I thought I read a while back that Microsoft was buying Phoenix or something and that in the future a lot of newer BIOSes were going to be made by MS? Am I on crack or is this what's actually going to happen?
I'm a Gentoo/Knoppix guy with a touch of Win2000 for games and Kazaa. I, and all my nerd friends, believe that BSD is a superior way to design an operating system, but it's tragic lack of external hardware and software support make it virtually unusable as a desktop. Linux, however, is a decent desktop for the computer-literate user, so I'll stick with it until they port MacOSX to x86;)
What kind of sound does death make? Even more abstract and non-extant, what is the sound of one OS dying?
Horrible screams of pain echoing because no one's there to hear them? Yeah it's pretty bad. One of those things where you would have had to be there to appreciate it... only in this case you would have had to have been hearing my thoughts at the time I thought it to appreciate it because it's becoming less funny now, even to me;)
BSD needs better driver support and more software before I'll use it:(

OK:
"I would like to know which of Gnome or KDE is better. Any opinions?"
*bites troll* KDE's better. Hell, even Linus uses it. But just because KDE's better doesn't mean Gnome sucks. Gnome's faster, GTK is better than QT and GTK apps look better in Gnome, and Gnome is overall less bloated. But KDE is far more configurable, so I like it better.
I predicted it and it shall come true. FFXI will be the first and maybe even the only MMORPG to overtake Everquest. And there's only one reason for that. The name. Final Fantasy. This is proof that brand names really do influence people.
As a former MMORPG player, I always found the concept of real life value to in game objects to be disgusting. I only played (Ultima Online) for the PVP and that's all I enjoyed about it. A few expansions ago I got fed up with the growing emphasis on player wealth. It got to the point where only the wealthy players could PVP successfully.
So I stopped playing. But like all good opportunists, I took advantage of what disgusts me the most: the value of my in-game possessions. I sold my in-game house on Ebay for $300 and all my in-game gold for a similar figure and reclaimed most of what I'd pumped into the game over the years. I could have sold my account for an equally large sum because it had a veteran status, but I'm only willing to sacrafice so much of my dignity. I don't think I could live with myself if someone was running around in-game with my name.:)
After I stopped playing it really started to dawn on my how much of a shady business MMORPGs really are. They're not about keeping you entertained, they're about keeping your subscription. Although, to be honest, the early years of UO were a lot of fun. I'm just glad I had the good sence to bail out when I realized it was more frustrating than fun.
The fact is *most* open source projects are done by students or the unemployed. [snip] However I think the concept of open source, giving something away that could be sold is pretty unique to software development right now. I find it humorous that people just give away all their work myself.
Let's see... I'm a college student, an open source programmer and an artist. I seem to fit pretty well into your stereotype except for two things. One, my artwork is just as free as my software, and two, unless something strange happens to me that you failed to predict, when I finish college I intend to continue developing my software and artwork for free.
Assuming that there are more students than unemployed people, I'm going to infer that you're trying to convince us that open source is popular among the younger generation and not the older. If that's true, please die soon so my seemingly more enlightened generation can take over;)
I hadn't seen a BSOD for THREE YEARS until I started college. The first thing I saw when I came home after the first day of classes was a BSOD on my roommate's computer. That was my first moment of real doubt that I'd find anyone else at my little community college who knew anything about Linux. The blue glow of the BSOD has become a common thing in my dorm these days from the opposite end of my side of the room.
I suppose this isn't really a public sighting, but there's very little privacy in a dorm room. Since I'm the only Linux user a the entire school, BSOD sightings are pretty common.
Unless I'm missing something, this is hillarious. The way I read it, his law school is forcing everyone to get a Windows laptop to be able to run some exam software. The implications of this are fun to think about. For one, by forcing everyone on a single platform, the law school seems to be going against the Microsoft antitrust rulling. Secondly, doesn't using "exam software" on people's personal computers seem a little insecure? How long until someone brute forces all the multiple choice questions?
4-day-long? By my calculations at an average bitrate of 128kbps that puts you with an mp3 collection of about 6 gigs. I had a larger illegal mp3 collection than that before Napster! I feel sorry for you, sir.
We all know that holding a cell phone while driving is illegal, but I recently was made quite unpleasently aware of the fact that wearing headphones while driving is illegal too. My suggestion to you is to get a speaker phone system for your car. Unfortunately, I don't know of any seeing as how I don't use cell phones.

Maybe Solaris 10 is actually Solaris 2 because you're supposed to read 10 as binary...
Traditionally it's used only when exactly two things are being compared, but it is not technically grammatically incorrect to use more than two.

Ekko pronounced like echo? You know, like the echos coming from the sound of BSD dying?

Yeah, you could use one of those moderations right about now Mr. Anonymous.
That is true. And so is my story, which makes me wonder why I was modded as a troll.

You don't need a godlike Neo to hack a pathetic Windows-based Matrix...

While that is true, trends are looking grim for in-car cellphone users.
Better fix: don't use Windows.

Paragraphing is a virtue ;)
Scroll to the bottom of this page. Read your ext2/3 partitions in Windows with glee. I'm pretty sure it can write to ext2, but not ext3.
