That's the main reason I'm still alive. Shooting yourself is far from trivial (many screw it up and just get terribly injured) and getting the right pills takes a major effort too.
But this nonsense about, "If I can't get what I want, I won't get anything at all," is a load of crap. How do you expect to get anything?

Whenever I do, I must conclude that it wasn't worth the effort. Usually I end up feeling up worse than before. Any sane person will avoid situations that make him feel worse than before. And don't tell me that only I can make a difference. While in theory true, it doesn't do any difference in practice so I can save the effort and spend the energy on something more rewarding.
It's unfair to say that life is passing them by while they wait, but more accurate to say that the life they have while waiting sucks.
Depends. Not getting laid kinda sucks at times but it also means you got your freedom. Taking school/job aside (currently ain't doing anything real at all), I can get up whenever I want (usually that would be about 12:00) and generally do whatever I want too. Looking at it objectively, it ain't too bad at all.
Maybe this stems from early childhood development where learning the trivia taught to them in school ("Washington was the first president of the U.S." or "2+2=4") came so easy to them that they determined that they probably didn't need to apply themselves to get anything they wanted.

Note that I'm non native English speaker and while reading newspaper articles in well respected papers (the ones where you would expect the writers to know their language) I'll usually find a few sentences that are just plain wrong. Now don't get me wrong, I don't bash people for not speaking a language perfectly but it's rather frustrating not to be able to talk to someone like you usually do because (s)he simply lacks the vocab or background to understand it.

As for Sharon Stone being actress: she has the looks and it pays well and I'd say it's mostly a very interesting job (if you make it). Whether she is smarter than me or not is of little relevance here (and yes, I've met girls that were smarter than me but hardly interesting to talk to).

It's not their fault that Intel can't build CPUs with an as good per clock performance and educating customers that MHz aint everything is impossible as we know. Furthermore, they also give adjusted their ratings when Intel was bumping FSB or RAM clock.
As to 64bit CPU being vapor, I really don't think so. The fact that you can't yet afford it doesn't mean it ain't shipping. One of our consulting customers just got two dual Opterons and from all I hear, they kick ass (they rightly didn't let me mess around with them as it is far from my being my job).
Just because they did the research means nothing because they would not have been able to do it in the first place without government grants.
I think they could care less for the odd million research grant considering we're talking about 100s of millions here. Free money they take but if they don't get it, they'll still develop the high profile medicaments. Now the problem starts with highly specialized treatments that still are very expensive to find. There are treatments where the drugs alone run 1mio US a year because only very very few people actually have that disease and the pharma corp needs to recoup the costs.
I think Novartis usually posts about 15 to 20% gross margin, meaning they could lower their prices somewhat, but price gouging they aren't. Not as badly as people like MS at least.
I'm not entirely sure about the lung issue these days. I mean you usually smoke filter cigarettes as opposed to unfiltered pot (in Europe it's common to mix pot with tobacco as today's indoor strains are highly potent, 15% THC is well within normal limits!).
I'll grant you that the frequency of use is *usually* lower (I know one or two counter examples).
As to the amplifier thingy: in a way it's true. Then again, if you're really depressive pot can still help in a way. While not making you feel any better, it certainly will let you escape reality for a few hours which is always welcome. And BTW the reason most people drink if they drink to get drunk.

The article claims that Dell is selling the MP2100 DLP unit at 999 US (gimme one of those at that price!), however, on Dell's website, they go for 1299$. Or is this one of Dell's usual tricks where you first have to figure out how to get it cheaper?

The athlon is rated to be safely running at 85 C. Mine always runs at 60 because of low noise components (GOOD heatsink but still) and I couldn't care less for it.
You must be kidding me to take a daemon that runs in Kernel for anything like realworld HTTPd (which in most cases would mean Apache) performance.

It's more of a mood amplifier than a mood changer (the ONE thing drug propaganda has right aside of the fact that it is bad for your lungs but if you're like I was (still am probably) you could care less about physical impairment it causes).
