  1. In Soviet Canada on Canadian Gov't Gives Big Bucks to Copyright Lobby · · Score: 4, Interesting

    3.2.1.Joke

In Soviet Canada the Government pays the lobbies to influence Law.

    Joking aside;

Another thing happened just recently in my neck of the woods that I am really pissed about.
I live in Windsor, Ontario (Across the river from Detroit, Michigan). This past week the 'Hell's Angels' motorcycle club/gang/mafia was in town. The police setup checkpoints on the roads (that they knew the bikers would be traveling along {ingress and egress fromthe club-house}) and took the drivers license + insurance documents of EVERYBODY that drove on these public roads.

The reason: They HOPED to catch some of the bikers that had arrest warrents in other parts of the country!

I was/am LIVID. I wrote the newspaper; called the local radio station, complained to the Local members of Parliment.
We are 1 step away from East-Block communist oppression. I am surprised that they didn't just click thier Jack-Boots and say "Papers! Please!"

**The Hells Angels are considered the largest (and now ONLY) organized crime syndicate in Canada.

I live in Canada. I like hockey & (American) Football (NFL/CFL).
I hate soccer for the same reasons I hate basketball and golf.
It is slow, boring and from the looks of things involves very little strategy.

Here is my impression of all soccer & basketball games I have ever seen:
"Smith steals the ball, weaves his way through traffic, shoots AND SCORES!!"
"Adams passes the ball to Jones, Jones weaves his way through traffic, shoots AND SCORES!!" ... ad infinitum ....

Basketball: this will happen 100 times in a game.
Soccer: this will happen 4 times in a game.

run down the field/court, shoot, score.
    Rinse, Lather, Repeat.
Soccer seems to maintain a frenetic pace only matched by Golf.
Sorry but it's not for me.

    1) It gives Google _more_ of an incentive to develop GPay and Googles Ebay (G-Bay?).
    2) Now all 3 companies that we love to hate are all in one convient package (Pay-Pal, Ebay, MS)

    This is Scary because:
Given the excellent security record that Microsoft OSs' have do we really want pay-pal tied into the OS? OR even worse if Microsoft thinks* you are not using a "Geniune" copy of it's OS, will it put a lock you your paypal account and/or deduct the amount straight from your account.
AND EVEN WORSE: This will make it _very_ easy for MS to start charging $xx/(day/week/month) for using Windows.

OMG the sky is falling! =)

    not usually.

    Debian is preferred because
    (a) "apt-get" makes life so blindingly simple that you don't need to worry about 90% of the hassels that come with other distros (rpm-hell anyone?)
    (b) It's stable
    (c) "It Just Works!" (tm)

Ubuntu is: ALL the best of Debain + Quicker updates.
How long did it take for Debain to support SATA in the stable release? Too damn long!

Ubuntu is not totally user friendly, ie it wasn't untill Dapper that there was a GUI for setting up a pppoe internet connection. (try telling Mom to: open a terminal, type pppoe-conf, and follow the prompts.)
    Sounds great on paper.

My mom, Uncle x2, wife, Mother & Father in-laws, and CLIENTS all run Ubuntu because it is easier for me to manage/admin.
I'm not a n00b. I got desperately tired of waiting for Debian Stable. Now I have all the good of Debian + modern packages.
