The mods aren't the only ones on crack, but the editors too. I submitted this story weeks ago and it got rejected for some odd reason, even though my submission pointed to the exact same article that this story did. Seems the editors can't make up their mind regarding what an acceptable story is. Or maybe when I submitted it the article was too fresh. They had to wait a few weeks before accepting the story so it was nice and old!;)
I agree, I used to be a strong advocate of ICQ over AIM. But then I discovered Jabber. It's everything ICQ is but without the proprietary central server.
Uh, ICQ is owned by AOL now, chap. And neither AIM nor ICQ segregate based off country, nor is there any difference in the technical skills of the users.
Now, if you just want to be an elitist and advocate a better protocol, feel free. But I would suggest you stop advocating ICQ and start advocating Jabber.:)
Well I don't agree. I think video playback on the iPod is going to be the next major kick ass thing that it'll eventually do.
I am imagining a day when I can be having lunch with a friend and make a joke, referencing the latest episode of Family Guy. If they haven't seen the episode and therefore don't get the joke, instead of explaining it to them, I can just pull my iPod out of my pocket, skip to the scene in question, and let them watch it.
Maybe iPod Linux will get there first. And maybe it'll only play xvid. Or maybe Apple will do this, and it'll only play Quicktime. I don't really care. I'm willing to spend a few minutes converting my existing videos into a reduced resolution xvid or Quicktime format to be able to watch them on an iPod. The quality loss won't matter much on such a small screen.
Apple is cooperating a lot more with Konqueror now that they've open sourced WebKit. I would imagine the Konqueror people are pretty happy with Apple right now.
Fullmetal Alchemist seems pretty kiddish to me. I haven't seen Ghost in the Shell aside from the movies, so I can't comment on it. The movies were good though.
I'm just tired of seeing crap like Dragon Ball Z on Cartoon Network. It's a sorry excuse for anime. It ruins the genre. To me, anime is a pretty dead genre these days, for I haven't seen any new anime that was actually good in years.
It's better than their current crap excuse for an anime lineup. This is the first respectable thing I've seen them put up. I just hope they don't heavily censor it.
Sometimes, in some situations, there's nothing wrong with it.
Personally, when I played MMORPGs, I played for the PVP aspect of it. And when you're into PVP, if you're not an uber maxed out d00d, you simply cannot compete.
I remember a time in Ultima Online when you could start a character and finish him in a day. You'd be on the same level as everyone else and all that mattered at that point was skill. It's certainly not that way anymore; even the free servers which are dedicated to being "retro" can't quite get it right. A shame.
I dig the point you're making, but it's a big exaggerated. I'm not saying MMORPGs should appeal to everyone. I'm saying they should be developed in such a way that casual gamers aren't left in the dust. Is there something wrong with that?
The thing that makes my situation ironic is that I hate FPS games, even though they're all that's available to me without too much time commitment. I played Ultima Online in my Wintendo years and it quickly went the way of Everquest. Endless time sinks. Even though you can play the game for free now, I find myself disinterested thanks to the time sinks and the lack of a non-Windows client.
Maybe someone will hear the cries of the casual gamer and write a decent crossplatform MMOG that doesn't suck people in EverCrack style. That'll be the day, eh?
MMOG's biggest collective problem is the lack of an ability to be a casual play. Virtually every MMOG I've played outside of a FPS forces you to play constantly if you're be at all successful.
Frankly, I'm just not a kid anymore. I can't spend 8 hours a day on a Wintendo playing a game. The only games I'll play today are ones that don't suck up my time and aren't Windows-only. That means I don't play many games.;)
Mod parent underrated, so he can have +5 flamebait like his sig says!
Seriously, I RTFA and the developer said that. This is a temporary solution until XGL matures. He said the point of this little project is to get eyecandy like transparent windows working "today." So we don't have to wait on XGL for everything.
Don't you think five apostrophes in a single story headline is a bit... excessive?
it would be ironic. ;)
I think he wanted to know the longest actual thread, not the story with the most comments.
Kobal?
Old news.
Battlestar Galactica visited that place last season...
Simple countermeasure:
Warez group hacks a copy of Windows Whatever Pro to make sure that this picacy check can't disable the TCP/IP stack, or disable the OS in any way.
The user of this hacked copy still won't be able to get updates, but that's what sites like this are for.

No... really? I would never have guessed!

You mean the free internet I'm getting from my neighbors isn't legal? :(

I would say Cowboy Bebop is a notable exception.
But most of Cartoon Network's programming is kid's shows. Not real anime.

I can understand them shooting your dog. But drinking your beer?! That's just going too far.
