  1. Re:Is this really that supprising? on Harry Potter with Guns · · Score: 1

or maybe just because it was a FUN movie to watch. After all, we geeks can't swing the popularity polls of movies that much. I remember when it first came out, I liked it for 2 reasons really, violence and cool special effects. that's the secret to this movie, we have the lobby scene, the perfect blend of slow motion and hong-kong like fighting, fused with guns galore, and finished with a really kick-ass fire. And the whole bullet time thing didn't hurt.

not entirely original. Those questions have been asked by philosophers of every major civilaization. In addition, much of the inspiration for their movies came from other films (ie: Ghost in the Shell, which questions the difference between man and machine, and man's perception of reality and his memories.)

I'm not sure whether the parent post is funny, insightful, or redundant. Hell, why not all three...

OR, the boycott just begins that day. All we have to wait to do is for someone to sneak a camera into the movie, then go to sharereactor.com and look at the recent releases. Wouldn't it be funny if opening weekend didn't turn a huge profit, and they blame pirates.

I agreed with you whole-heartedly, until you mentioned blade runner. That is the single most boring sci-fi I have ever had the displeasure to watch. Even Harrison Ford said that the movie sucked. The only reason that movie was ever even remotely popluar was because it was eye candy. The plot was thin, the little "mysteries" were blindingly obvious, and the little bits of action that were thrown in were limited, sporatic, and totaly pathetic. In contrast to blade runner, the matrix is a goddly movie.

Even worse, watch the tv-edit version. It removes the most gruesome shots and the nudity. After that is gone, you have eye candy (which by todays standards isn't eye-candy at all), poor narration (Ford went into the recording studio one day, did the narration ten times and left, and they never went and fixed it), and Ford stubling from bar to bar, muttering to himself.

The androids were cool though, but that can't carry the movie.

Well, they could first stop here. That was a favorite of mine for breaking web filters. I also had an app that would record keystrokes, and then just make up some excuse for them having to use the master account. Once I had their password, I could adjust the levels. Now, I didn't do this to find porn, I did it because the filters prevented you from using the net connection for anything but its pre-approved list, which excluded mozilla, and my secret collection of uber-violent games, but that's a different story.

and apparently your childhood isn't the only thing that's broken, but codehappy.net is too.

a while back there was the article about how to turn a floppy disk into the enterprise from star trek (why i even bothered to clarify that here is beyond me). It was kinda gay, but a lot of people that day put up pictures of their attempts at it. It was cool because everyone has a spare floppy disk, and many a /.er likes star trek. in the end, i found i actually enjoyed the article, simply because people were doing it and posting pictures. Now this one, i'm not going to see a picture of your attempt, and (as you mentioned) not too many people have trains and a pda and want to do this (the enterprise thing took five minutes).

but who am i to rant and rave about the poor quality of these articles? after all, i'm only here because i'm wasting a little time right now. and if it was realy that bad, i'd just leave, the internet is a big place.

Me, when i download the lastest episode of Naruto ( i wait a day or two till after its release, just to avoid the initial congestion ), i download at about 170kbs. Since my connection can only reach like 200kbs, and because i have other apps running in the background (emule, an FTP server for my site, and apache; all of which eat precious bandwidth), i can say most definitely that the bit torrent program is not at fault.

It's really for marketing, it makes more sense to just feed them little bits and peices, maybe one level before it's released. maybe. They turn plenty of profit keeping the lid on it. Of course, for those epic games that everyone wants to play (DOOM3), a demo would just kinda ruin it. I wouldn't download a demo for DOOM3, it would just kinda ruin the fun of playing it for the first time once i've boughten it.

on a lighter note, you can easily find the demo on a p2p network. Just search for "full insert game title here", and 90% of those files will be demos.
