The vision of this article seems to be an OS where everything is run by a super-AI version of clippy.
Unless the AI really is that super, how annoying.
If anybody read far enough though, the real point of the article is that if this is ever achieved, it could really be quite scary -
"So before too many of us become overly excited about the prospect of having a PC that totally anticipate our every whim, we ought to consider the consequences of such ability. I don't think there is any question whatsoever that enjoying the fruits of tomorrow's coders will be something truly amazing. However, nothing in life is free. And this includes the right to privacy with our operating systems."
TFA says that "Serotonin is known to play an important role in mood, sleep and sexuality". Can somebody who knows what they're talking about (??) shed some light on the latter?
It may have been simplification for the purposes of the article, since DNA is a familiar term to readers but RNA might not be. Not necessarily the right thing to do, but unfortunately pretty common in scientific news articles that are aimed at the general public.
As for the cells, they probably injected infected cells into recipients, which is exactly what the article says. It didn't say HIV-1 cells it said HIV-1 specific cells.
However, I don't think you should worry too much about user's who you believe are suicidal, and I don't think AOL should be tracking *anybody* down. I could easily imagine doing those searches without seriously wanting to kill myself, which is why this entire situation is scary and does need to be legislated (as you've said).
PS: you included somebody's AIM id in that, bad juju.
Tivo perhaps.. but just because you buy a TV tuner doesn't mean yr in the market for this kind of box. I have a TV tuner that does exactly what I want and is very cheap. I don't need anything else.
I think the demand simply isn't there, I wouldn't blame the technology. The majority of people wouldn't see the point, or understand the possibilities. Many people still struggle with TV remotes...
By and large, people want to spend money on their plasma displays, not "uber-consoles".
This article is over a year old, the poster got it totally wrong. Does anybody have any info on whether the comments are still relevant in the latest IE7? I have no reason to expect that they aren't, but just checking.
It was pretty stupid of Dan Brown to use the "Sir Leigh Teabing" anagram for Leigh/Baigent. It's like acknowledging them without acknowledging them, and he really set the scene for this lawsuit (whether it has merit or not).
Choose SVN over CVS, there are many good reasons for it. Also, you'll get the view cvs part for free, since you can automatically browse the repository over http.
you depressed me too, but that's okay i already was - because i agree with you.
anybody who doesn't is either blind or selfish. and if they want to be selfish that's fine, but at least admit it. i'm a hypocrite in many ways, but at least i admit that.
for all we know, they could be doing it just to mess with our heads and get some discussion happening on slashdot:P oracle has a lot of cash sitting around, these acquisitions are like fun little games to Larry.

But you'd also remember that, under Linux, the Creator uses copy-on-write pages.

Did you RTFA?
'"The HIV-1 specific cells injected into the recipients were the DNA fragments of the virus which don't cause infection," he told Xinhua.'
Mod parent up, it deserves to be seen.

I am surprised, but I'll take your word for it - that's very interesting.
Go the independent hacker!

..and other people feed the trolls.
a mod point, a mod point, my kingdom for a mod point..
Yes windows stability has improved over the years, but it asks you to reboot for the most trivial changes. What a crock.
which is the reason why the sun is mostly T&A (tits and arse, for the uninitiated)
the centre of Australia is a much better option.

I just downloaded and installed it on FC4, via their shell script, and it has a GUI that works just fine.

woops, mod me -1 idiot, that was .max_entries, as mentioned below. mozilla doesn't have the max_total_viewers property.
in mozilla 1.7.3 on linux, mine was set to 50. i'm assuming it had a slightly different meaning then, but haven't looked it up.

There's also the support factor, which managers often see .. but is often of very little practical use. Ah well what can ya do :)
appsolutely!
