but I can't figure out how to see what is available prior to signing up)
Hmmm, seems like they really, really want you to sign up for that free trial now. Try this link to browse emusic collection before you do anything else.
And no, they don't have a lot of popular music. But they do have a massive collection of blues, jazz and alternative labels. It's a very good collection of music for many people. It may not fit everyones needs, but they are really in a niche market anyway, and they work very well within that niche. I am a subscriber and highly recommend emusic.
'it's a VPN that you had no right to know about' is a valid defense?
If I'm breaking the law then it's the job of a law enforcement agency to investigate, not some vigilante group. If I'm on a private network you have no right to interfere. If you think I'm doing something wrong then go to the proper authority. I can't just wander into my neighbors house becuase I think he's doing something illegal, but I can report that neighbors suspicious activity to the authorities.
I believe that the RIAA is within their rights to stop illegal file sharing, but they should use the proper channels. They *should* have no more power than any citizen.
No, I don't see. Because the part they aren't releasing is a removal tool, which will only help if the user is already infected. As has been said, if you have up-to-date virus protection you should be ok. This is not a vuln in a product, this is the user running an executable. If you get infected there are several free avenues for removing the virus. But yeah, boo Micro$oft. Teh r da evul.
Logistics, management and coordination would be a nightmare.
um, the National Guard is an organization designed with logistics, management and coordination in mind. National Guard units get deployed all over the world in fact. They are mobile and I'd say they likely have a very good idea of what units have the required training, as that would be critical tactical information.
no clear high level chain of command. (I'm pretty sure theres no General of the National Guard.)
The National Guard is part of the Army. They probably have the most structured chain of command in the world. You are right about not having a general though, he's just a Lt. General (Lieutenant General Clyde A. Vaughn
Encourage them how? Currently, there are some pretty lax rules concerning tld's, will there be stricter enforcement with.xxx? Will there be penalties for displaying certain material under a.com? Who deceides what material is ok for which tld?
"It has been confirmed that bad people are working on this (compromising IOS). The right thing to do here is to make sure that everyone knows that it's vulnerable."
The bad guys already know about this, Lynn believes it's time the rest of us found out.
Same thing here, however, what most seem to be missing is that you don't just get money from nowhere. The company you got laid off from has to pay the unemployment, so you can bet if someone who is not unemployed files against a given company, that company is going to appeal the unemployment.
Another thing that I don't think has been pointed out: Michael Alter is the president of SurePayroll, it says so right there at the top of TFA. Gosh, I wonder if SurePayroll might be offering some type of anti-fraud software? I bet they soon will be if they aren't now.
I work for my states unemployment compenstation dept.
Many people make the mistake of beleiving unemployment comes from taxes they pay. This is not true, it comes from the unemployment insurance that company pays, so you are absolutely correct, if the fake company didn't pay into unemployment you cannot receive any benefits.
Also, what BaudKarma says above is true, "Having you list the information yourself is probably done to help verify your identity." We have a database of every legitimate employer you have worked for because they are required to provide that information. In most cases, every question you answer during unemployment is already known by the system, it's just being confirmed and verified.
This entire article is bogus, at least from the standpoint of my state. There is no way this type of fraud could happen. There are cases of unemployment fraud, but what this article is describing I would say is not a real issue.
It also sounds to me like all the subtle stuff that Americans wouldn't get anyway (yes, I'm being sarcastic and kind of pissy about it) was smoothed over
Yeah, and the sad part is I think it worked. I saw the movie last night and, like most, I was prepared for something horrible. It wasn't bad, all the jokes were watered down and the romance part was crap, but overall, I thought they did a good job.
One thing I noticed though, was that lots of people were laughing and most people seemed to really like it. I do think much of the absurdity in the books was either left out, or watered down so much you couldn't see it.
It'll probably be a hit and they will make a sequel that plays up the romance even more. Just dreadful. Can you tell I'm depressed?
A professional in a position of power is still subject to human nature. I'm not condoning the actions, I'm just saying it's not indicative of a problem with the judicial system, which is what these two dumbass's want us to think.
no, it's not 'freedom has a bad day', it's one person that you pissed off and they reacted. Just like when you go to McDonalds and make fun of the kid flipping burgers and then he spits in your food. That one individual responded to your actions. McDonalds didn't have a bad day.
If someone is an asshole to me, I'm much more likely to be an asshole back to them. If I'm a cop or someone in an authority role, that could be bad news for the other party.
In reality, most people respond to negativity with more negativity, that's just the way it is. It might be wrong, but it is reality. So what I'm saying is, if your a dick, don't be surprised with people act like dicks right back at you.
1. Does it work well? (not as well as many others)
Seems to work about as well as Spybot or Adaware, it does miss a few things, but hey - IT'S BETA.
2. Does it uninstall cleanly? (HA!)
um, yes. It does.
3. How much does it cost for support (Better put, IS support even reasonably AVAILABLE for it?)
Well, currently it's free and for support they have a technet section and freely available newsgroups with actual M$ employees responding to questions and bug reports.
As far as cost & support, it appears that it will be free to home users but probably licensed for business use.
Good thing they weren't making fun of Police Officers in front of a Police Station or while in one.;)
A friend of mine walked out of a bar one night, he had been drinking, but was not leagally drunk. A police officer was standing outside the bar, my friend turns to him as he is walking to his car and says "have a good night... pig."
Guess what. My friend spent the night in jail. The charges were eventually dropped, but that didn't change the fact that he spent a night in jail. He had a legal right to say anything he wanted, but in reality, if your a dick to an authority figure it's not likely they are going tip their hat and wish you well.
Moral of the story... don't be a dick.
I'm not a fan of lawyers and it seems obvious to me that our judicial system has flaws, but standing outside the court and making fun of lawyers doesn't seem to be the most productive way to fix anything.
It's basically a way to download shows from BBC and watch them on whatever device you want (well, sort of, you have to have special software apparently and it's only for BBC staffers right now, but it's a good start).
so ... where do you keep the off-site backups?
Yes! And we must protect a blind persons ability to buy pot. I mean, they could go even more blind!

Good news, everyone! There's a report on /. with some very bad news!
I have the entire collection of reversible Star Wars watches from Burger King. And I wear them.
SANS Internet Storm Center says it's fixed. Seems pretty silly.
Do you see what I'm getting at?
No, I don't see. Because the part they aren't releasing is a removal tool, which will only help if the user is already infected. Um, you don't extract semen from cows. That would be bulls. And I don't want to know why your friend had her arm up a bulls ass. ;)

But it only became "wide open" with the public disclosure of exactly how to exploit it.
He used an already patched exploit to show the vuln. He only showed how easy it would be were you to find a new, unpatched exploit.
Also, from an interview at security focus

I sometimes think that Lexis Nexis is the Matrix
I thought the Matrix was the matrix. But I get so confused with all this personal data floating around everywhere.
Madden himself is getting old
Madden actually died 5 years ago, what you see on TV is just a hologram developed by EA.
Soon many of the fans playing the game won't even know who Madden is
Doesn't matter, I hear EA is actually in talks with the NFL to change the name of the game itself to Madden.
As John himself would say, "Boom! Sega didn't see that coming!"
