Exactly. Even if we're sure it came from hackers in North Korea, the only circumstantial evidence we have that it came from the government is that it was done using computers, which I suspect the average North Korean is too poor to buy. But that is only circumstantial evidence, and does not include, say, Chinese hackers putting a VPN back door in targeting computers sold to the North Korean Military.
Hmm...now that is an interesting idea hiding in there. Say you have a country that has at least one waterfall. Make a centralized blockchain currency, limited to only the government mining it, and base all your government income on mining coins in a mint connected to a waterwheel driven turbine. Eliminate all taxes, new currency gets added to your economy in a hyperinflationary but quasi-predictable way, and all government services are funded forever.
Now that is a dream that might merge my current distributist attitude back with marxism.
It would pay handsomely to buy Bernie and all of his supporters one-way tickets to Venezuela, where they can achieve their version of the American Dream. Leave America to real Americans who know how to work for a living.
And yes, I am aware of the immense difference in my views since I started posting on slashdot, using my online name from college.
The point of the link is that there is already a good deal of competition at the ISP level. Want net neutrality? Buy the bandwidth that gives it to you.
Not so much with these monopolistic service providers.
I actually *bought at the wrong time*. The next day, that bitcoin was worth $.20. I totally forgot about it until it was worth $9000, and by then, well, the wallet is likely on one of four hard drives in my desk drawer, all of which apparently either have crashed heads or I bought a really bad PATA/SATA to USB interface off of Amazon.
One of those is the SATA from my Iomega network drive whose network card went bad. It had all of my backups from that era on it.
You mean the ones that the United States Taxpayer is currently paying to bring in as refugees at a rate of 50,000 people a year? I don't see any reason to do that either.
Ambient energy is a huge wild west free market right now. And you only get MORE freedom by doing a year long environment study, choosing the technologies that fit your climate, and building/harvesting energy from that climate.
In the end, we all do, through inflation.
In fact, I consider that not a half bad idea. If it works, governments should retire debt and end income taxes by imposing measured money inflation.
It worked for Zimbabwe, didn't it?
Thank you for the only comment in this article worth my time to read.

That part is coming, that's why they just lowered the tax brackets and changed withholding so that you have more takehome pay

More like how Stalin registered all the Jews and sent the useless ones to Siberia.
This isn't an act of a friendly government
Wait....uh, different suite?

Ah, so even Putin recognized that facebook is a weapon, but you can't?
Pot, Kettle, Black.
Local ISPs have competition these days.
Good luck trying to avoid these four.
Agreed. And Thank you for Winning the Prize of being the first person to comment on this *AFTER* reading the link.
Wasn't the argument that Facebook Maximized evil by allowing Trump to be elected?
Didn't understand the argument about competition, did you? Or maybe you failed to click on the link.
Clearly failed to click on the link.
Forget about the ISPs, the big players are Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. Those four can do more for censorship of the internet than any ISP can.
Cleanup means you stop evolution. Let the species who can adapt do the cleanup.
Also, most sandy beaches were once former forest and swampland. Or did you think the Earth never changed?
Heck, I know of a beach within 200 miles of my house that was a part of the Columbia River in 1820.
So remove the industrial infrastructure from the coasts. Turn it into reefs, then fish the reefs.....
And the United States has killed 60 million people since 1973, just on the Sexual Revolution alone.

This. When the rich elite abandon air travel, that's when we will know there is a crisis, not before.
Mod Parent Up. This is exactly right.
