Where a license is used for open source code, a similar license can be used for mmog users in a mentor role. Granted, some level of support is needed from the game itself, but, if used properly, nearly every issue can be resolved by an experienced player. The company must explicitly define the role of these mentor players and the type of support it will offer, but by allowing users to support each other, you can avoid the costs associated with support. With a proper license, most lawsuits could be dismissed, and any that aren't couldn't possibly be too large to settle.
The author sees problems that need to be micromanaged. In my experience with projects like this, you need organic growth, not sudden, rapid growth like the Sims Online got. Many users are willing to create content for you, if you waive their monthly fee. This could represent a small portion of your userbase, and the content creators become more valuable than their waived fee. In regards to customer service, many of the most sucessful online games have a group of players who are in a "mentor" role. They answer questions, help out newbies, etc. Some do it out of good will, others do it for special privilages they get in the game. These two simple steps can drastically reduce the complexity of an online game.
Unfortunately, because of the global nature of the internet, and therefore spam, laws such as Ohio's can never be inforced. Global restrictions or the use of good technology are the only solutions. And because many governments have higher priorities (such as terrorism, the environment, commerce), it may be awhile before any UN Commission on Spam proposes a treaty. As such, we should rely on technology, rather than regulation.
it stood for Service Measure: Accuracy and Quality. We twisted the name just to fit it into the acronym. It was just a simple app that measured how well a phone call to our 800 number went.
I've been doing that for awhile, I've signed with Queen Victoria, Napoleon Bonaparte, Margret Thatcher, and Elvis Presley. In over two years, only one cashier has ever noticed. He stopped me on the way out the door and said "Napoleon Bonaparte?"
I said "yeah, its a nickname," and the man actually believed me.
The Win Without War Coalition organized today the first ever Virtual March on Washington. Opposed the potential war on Iraq, the protesters have organized over 85,000 emails, faxes, and phone calls, translating to more than one phone call per minute to each Senate office.
Yep, there's actually a group looking into it called FIMA, the Financial Instant Messaging Association. Reuters sells an MSNclone for the industry, but it hasn't seen much use, pending the results of FIMA's investigation. Once we get a good standard from FIMA, we expect to use it to supplement our many phone calls across institutions. One of our main concerns, like the school admin above, is tracking, we're required to keep emails and other communication, and IM easily fits into a broad definition of that. Eliot Spitzer has already sued (and settled) with several large firms in New York over email accountability and tracking, so financial services is being very conservative about any implementation of this technology.
If you don't know about it, this is a good time to know.
Packet loss reached 14% at 2:20, and the global traffic index dropped to just below 73%. However, according to the many graphs on the site, things have pretty much recovered.
Working in the financial services industry, I see Eliot crack down time and time and time again on evil-doers in investment banking. Its good to see he's not so focused on just one area. This guy is really great guy, always focused on the little guy.
For he's a jolly good fellow!
Clearly, Cary Sherman will be the new chief. The press release is all there. Rosen said:
"The Board will be conducting a formal search for my replacement over the next several months and we are confident of a smooth transition. I believe that the RIAA staff is simply the best in the business and I am proud of the team we have built.
"Cary Sherman will remain in his current position as RIAA President and the Board and I have asked him to serve on the search committee," concluded Rosen.
Why even bother to point out he's on the search committee unless he'll head it up? After all, Dick Cheney headed up Bush II vice presidential committee during the 2000 election.

Looks like Mr. Sherman will as head of the RIAA will not lead to anything different at the RIAA, except, perhaps many more tesosterone induced lawsuits.

People are dying at incredible rates because of a lack of education (costs money) and treatment (costs money).
Excellent idea.
But wait, I thought my President said that its okay to make spiteful, unthinking remarks without thinking first?

Right, but supposing they do have hard evidence, but just didn't make it available on the site, /. might want the scoop. All editors want scoops.
