The bad news is that outside of businesses, few people are using it. You can't use it to call other Skype users directly unless they've got a SkypeIn number; they can't call you directly unless they buy Skype credit, which costs them money. SIP to SIP calls are usually free, but even when people use SIP I've never seen anyone publish their SIP contact details. Only ever a PSTN number they've got associated with the SIP account.
There were a lot of people using SipPhone (which was renamed to Gizmo).
Then Google bought the company and killed the SIP service.
Video chat has long been Android's most requested feature, probably for 2 years now. No idea WTF Google has been waiting for this whole time. It should have been there in 2.1.
They needed to wait until Apple did it first so they could copy it.;-)
Isn't it also possible to pay AT&T extra to unlock? I don't know how it is in the US, but here the lock-in is basically to ensure you stick with them long enough to finish paying for the phone. If you choose you can pay your way out of it.
Here's what I don't understand. Let's say you do pay full price for a phone... why is your monthly rate the same as someone who buys a subsidized phone?
ATT will rip you off no matter what you chose.
T-Mobile's unlimited text and data plan (no extra charges for tethering) is $19.99
No, you aren't. You can't even GET an unlocked iPhone for full price in the USA. It's a shame, really. You can go to France or Canada though, and get one. Land of the free!
I had a friend pick up one for me in the Hong Kong Apple Store.
Just popped in my T-Mobile SIM and I was up and running.
Please fall over and die. You are the kind of 'engineer' that holds back all of humanity. There's no reason to not implement IPv6, and 'user unfriendly' may be the very worst excuse, since implementing IPv6 doesn't mean you can support IPv4 too.
Exactly! IPv6 support should "just work" and be transparent to the user.
How may years ago was it that Myspace was the big deal? Less than four I believe. And before that, there was Geocities, and AOL. Facebook may well going the same way eventually.
There are taxes paid on on every salary of every employee, including the CEO's and other exceutive's salaries, which are probably all in the highest bracket. Gains on stocks are taxed, and dividend payouts are taxed as income.
Wasn't it the CEO of GE who said his secretary pays a higher percentage of her salary that he does?
There are lots of loop holes to get out of paying taxes for the rich.
I got this too but I got eBay to ban the seller and paypal to refund me using pictures and data sheet of the offending chips, sadly he came back the day after under another name.
I had AT&T years ago; could never get a signal inside my house. I finally switched to T-Mobile; no problem getting a signal inside my house.
I agree and have had the same experiences.
My factory unlocked iPhone always has signal on T-Mobile when my friends with AT&T locked iPhones have dropped calls and interrupted data connections in same locations.
So, it sounds like this deal between AT and T and T-mobile will mean that AT and T will become a monopoly carrier for anyone who travels frequently outside the US. I wonder whether the FCC and the FTC will take this into consideration before they rubber stamp this deal to go through. Has anyone else had to face this conundrum and found a solution?
Also the reverse as well.
When my friends visit from outside the US, they buy a pay-as-you-go SIM from T-Mobile and have a local US number while they are visiting.
That would impossible here in Brazil due to our consumer laws in two way I can think of: they can't limit the way I use the service (unless I'm doing something illegal) and they can't change a contract term or assign a paid service unilaterally.
What plans/charges are the iPhones sold with in Brazil?
About 4 of the 9 Caprica episodes were good (by most standards...)
Only by really LOW standards.

... saying Lion would be available only through the App Store? No, there wasn't. Stop hyperventiating, folks.
Some folks like making up their own reality.

They needed to wait until Apple did it first so they could copy it. ;-)
We'll see if that continues when T-mobile is officially swallowed up by AT&T. Then it will just be AT&T rates.
Sadly, yes.
Isn't it also possible to pay AT&T extra to unlock? I don't know how it is in the US, but here the lock-in is basically to ensure you stick with them long enough to finish paying for the phone. If you choose you can pay your way out of it.
Neither Apple or ATT will unlock iPhones.
Here's what I don't understand. Let's say you do pay full price for a phone... why is your monthly rate the same as someone who buys a subsidized phone?
ATT will rip you off no matter what you chose.
T-Mobile's unlimited text and data plan (no extra charges for tethering) is $19.99
MUCH cheaper than ATT or Verizon's rates.

Carrier agreements just means paying for iPhones. They cost $640 on average, but the user pays $240 on average and the carrier pays the rest.
The $1K+ per year contract pays for it.

It will never be as big as Orkutt!!!
Also Facebook has a shitton of users.
More like a shitton of marketing accounts.

The scammers operate under multiple accounts.
Most of eBay should be considered a scam.
it's long overdue
could take a month, could take a decade, but if you live on the US West Coast and you have not prepared for the big one, now is the time
The "big one" for the midwest will be a bigger disaster as building codes and public aren't prepared for it.
What is the FCC doing about internet caps?
Nothing while the bribes keep coming in.
That's also why AT&T wanted to buy up T-Mobile. Why let customers go to the remaining national carrier for GSM that provides superior service?
Gotta jack up the prices on T-Moblie customers as well.
Every business function (but IT) are professional liars.
"We can set up the new site under budget."
But just who's phone is it?
In the US, you are renting it from the Verizon/AT&T duopoly.
I had AT&T years ago; could never get a signal inside my house. I finally switched to T-Mobile; no problem getting a signal inside my house.
I agree and have had the same experiences.

So, do we get a new round of AT&T vs. T-Mobile commercials? Does the hot T-Mobile Girl start making out with the AT&T Guy?
Or do we see him trying to woo her?
Who get's to be on top? *giggles*
More like the AT&T guy tying up the T-Mobile girl and raping her.

The only reason I chose T-Mobile was because it wasn't AT&T.
And because it is GSM.
the youtube link cynically removes the way you support the film
Most ISP's throttle P2P connections now.
Watch it now on YouTube or wait for an overnight torrent download?
