Have you actually done any database app upgrade/conversions? I'll agree that the DATA conversion is usually pretty straight forward (usually, there are some pretty archaic and unsupported db systems out there) but it's the actual application that ends up being the bitch. Converting some huge Foxpro or Clipper app to a WebApp+Oracle can be horrible. These are the huge old apps that only some old-timers at the company use but don't really know much about it, have poor documentation of both code and business logic and have gone through lots of hack revisions to just get something to work or add a new feature. It's just great when you ask to talk with the guy who programmed the system and the answer is either he retired in 1987 or died 10 years ago. Then the real kicker is when you finally get things figured out and get the thing ported, everyone comes up with new ideas for it and changes they think should have been made decades ago.
Granted this is more a general code updating/porting problem (ok, it's a rant), but when talking about old dBase related systems I have never run across a situation where a business wanted just the data updated.
And that is why fast food restaurants have those abomination super-size drinks that come in cups (or barrels) that have tiny bases and huge tops. The damn things tip over unless they are in anything but a perfectly sized cup holder, which doesn't include the drink carriers the same restaurants use.
I should sue the fast food restaurants. God only knows that I can't resist myself from ordering everything mega-calorie sized.
My experience is that the quality is better than an average cell phone call but not quite as 'comfortable' as a traditional phone to the ear.
That's because all VOIP uses solid state technology that creates a harsh sound. If someone would create a vacuum tube VOIP I'm sure the sound would be much 'warmer';).
I think if they are going to be putting in UPS's in all of the customer switch-over points (demarc's) then I should be getting in the gel cell battery distribution business. From my experience at work and at home, 50% of the sealed lead acid batteries in a UPS fail shortly after a year and the rest fail within 2-3 years.
I can just imagine the complaints people have when the power goes out and then the UPS that hasn't been used in a couple of years fails shortly after. There is an advantage to the POTS telephone system in that most of the equipment that needs servicing or PM resides in couple of switching offices and not distributed in each home.
I agree with that assesment, but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying to attain. I think a lot of people would be better off if they placed more importance on saving and investing instead of going into debt to finance big screen TV's, a new car every 3 years and a house big enough for 4 families to live in. Maybe people are just following the example of the US federal government.
It's not that bad. I make approx. 48k a year and support my wife (a stay-at-home mom) and my two young children. I do have to budget very efficiently but I still have extra to put some in the 401k and eat out 1 or 2 times a week. I do try to keep my debt as low as possible (mortgage and student loans, maybe a vehicle loan, definitely NOT credit cards). The secret is to learn to live without all the latest and greatest, stay away from having a balance on the credit cards and learn the value of sweat equity. My life may not always be 'comfortable', but idle hands are the tools of the devil.
Which OTA channel broadcasts 'the guide'?
That sounds like a Scientology term.
Maybe 'Clickit Ritecheer' would be more appropriate for those segments of the population?
but come on; dBase to SQL is a no-brainer.

No, just make the fools who can handle 2D revert to 1D travel. It makes them much easier to manuever around for the spatially gifted.
Not to mention, Cracker kinda implies that they're all white.. doesn't it? :P
No, the phrase "cracker ass cracker" implies someone is white.

I don't think it's Packet8's fault. All my tech support calls that get routed to India are abysmal and they are over a POTS line ;-).
How do you think we got here? Maybe we just out lived our Alien Biologist Overlords.
But I haven't seen an analog watch that can play Pacman yet.
Nah, make a wire-wrap version of a modern day motherboard.
I'll let you have my presidential vote this November if you pay my federal taxes for this year. Maybe I should sell my vote on E-Bay.
Or maybe not.
And all those menacing government agents wielding deadly walkie-talkies.
If you liked Rocky IV, go rent Rockey III. Any movie that has both Hulk Hogan and Mr. T just has to rock.
Yo Adrienne, Mr. T ate my BALLS!!
Using Apple laptops of course.

Look at tubgirl and you'll never think of goatse again.
So DID Americans at one point in history
Henry Ford
So when half the wind generators aren't running you still have 2/3 (150% down to 100%) the electricity production? I'm not following your math.
Switch your major to politics/political theory. I don't think politicians have much worry of being downsized or outsourced.
Great example: Marion Barry
Oh come on, there are lots of jobs out there for people with lots of experience. Just look in your local paper.
.Net. Starting salary, 7.50 - 9.50 / hour.
Help Wanted: Senior programmer/developer with
15-20 years experience in web programming and
particularly when a numerically, tecnologically and resource superior chinese armed force appears on the horizon
How much do those chinese armed forces charge? Sounds like another great opportunity to outsource.
