    Really makes the patent system look like a tool of would-be monopolists.

    The point is patents is precisely to grant monopolies. Everyone using patents is, in some sense, a monopolist.

    Patents are a lot like chemotherapy. When they're limited in scope and duration, they can be a net-positive. Unfortunately, today's patent regime is more like a big dose of polonium.

    I think I've heard two definitions for homeopathic. The first is the silliness of infinite dilution creating a water with some non-water quality. The other is more what I'd call folk medicine, which is simply a greater willingness to assume that traditional, low-cost solutions such as various teas for various ailments work until proven otherwise.

    Because if the police were to stop him with deadly or non-deadly force, the risk of me getting sued or going to jail is close to nil.

    If I were to do it, the risk is considerably higher.

    The war on drugs is a disaster. Decriminalize all drugs, since that is the only thing that leads to a decrease in drug use and an increase in treatment.

    Some drugs are more problematic than others. I really don't want someone who's been doing steroids for 3 years to stand in front of my house and ingest PCP.

    Not unless he's surrounded by several policemen with pre-drawn tasers.

    I'm not asserting that Christianity is correct - merely that it promises ultimate justice in the end.

    Amen, brother. And so Activation has lost my business to Runic.

    I doubt Activision will really notice or care about the small % loss of money, but it only takes a small number of people buying TL2 instead of D3 to give Runic a huge % increase in revenue.

    Ah well, I'm still glad people like us are doing what we can, and voting with our wallets.

    (Piracy is not an option in my house.)

    Honestly, I don't expect voting with my wallet to have any real impact. However, Torchlight 2 should provide roughly the kind of fund I'd been hoping for from D3. So even if Activision doesn't care that I go for T2 vs. D3, at least I can still have my fun.

    My guess is that what they're losing in sales to people like you (and me), they're more than recouping in the buy-things-for-real-world-money shenanigans they've instituted.

    Yes. I dislike Gnome3 and the OS X desktop about equally. And Unity blows them both away, regarding the depths of hatred it elicits from me.

    I tried going to KDE because of my Gnome 3 / Unity hatred, but sadly KDE runs strangely slowly even on my fairly high-end laptop (Dell M6500).

    I sucked it up and went with Mate, since it's reasonably close to Gnome 2.
