    It would be nice if they included a little more information in these Slashdot stories.

    Michael Badnarik was carrying an Order to Show Cause that he intended to serve on the CPD in the court case he has against them for using Pubic money to stage partisan two party debates. Currently the CPD has been using private secuirty in order to avoid being served court orders.

    It's also interesting to note that the government lost Badnarik and Cobb for four hours after having them arrested.

    You propose giving the government even more power over our lives and business while giving us more power over our government. How can you garrentee that we will be able to keep power over our government when we lost it once already?

    Why do you support the failed war on drugs when it has been shown that it makes it extremely profitable for people to push drugs onto our young kids, raises the prices so high that they need to break into my house in order to pay off their dealer? What not legalize drugs and end this black market?

    where does the IRS get the authority to demand you sign over financial records to them and give evidence against yourself back by threats of purgery. These powers seem to directly contradict the rights given to citizens under the bill of rights.

    This is often how the FSF works, the difference being one's for profit and the other is non profit. If you want to work on evolution and you don't want to fork over your copyright, then fork the program instead. But with so many email clients for Linux, I'm not overly worried.

    Yes it GNU could be Unix. But by the time they finished certifying it, the version would be far too old for anyone to care. The opensource software cycle is quite a bit different than the traditional software cycle.

    even though I don't agree with all of the Libertarian platform, they are the only ones heading the direction I want the country to go. Voting for anyone else is another step in the wrong direction. When the Libertarians have 40% of congree I'll consider voting for another party.

    Your comment is completely inaccurate. He only made two moives with sound that involved his trademark character, the little tramp, and only one could officially be a talkie, the other having sound effects. This virtually signalled the end of his filmn career, which after he only made 4 more movies.

    He only went to full talking in movies in 1940 when he was absolutely forced to in order to stay in business, way after talking in movies not only had became the norm, but expected.

    I imagine something useful will be built on top of Helix eventually. So far I've never found a file to play on it, as I already have more useful players that can handle the OSS files, so as far as I know it might not even work. What the open source community really needs is Free Software solutions to video, and get people pushing it for net content. The reason people what Free Code that they can compile themselves and not trust the Real, is once again we don't know if it's modified code going to these semiconductor companies or what. Windows has taught us the dangers of letting hidden code run amuck on your system. I'm thinking of starting an entire business around the cleaning of malware off machines. Yes, I use Real Player sometimes, but I try not to. I also consider it potentially hostile code and take certain actions to try and be protected.

    Actually Moore has answered *most* of those alledged errors in Bowling for Columbine. Still some big problem in it yes, such as the creation of the NRA was done by New Yorkers, and not Southern Bigots.

    Yes Disney said they wouldn't release Farenhiet, but Miramax said they would and kept giving Moore money. So in any case, it's more of an issue of how Miramax does business and their relationship with Disney.

    I thought Farenhiet 9/11 did a lot better job than Bowling did, although I did still find problems such as trying to tie Rumsfeld talking about how they picked bombing sites with the Soldiers talking about how the tanks worked. It was still a great movie letting you know how your government worked. The Democrats don't smell like roses in it either. Afterwards I wanted to put the Libertarians in charge. If I was in a swing state I'd hold my nose and vote for Kerry just to get that gang of thieves out of there.

    you still don't have the right to let others upload it from your shared folder.. That is why it's more valuable to have a wireless ethernet hub: RIAA: "We are suing you because their was piracy at this IP address" Me: "Well, currently 4 known people use that IP address and we have a wireless hub.. so perhaps someone was breaking in, I'm not too good with security so it's quite possible, as this security expert I know will testify to." Jury: "We've been shown that the defense had a reasonable expectation that his network would have been secure yet was in fact not secure. Thus we rule against the lawsuit" RIAA: "D'oh!"

    It seems like a lot of people are missing the point here. Minix is a great way to learn about how operating systems work. A Minix From Scratch project will make it even more useful for this. This will hopefully be a great education tool for people wanting to get into how oeprating systems work. I really don't see it meaning to be a big competitor with GNU/Linux or *BSD

    at least you could install SuSE 9.1 It told me that I didn't have enough memory to run the install, I have 128 Megs, and that I would have to mount an existing swap partition to continue. I didn't have one since I was migrating a FreeBSD box. After this and having 9.0 install ran like molases, I've given up on SuSE. Which is sad because SuSE 8.X was the best Linux install for me ever.

    Actually I blame the distros for all giving people KDE or GNOME by default and making it harder for them to pick different window managers durring install. Almost all distros these days seem to have one type of computer user in mind, and he has a really fast computer.

    1. Wait for a product to be hovering near death's door
    2. Release product under a new restrictive open source license
    3. People complain about license
    4. Rerelease it under the GPL
    5. Programers spend a year making the code worthwhile
    6. People complains about how poor the opensource developement model works
    7. Really cool product emerges too late to make a big impact in the market at large.

    I don't mean to sound ungrateful.. but perhaps it would be smarter for companies to use open source earlier on, not as a last ditch effort. Java has been pigeoned holed as a very large plug-in for web browsers, which Flash has done a lot better with. If they are going to see Java as a big application platform, open source is necessary and not as optional.

    I was about to post that it was silly, before I realized I was looking at the pile of free hardware my friend brought over yesterday. Then I realized I was also using free software. Which is all really convienent since I don't have a job.
