Not that it's being suggested that reading the articles helps or anything (this is /., after all), but 'Mr Turner' is the local police chief.

Mind you, I guess that still doesn't stop him also being Mrs. Pike; I'm assuming that's her in the photo, but I'm not 100% convinced.

The point wasn't to record tones as an indication of which keys had been pressed. Just as an indication of when keys had been pressed. Don't forget - the camera would already be able to see which keys the person had put pressure on, just not whether it resulted in a valid keypress.

Excuse the pedantry - the grandparent post didn't provide a 'generic' password, just one that had the same hash value as the password 'test'.

(try protecting a Word 2000 or 2002 document with the password 'test', then unprotect it with the given password)

Within the cast commentry for FOTR, it was mentioned how Ian Holm had had his face taped, to stretch his skin and hide wrinkles. That'd be something he could do for a scene that took maybe a day or two. But for an entire film?

If you installed a 400W power-supply, the system would not eat 400W of power. It would eat only as much as the system requires (under 100W)

The parent stated '450W PC', not '450W power supply'. I take that to mean the parent is specifically describing a PC that requires 450W, not a power supply that could potentially supply it.

A very good point, but I don't always use the VPN connection. With the exception of the ADSL modem, the hardware I run at home, and the domain itself, are my own personal property and are additionally used for non-business-related purposes.

I'll bite, as I'm in the same situation as the grandparent.

My ISP decided that it was in everyone's best interests to rewrite the domain part of every email going through it to their domain; fine for 99% of users, but not those who don't want to use the ISP's domain. Given a choice between running my own smarthost, or abusing an external open relay, no prizes for guessing which I'd prefer.

(The third option, "use a different ISP" doesn't apply - my employer pays, so they get to choose.)
