iOS only supports true multitasking for a limited number of applications (phone, music player, voip, etc...) , for everything else is it's not multitasking but swapping out programs left and right.
I always wondered if people don't bother keeping contact with their classmates using more traditional means (email, phone), why do they bother reconnecting with them using Facebook? You didn't keep contact for 10-15 years, making one assume that these people were either boring, not classifiable as 'friends' or simply idiots, and now suddenly with Facebook there is this urge to reconnect. To the people who matter to me, I kept contact with them using traditional means, because I like their company/friendship. To the people I didn't bother keeping contact with, I won't, not gonna bother with Facebook nor (insert social network) du jour, because they are boring. I don't get Facebook.:(
Have you ever cleaned up a virus ridden PC? Or had to run into work Saturday at 4AM because the worm du jour was wreaking havoc on your servers? Do you maintain RadioactiveX code? Or VB6 crap?
The iPhone and Google's phones were hyped badly before launch; highly anticipated; no wonder they sold well.
Exactly. There was no hype at all around Windows Phone 7. None. Nada. Zilch. That explains all those TV commercials, launch parties, paid shills like Paul Thurrott and Co. touting Windows 7 Phone as the second coming of Zeus.
Will not work because ISPs are moving toward caps, if they haven't already. In Canada, I am paying around 45 bucks a month for 7.5 megabit download speed and 60 GB cap. If I want to watch 3 BluRay movies a month, I am fucked, I just busted my cap.
Also, you really think people with no technical know how will wait 5+ hours to download one movie? Or how about people who have slower connections because they don't need anything faster? You really think Apple couldn't stream 1080p from their stores, yet they have gone 720p. Couldn't be because people have limited bandwith and patience?
The death of physical media has been greatly exaggerated!
Firefox 4 Beta 6 with AdBlock+ and changing %homepath%\Application Data\Macromedia from folder to a system file stops this. You do have to set Firefox to clear all browsing data upon exit. Tested also flushing the browser data while browser being open and it works as well. The site can't keep 'evercookies' on my machine. However changing Macromedia folder from folder to file will break a few websites that use heavily flash.
As a middle aged programmer, I always try to keep my knowledge up to date. Yes it comes at the cost of 'free time', but in the end, if I want to have a fun job, I need to do it (and luckily, my significant other understands it and supports me). The other options are: moving into management (which I despise) or be stuck fixing Hadean Cobol code. When I got my degree, I knew only Cobol, Assembler and C. Over the years I added VB, Java and C# to my list along with a bunch of frameworks like.NET, Spring, iBatis, name it. This self teaching has brought me a lot of fun projects in all kinds of languages running on all kinds of systems.
But I can see where this animosity towards older coders comes from: the vast majority of them don't give a damn about new technologies/languages/frameworks. So when the boss decided to use one of those, they won't be able to keep up. In my group of 20 or so coders, maybe 2-3 are continually keeping themselves up to date with recent technologies. Some of the VB coders have hard time grasping class attributes in C#, because they never kept up with object oriented languages. Hell, some of them code in C# as it was VB.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of this domain, I see only one option for me if I want to keep programming: learn or perish. When the next great recession hits, I can at least put multiple language/system skills on my resumé, while some older programmers can't.
I don't think the leaked Afghanistan war documents are a 'little egg'. It's clear proof that the war is lost and there is no hope for winning. This whole fuss about the leaked documents are a diversion for other serious issue the current administration failed with: BP, the economy, watered down regulations, broken campaign promisses, etc...
Not just that, managers want something even a monkey can configure and maintain. Ease of use, or as TFA puts it 'boring' is good in my opinion. It's not coincidence that Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distro, it's easy to use and lot of times, it just works.
What evidence was there, other than the bloggers post, that an offence had occurred? How could the police charge him without it?
He admitted it himself. Admitting your crimes on the internet are no different than admitting them in real life. There also were pictures and videos of his crime.
Same laws apply to Internet as real life. It would be pretty stupid to go tell police that. Well, they can read the internet too.
This morning I drove at about 200km/h in a 30 zone. I ran over two dogs, three cats, four kids and two older people. All this while being high on meth and drunk on tequila. Oh and I took my AK-47 and shot up in the air too to celebrate my murderous rampage.
My name is: John Smith. Address: 123 Fake Street. City: Springfield.
Please call the cops so they arrest me. I am sure a judge will sentence me to death or something for admitting a crime on the internet. Especially since all you read on the internet is the absolute truth no?
PS: There was an eye witness. No mention of video/pictures. That's why the driver was convicted.
I got a bunch of encrypted archives uploaded to my Google Docs account that I can access anywhere I need it.
Haven't looked around but with the new Google command line tool (or other command line tools), pretty sure uploading/downloading could be automated. Then fire up WinRar using the same script and encrypt/decrypt archive. This way Google can't snoop on your files.
You can modify the shortcut for IE or Chrome to start in private/incognito mode all the time (no need to set it on each program startup). Problem is, 99% of the planet wouldn't know/understand how to do this and this is the issue, if geeks can avoid tracking with ad blocking and incognito mode and whatnot, the average browser user can't. If IE really wanted to distance themselves from other browsers, they would have made privacy an opt-out feature, instead an opt-in.
Actually, I think it's just ignorance and lack of technical knowledge from the users.
And this is different how from Windows users, Android users or (insert technology here) users?
Apple and its users tend to run around telling how great their products are and there are no faults in anything.
And this is different from Microsoft, Google, Dell, Nike, Coca Cola... how? Every company that wants to make money touts their products as being the absolute best. Duh! Marketing 101! Name me one successful company that tells people: Hey, our products have flaws in them, but please buy them!
Another great example of this ignorance (and misinformation spread by Apple) is that Mac OSX is virus-free and will stay so, while in fact there have been several recent instances of malware on OSX. The funny thing is that because Apple spreads these lies and users blindly trust them, they also are ignorant and can't see it. It's the classic lalalalala.
Nice troll.
Ignorance is what is happening here too.
Yes because Windows, Android and other technology users are so smart and informed. For a great example, look at this video how the 99% of the population is ignorant.
You seem very jaded and pissed off that Apple is out marketing any other company. When you realize that Apple is no different than other companies, maybe you'll come to your senses and stop trolling. Every company lies to sell more products/services, it's a fact of life, Apple is no different than Microsoft, Google, Nike, Coca Cola or Haliburton.
I have family on different continents and never saw the need of using Facebook to connect with them or stay in touch. Email/phone/IM is way better. As for friends/family around me, I usually get together with them quite a few times each year, again, phone/email/IM is there too. I don't see the need for Facebook to connect with people I care about. For people I don't care about, even when they added me on Facebook I simply put them in a limited user profile group and they didn't see jack. I guess I am too anti-social to understand why people use Facebook, I did use it a bit though, but realized that the stuff I wanted to communicate with them, I already did with IMs, emails or simple phone calls, or better in person. The way I see it, if I really care about a person, I will make sure to stay in touch and no need to re-connect.
A personal IM, email or phone call IMO is way better to communicate with friends/family than posting some crap on Facebook your friends can see, it's more personal, private and puts emphasis on that person to tell this person: you are important to me. Facebook removes this facet of personal communication.
The FIFA could give each team three video decisions (like the three substitutions they have) challenge opportunities. When a team notices a ruling against them that has serious consequences (red card, goal disallowed, handball, etc...), they can stop the game and ask for a video ref's ruling. It would only interrupt games something like six times max per game. Yes it would lose a bit of fluidity but for the integrity of the sport, video replay is required.
Also, post play, referees could go through the footage and identify divers and play actors. Those will be sanctioned post game with red cards and/or suspensions. Worse, if they notice chronic play acting or diving from a team (I am looking at you Italy!), then they could suspend the entire team.
Unless the FIFA starts reclaiming the integrity of the game with serious sanctions against players and/or teams, the game will be plagued by cheating, diving and acting.
That's what I was asking myself all the time, then with every single FIFA World Cup I am reminded why:
Incompetent referees: US being denied TWO game winning goals in TWO different matches (no refs, those weren't off sides). Brazil scoring a goal after a double handball (that fucked CIV for sure). Villa from Spain slapping a Honduras player: no infraction (should have been a straight red card)! And I won't even mention the hand of Henry. While most major sports have evolved to use video replay, not the FIFA! No sir! And even if you have clear video of players blatantly cheating, the FIFA won't do shit: see Ireland being fucked over by Thiery Henry and France. The FIFA is so stuck up and stubborn that even when Henry said: "Yes I cheated", they didn't do a thing.
Cheaters: Asshole Italian (De Rossi, I know, I am shocked too, Italian divers, who would have tought?! He did same exact thing in 2006.) dives in the Kiwi penalty area to get his team a penalty shot. I am pretty sure Italians have discovered a new force in nature because being pulled back from your shirt, somehow miraculously they fall forward! Endresult: Kiwis are fucked. Italy, France and Brazil along with Christian Ronaldo are masters of diving. As soon as one of their players is touched, they dive. Couple this with incompetent referees and a broken referee system and you got a clusterfuck of bad calls.
Playacting: Kaká being sent off with with double yellow card because Keita from CIV was "writhing" in immense pain on his head after being touched in the chest. I wish I had this insane ability of Kaká, just touch someone and this dude is in mega pain! Oh and let's not mention Miroslav Klose from Germany sent off as well because of obvious play acting from the serbian side. His first yellow card was completely unwarranted.
Every single game, watch players agonize in pain as if they are dying, 20 seconds later they are back on their feet and trucking along. Now watch a hockey game with a player receiving a puck in the face, losing a few teeth, bleeding, sits down on bench a few minutes, gets patched up and goes back playing. All this without one single moment of agonizing in pain, and I am willing to bet he was in infinitely more pain than the football player. Football is slowly becoming a joke, becoming almost as bad as WWE wrestling. The difference between WWE and football is that football is only partially acted out versus WWE is all acting. This is very unfortunate because the game is beautiful, but it's being ruined by a federation, the FIFA, stuck in a 1920 mentality and of course by the hordes of players who abuse the system to cheat.

Not to mention, his fortune was earned as the head of a company that is a monopoly and was found guilty of abusing their monopoly on three continents.
Why is parent flamebait? If a service is free, then you are the product.
They were very innovative in the 90s
Can you name a few innovative products from MS?
The iPhone and Google's phones were hyped badly before launch; highly anticipated; no wonder they sold well.
Exactly. There was no hype at all around Windows Phone 7. None. Nada. Zilch. That explains all those TV commercials, launch parties, paid shills like Paul Thurrott and Co. touting Windows 7 Phone as the second coming of Zeus.
How come IE doesn't have 90%+ share? 90%+ of the PCs of the world run Windows ...
See what I did there?

Windows is the single worst thing out there.
Or more likely, your simply inept.

I am surprised that folks at Microsoft have decided to employ Adobe's Flash other than their own Silverlight.
Compare the market share of Flash and Silverlight. If you want to get your message passed to the most people, which platform would you pick?
