Keep in mind that FreeBSD has features that Linux is just now putting in.... USB, etc. On the other foot, linux has better SMP support, etc.
Seems to me that the extra "bloat" was left out on purpose and will continue to be that way.
Stable over Cutting edge is pretty much the FreeBSD way.
