As a very intelligent employee of a photo lab, i take offense to that. Machines break constantly, through no fault of the employees. We must fix these, unless we have to call a technician, which can take days. Being a lab tech is very difficult, and definitely not a job for morons. Morons get fired.
We actually thought about that, and had the dean sign a "protection contract" on our behalf (before we revealed that there actually *was* an issue), since he really likes us. Then we showed it to the sysadmin.
My friend and I recently gave a white paper to our school describing all net vulnerabilities. We were able to access attendance and grade records, as well as the faculty folders because they didn't secure one of their servers. Also, there was an "install" folder with copies (serials included!) of all of the install cds for all the programs ever used at our school. Office, Starry Night, the grade program, etc. It was a treasure trove. But, like responsible people, we gave them the white paper. The sysadmin was unaware of any of this.
In the cnet article about the 'net fridge, they mention that soon, the Internet Fridge might be converted to Linux anyway, by the manufacturers. At which point thousands of geeks will either a) Sue them for some odd GPL violation, b) buy millions for no reason, c) complain that it's not using the right distro, or d) bitch about the fact that they have to pay for it at all.:-P (notice the smiley at the end... dont hurt me!)
And the fact that we have to wonder/argue about it at all proves the very point that was modded Troll. The company/product is in decline. If we all used it, we'd all know the latest build numbers, right?
ok, ok.... i realize that may have sounded a little trollish... wasn't my intent. See? I was so soured by recent versions of winamp that it turned me off to the product line in general.
Nullsoft seems to have been in a decline for a long while now... who uses winamp 3 anyway? certainly no one I know. Most people either use WIMP, XMMS or an old version of Winamp. So are we really losing bigtime here?
The Matrix has spawned a new era in pseudo-psychology, it seems. Plato first had this idea many thousands of years ago, in the Allegory of the Cave. A Brief Explanation of the Allegory What the Wachowski Bros. have done is reintroduced the concept of the Cave to society. Unfortunately, these topics have been gone over before, in much more depth than your average Matrix fanboy cares to think about.
There is no way that as a cashier, I could *ever* come up with change involving 18 cent coins. This is not because I am math-ignorant, it's just not easy. I mean, come on! There are really and literally people I work with that misfile names alphabetically. They spell "Customer" "Coustomer." 18 cents wouldnt work.
"as I intend on blogging my cross country trip as it happens and would like to have something to talk about other than the state lines I cross and the number of retreads I dodge."
So talk about the state lines and the number of retards you dodge. (just avoid/. for maximum retard dodge-age).
I think a GPS jammer is a *bad* idea. OK, so the car company doesn't see you were speeding, they see "garbage" reports. So they charge you for using a jammer. Geocachers can't have fun, causing them to stay inside eating Cheese Poofs and reading/. all day. They have a heart attack and die. Planes crash when some yahoo on the plane turns it on. The ignorant public hears about the crashed planes, and thinks GPS itself is to blame. Riots form around everyone who has a GPS, so the few cachers left are killed. Regular hardware geeks are killed. With them gone, the IT profession dies out, causing the death of/.. With no more IT business, civilization slowly grinds to a halt. Don't let those GPS jammers get away with killing us all!
OK, I for one agree with the SC's decision. I've grown up with Disney, and grown up with the Mouse. I really don't want to see what might happen when people who really don't care for the characters or tradition start making derivatives. I don't think anyone can care about Mickey like Walt did. I know that on/., it's really unpopular to like corporations. Especially MS or Disney. But I have to go with Disney on this case. Thoughts?
Is there any news on actual practical applications of these new magnets we've been hearing about? BTW... Discover Magazine had an article on Carbon magnets, quite interesting, because carbon is not *supposed* to be magnetic. Link here. Just my comments...
History is actually from the Greek `istoria. It has no gender reference at all. This is why everyone should learn ancient Greek. :-P

They thanked us profusely, actually. Were very grateful.

WIMP=WMP=Windows Media Player. Kind of a derogatory term for it. :-) Hit up MS's site for more info if you need it.

I shouldn't respond to trolls... but cosmic rays pass through your body too... along with commercial radio, tv, radar, and a host of other EM rays.
