I don't think it's the space that's so bad. The fact that I'm next to several racks, the door, and the only copier for the room right next to the opening of my cube that is really troublesome.
I work for a small company (actually owned by my father) and I've been pushing for migration for some time. Our problem is that we have several in-house Access databases that would be non-trivial to switch to something else. But this kind of story, at the very least, gives ammo to guys like me to convince the boss to switch.
Isn't, "My father will fire you.." all the ammo you need?

Imho the ability to reply at my convenience, rather than the sender's, underlies much of the usefulness of e-mail. If you treat mail the same as a phone call, frequent mail will kill your productivity in exactly the same way as do frequent calls. Many of the time management articles / books I've read recently emphasize a disciplined approach to handling mail: On the inbox side, set aside time twice a day to respond to normal mail, and configure your mail client to do pop-up / audio notification only for priority msgs. And avoid IM at all costs. On the outbox side, use mail if a response isn't needed within four hours; otherwise, call.
Sadly, one of the things which the time management experts apparently haven't addressed is how to deal with the twit who mails you, then calls / drops by two minutes later to see if you received it, and why you haven't answered....
Wow, I've never noticed just how annoying I can be.:)
This thread has really opened my eyes, and I will slow down a little bit.
Interesting, I want to check out ESPN. What format would you recommend?
I personally would have recommended the dreamcast (r.i.p.), but at this point I'd recommend the ps2.
It has online play for free, and it is incredible graphically on the ps2.
It's all personal preference though.
ESPN Football is marginally better than Madden when all is said and done, and if you truely like Madden, you may not like ESPN football as much.
ESPN Basketball is 10000 times better than Live. End of discussion.
I'd suggest if you're a basketball fan, going that direction. There is always next year for football, and no point buying it this year when Madden can do you fine on the football front.
I loved NFL 2k2. Awesome game. Enter NFL 2k3 stage left. Horrible disapointment, I hated the gameplay mechanics. Haven't had a chance to check out the newest installment.
NFL 2k3 wasn't that bad, but they did redo NFL2k4 quite a bit. I have converted every Madden fan I have come across because of the gameplay.
You have to bite your tongue and bare the learning curve (if you're unfamiliar with the 2k series), but it is really worth it. It is much more realistic in the game, not the mechanics.
The mechanics are realistic, but less compared to Madden, but the overall end result if more realistic. I.E. L. Tomlinson will run for 2.1 yards per carry and then break off a 45 yarder. This is quite in tune with the way he plays, as opposed to him getting 4.0 a carry, and that matching him.
If he doesn't break off his long runs, he's an average back. NFL2k4 does a better job of this than Madden which assumes that since he is a good back, he will play like a good back, and not as much like himself.
One thing I like about Madden is the Mini-Camp mode. Awesome stuff, it basically teaches you how to play. I feel 100% more educated about football and I have more of an appreciation for skills like pocket presence on TV. Seems more...realistic.
And that's true. Madden's Mini-Camp rules. No doubt.
I loved playing it, and the Madden cards add a great aspect to the game.
But NFL2k4 is a much better game to play. It feels much more like a real game than Madden. Madden doesn't seem very fluid.
Try a screen pass in Madden, and you'll see what I mean.
Running is also not as fluid. That doesn't mean it's easier in NFL2k4, but it definately is much more realistic, fluid, and fun.
The utter best part about ESPN football is the ability to tweak every single part of the Computer AI. If I feel as those the corners are converging on the reciever realisticly, but the cover skills are not as realistic, I can tweak them.
Until you chance upon me while I'm listening to KMFDM and you realize that there are some things you never wanted to hear. Then you spend the next hour trying to forget the experience.
Who wouldn't want to hear KMFDM, and furthermore why would they be frightening at all?
MADDEN 2004 (GAMECUBE) This cash cow for EA Sports is better than last year's. I've seen so many bad sequels (coughMatrix) that I'm impressed. I like the well-done execution as well as the fact that it's a party game that people can get into fairly quickly. In addition, there is added depth in the mini-camp and owner modes. Is it worth $50? Maybe, maybe not. But it IS unequivocally a better game than last year's, which is more than I can say for...
It is unequivocally a better game than last year's. It's also a terrible game in comparison to ESPN NFL Football.
Madden only wins in additional aspects (Madden Cards), while ESPN football destroys Madden in gameplay.
I'm a fan of gameplay.
Oh, and any CIV3 rules. If you ever see me online, I'll whoop ya.:)

if I had mod points, you'd be modded up. I don't agree with every arguement you had, but it was well thoughtout, and brought up a lot of good points.
I'll add you as a friend at least. Nice reading.
But Daddddd..... I swear I thought Linux was the correct solution.....
Does this mean no Ice Cream?

I'm installing Vmware GSX right now. I was checking slashdot while the server reboots.
I'm sure we all know a:
Mac Zealot
Microsft Apologist
Pompus Unix Geek
And some of us know someone who is all three.
*shudder*
And after that article, I'm thinking that my next computer purchase might be a Mac.
Egads.
Hahaha, I totally forgot I was using Mozilla.
I wondered why it didn't show a fake address for me.

great comment. that's all.
Oh yeah, always attack the French. I fear them more than any other civ. I can kill war mongering civilizations. I just hate the French. :)

ESPN = Sega's NFL series?
Yup!

That's sooooo two weeks ago.

Because if the Top 5 games in a given season are all Sports titles, and you don't like sports, then you will not find it very helpful at all.
If you do not find it helpful, you don't go back.
If you don't go back, they won't make $4.50 in ad revenue.
It's a process.
I live in Arizona, and we have quite a few Mexican voters named "Bill Davis."
Thousands.
Actually, voting machines are already like slot machines, except no matter what comes up you always lose.
Except?
Either way, I always lose. Where are you playing?
I'll pay 50 dollars for 1!
We need to outsource management to India.
What i'd like much better is moving Management to India, and keeping the software jobs in the U.S.
"Dude, you're getting a (long pause) Big Mac."
I thought the Pot called the Kettle black. If the Kettle is calling I'm sure he only wants to inform you how tired that joke is.
How 'bout these:
What's your Karma?
How often do you post to Slashdot?
How many stories have you successfully submitted to Slashdot?
That's something I said in my last interview. Got the job.
