Really makes the patent system look like a tool of would-be monopolists.
The point is patents is precisely to grant monopolies. Everyone using patents is, in some sense, a monopolist.
Patents are a lot like chemotherapy. When they're limited in scope and duration, they can be a net-positive. Unfortunately, today's patent regime is more like a big dose of polonium.
I think I've heard two definitions for homeopathic. The first is the silliness of infinite dilution creating a water with some non-water quality. The other is more what I'd call folk medicine, which is simply a greater willingness to assume that traditional, low-cost solutions such as various teas for various ailments work until proven otherwise.
Now we find out if Valve is a gamer's company or not. If they're about gamers, they'll embrace this and use it to stoke interest in HL3. If they're all about lawyers (I'm looking at you, new-Blizzard), they'll kill this with C&D letters regarding trademark / copyright infringement.
Catholicism officially recognizes evolution to be correct. They're still having trouble with realizing there isn't a god, but you can see why that one is a bit harder for them.
And you still have trouble realizing ther is a God.
The war on drugs is a disaster. Decriminalize all drugs, since that is the only thing that leads to a decrease in drug use and an increase in treatment.
Some drugs are more problematic than others. I really don't want someone who's been doing steroids for 3 years to stand in front of my house and ingest PCP.
Not unless he's surrounded by several policemen with pre-drawn tasers.
One of the comforts of the Christian religion is that everyone get's what's coming to him/her in the end. Unless they accept God's offer of a free way out should they choose to accept it.
I'm not asserting that Christianity is correct - merely that it promises ultimate justice in the end.
Amen, brother. And so Activation has lost my business to Runic.
I doubt Activision will really notice or care about the small % loss of money, but it only takes a small number of people buying TL2 instead of D3 to give Runic a huge % increase in revenue.
Ah well, I'm still glad people like us are doing what we can, and voting with our wallets.
(Piracy is not an option in my house.)
Honestly, I don't expect voting with my wallet to have any real impact. However, Torchlight 2 should provide roughly the kind of fund I'd been hoping for from D3. So even if Activision doesn't care that I go for T2 vs. D3, at least I can still have my fun.
My guess is that what they're losing in sales to people like you (and me), they're more than recouping in the buy-things-for-real-world-money shenanigans they've instituted.
Sucks, but I guess that's how the cookie crumbles.
You're viewing this as an IT industry problem.
Considering what you're about to do for 4+ years, maybe you should treat this as a psych problem!

...can (3.0 + 0.6) be less than 2.
In a mod 3.3 number system, yes :)

Golly, do I hope for the former.
The word is beknighted you landless peasant!
First step, get a big cup of good coffee. Or a fifth of Jack Daniels, if you just want to finish in 10 minutes.

See what I did there?
Do you have any examples of this happening?
Because if the police were to stop him with deadly or non-deadly force, the risk of me getting sued or going to jail is close to nil.
If I were to do it, the risk is considerably higher.

I agree I was oversimplifying, but I didn't reckon anyone would read a longer post.

"No." -Activision
Yes. I dislike Gnome3 and the OS X desktop about equally. And Unity blows them both away, regarding the depths of hatred it elicits from me.
I tried going to KDE because of my Gnome 3 / Unity hatred, but sadly KDE runs strangely slowly even on my fairly high-end laptop (Dell M6500).
I sucked it up and went with Mate, since it's reasonably close to Gnome 2.
I don't understand why people associate "crap" with "bad." I just made a crap, and it was awesome!
Wait - are you the guy who designed Unity?
I am retarded you insensitive clod!
Watch two-girls-one-cup, and I think you'll realize that there are some things that even Gnome 3 is better than.
So you're saying it's "crap"?
After Robert Jordan's failure to properly finish a series (repeatedly), that's a pretty raw nerve for me....
Schindler's List is happier than the opening story line.
