars as well as normal electricity use would be astounding. Unfortunately commercial greed would stiffle any hopes of that.

  15. Re:32K games? on Phantom Game Console · · Score: 1

I bet that we will find out that its simply a PC in a small box with the latest graphics...(think xbox 1.1 ) and the so called 32K games are any current PC game released in the last year or so, provided by broadband access.
