    Well, not directly, but if you start to understand that what is written by lao tse and dschung dsi, it is obvious that they found that all religions are equal, and it is all taoism.

    Taoism in this form is more a state of mind as a religion, no churches and so forth.

    But every religion should be a state of mind for the person.

    (it is not easy to write about believs and religion in a foreign language for me)

    May have to do with the devs coding/project background.

    Unlike C/C++ projects one realeses the projects as jars (compiled) in the java world.
    I have yet to see a source only java project, which the (end) user has to compile him self.

    I think this has to do with the "write once, run everywhere" mantra.
    Could be an issue with the userbase too.

    Truth is that x.org is not separated into base/libs/fonts/drivers/server/apps/whatever packages.
    X.org is just one big package at the moment,
    but the maintainers will breakup the big package into many smaller ones.

    That way, I can install and use X applications on my headless (web)server over ssh, whithout having to install an X server on the server.

    Debian will swith to x.org as soon as the split stabilises.

    (you might be right on your timeframe forecast)

    I think you presume falsly.
    Many of "us" linux veterans don't see linux as a end it all world domination solution.
    It is _the_ solution for my problems and work needs.
    _You_ would have less headaches if you would use it too.
    But I'm not going to shove it down your throat.
    I know that quality will prevail, but it might take a few years.
    That's ok, I've got tons of time for the rest of the world to realise their errors :-)

    BTW:
    Many of the "simple" wishes like "having one way to instal software on all distro's" might look like a good idea, and not to difficult to do.

    Same goes for "have an software installation piggyback all it depencies"

    There are some real good thechnical reasons for both these things being the way it is.
    But to recognise this you must look under the hood.
    Not everybody likes doing that, and not every body should bother trying, that's ok.

    But if your engineer says "No, this way is better in the long run." you better accept it, or look for some other Distro/OS.

    Not listening to the engineers, but doing what the sales/advertisig departments thinks is a good idea is exactly what windows got where it is today: a dead end.

    It looks like this is an unsolved problem for about six years.
    If I had any kind of dicision to make here,
    I would drop it like a hot potato, wouldn't touch it with a stick, and wouldn't do business with _that_ company ever again. This is plain ridiculous.

    "Admin privilidges to do some userspace debugging" (HA!), I would never have thought of that one.

    Makes you wonder what other system component are secretly running with admin priviledges because "it could not be done any other way"

    I have allways "known for a fact" that it is allowed to pass on the left _or_ right lane in the USA.
    (I am from germany, and have only spent 2 holidays in the US)

    Is this not true, or is it only alowed in some states?

    Could somebody please confirm this, or is this some kind of FUD from the linux league?

    If this it is true, it is the most idiotic thing I read about microsoft software in a long time.

    I didn't bother to read the rest after reading this in the first paragraph:

    yes, but it works very well.

    For linux (opensource) development, it is completly bogus to be binary compatible, just do a recompile when needed.

    Hardware vendors don't want to open up their drivers.

    So you just meet in the the middle, the hardware vendor build an BAPI stable driver (that's their problem) and an interface to it.
    You recompile the intrerface, problem solved.

    This is a very good real world example for the "interface pattern".

    I think there will be no alternative.

    Thats why most networks use a share ratio > 0.6,
    getting over 0.6 on one account (not per file) is very easy to achive, if you want.

    OTOH:
    After I downloaded something I allways check the seeder/leecher ratio, the less seeders there are, the longer I leave the torrent open.
    If there are more seeders than leecher, I'm out..

    So the whole thing cannot be done, if the boss opens ms-word, writes his name in the document his secretary gave him, safes the document, and signs _this_ document only.

    So if you sign some document, be sure to have "produced" it yourself.

    Is this correct?

    No, I use "Strip" for my palm.
    Passwords are only revealed if I type in my 12 char long passphrase.
    Because I sync my plam at home and at work (very good for keeping addresses and calander in sync)
    Now if some mugs my palm, he cannot access my passwords (take a looong tim eto bruteforce it)
    And I just grab any other palm (they are pretty cheap on ebay now) and do a sync, problem solved.

    Math test in school should not be about the correct answer as an end, but only about the way to the answer. Don't confuse math with simple calculs (? eg. addition substraction multiplication and division) calculus should be mastered, but there should be no need for a calculator either.

    In math, the teacher should write the test in such a way that only "simple" numbers are used, so there will be no need for a calculator.
    By simple numbers I mean "N" "Q" and all (square)-root numbers.

    There should be no need to do any decimal point calculus in math. Leave this to the physics course, and yes, they can use a calculator as much as they want. (after they learned to do some form of precision math/calculus)

    Regetably math is teached the wrong way around in allmost every school I know.

    You should _read_ those EULA's before you click through on install.
    You spezificaly allowed Microsoft to alter installed Microsoft components "at will" through their updates.

    In the case of installed software, microsoft "owns" your box, and can pretty much do what ever they like.

    You bought a licence to use a copy of their software, you don't own the software.
    The install cd as a medium is yours, the software isn't.
    As long as microsoft lets you run Windows, with whatever capabilities it has today, they fulfill their part of the contract.
    If you alter their software, you broke your part of the contract.

    I really think this is fair on the part of microsoft, but I don't like it.
    That's why I don't give them any money, and have none of their products installed on my pc.

    That would be perfectly OK for me personaly, because I'm not at all interessted in the current top10 movies or music.

    As long as I can get my hands on my favorite series (80 and 90 stuff) and some odd (old) mp3's I'm happy.

    Sharing a movie wich is not released on dvd, but still in the theatres is a crime. (end of story)

    Me sharing an audio cd with some friends is stricktly legal here i Germany, I can't understand why sharing said cd over BT should be an exception of the law.

    You should try moving your build directory onto tmpfs for compiling, thats a real speed up.

    The MDI and SDI implementation in Excel 2K (and others) are severly broken.
    I can sometimes see 3 excel instances on the taskbar, while only 2 are actualy there.

    Opening a new document in Excel behaves differently from opening from explorer.

    When using multiple Excel instances/windows, clicking "the X" to close _this_ window closes _all_ excel windows.

    This total random behaviour has been driving me nuts. (But at work, I'm stuck with it)

    MDI and SDI sound pretty cool, but the MS implemtation is as allways: buggy and braindead.

    Microsoft cannot use magenta in this product, because the german Telecom (T-online, T-mobile, T-whatever) has trademarket, copyrighted and likely patented the use of magenta in the Information Technology sector.

    (This is true in Germany, but I think they pushed this thing world wide)
