    As common with alot of UK ISPs, I'm in the UK but on the IP address pool for their EU backbone link so therefore have an IP address that resolves as a German one.

    So what law do they try and prosecute me under, British, German or European?

    And would a judge manage to keep a straight face as the **AA tried to convince him that they hold any importance outside the US?

    It's called Free Speech. You may want to talk to your grandparents about it as many millions of their generation died to protect the right to it.

    Jesus Christ, is your economy in that bad a state? Christ, ING Direct in the UK is paying 4.5% and that's considered not that good with some current accounts offering 6% and the average online savings account being in the mid 5% range.

    The article is self-contradictory as to whether the case was settled in or out of court.

    I'll assume you're not British and not familiar with Small Claims Courts. The company was found guilty. There was to be a later hearing to determine the amount of compensation awarded. The company offered a figure before the later hearing and the claimant accepted it.

    Also at Small Claims Court in the UK, if one of the parties doesn't turn up to the hearing, judgement is automatically awarded against them whether they're the claimant or the defendent. Which is bloody brilliant because it means that if a company in the South East of England screws me, I can take them to a local Small Claims Court, which is over 300 miles away from them, and if they don't turn up, I've won. If they don;t pay, I can then go back for a warrant, have bailiffs seize their property (at a cost of £100+ per time) and auction it, returning time and time again until not only is the judgement satisfied but the bailiffs fees too.

    Actually, it's a very well thought out one. We also have others here such as a the Telephone Preference Service where you can register that you don't want sales calls and if a company subsequently cold calls, you can report them and have them fined.

    Because it only cost him £30 to file the claim and he was able to pursue it without legal representation. Had it gone to a higher court, the costs would have spiralled and had he lost, he could end up with not only his huge legal bill to pay but the defendants. This way, he's managed to see if it works and it's cost him the price of a few gallons of petrol.

    Wonder if this'll get the U.S Govt to put NASA where it should be. I hope so. It's been a LONG time since there was any frontiers pushed - the US Space Programme seems happy just ticking along instead of pushing the boundaries as it did in the 60's and 70's.

    Fuck me, why are they posting this as news? I learned about this when I was a kid.

    UK Ordinance Survey maps have shown the annual magnetic north change for donkeys years.

    Anyone who knows anything about map reading knows that the Magnetic vs Grid North increases a couple of degrees every year. When taking a bearing off a map, you do a grid to mag conversion where you add/subtract the number given for the magnetic variation multiplied by the number of years since the map was produced.

    Put it on, gave it a try, took it off. Brought the system to a crawl and Firefox mysteriously stopped being able to get any data from the net even though the firewall showed it as allowed.

    It's OK for newbies as it also reminds them to backup and defrag too. Also it turns the Windows Firewall into a proper one.

    Think I'll stick with NOD32 though.

    YOU COMPLETELY CLUELESS CUNT. Windows 95/98 was running on computers long before Linux was even released. Windows 95 ran happily on a P100 with 32MB of RAM. And that's with a fully featured desktop, not a UI that looks like a throwback to the QEMM days.

    What the hell is this plant pot talking about? 64MB and a P2 were GOOD SPECS for a Windows 98SE system. Win98SE with 64MB flew. Moreover, you didn't have to suffer a crap UI either like Damn Small Linux has. In my opinion, all Damn Small Linux proves is how shit Linux is on low spec machines unless you don't mind having an extremely basic UI.

    If its got OpenGL graphics option such as the original HL, my experience is that it runs faster on Cedega. If its DX, it runs a bit slower. Cedega 4.xx also runs in about DX7 in regard to effects in HL2 but PS 1.4 should fix all of that.

    If you look at the system details in that article, all it does is prove Linux has hardware compatibility out of the box with stuff that is two or three years out of date.

    The article is a load of rubbish. Perhaps if they'd bothered using current hardware such as an AMD64/nVIDIA 6xxx and wireless network card then it might have been relevent. As it is it is a nothing more than "NEWSFLASH: Linux supports out of date hardware."

    Is that the same military who have had more soldiers killed after their "victory" in Iraq, repeatedly show an inability to find Bin Laden, who got their arses handed to them in Vietnam/Korea/Somalia and who missed the blindingly obvious 9/11 build up? The same military who cannot recruit people because your countrymen are too scared they might end up in Iraq - a conflict you apparently won?

    Oh but you can get it for free!!! Very good, asuming that a)The person wants to give up their paid for/bundled MS Office app that works as they want and has worldwide compatilibility or b) They have the know how to download a file, unzip the contents to a folder, find the setup executable and run it, or c) They're on dialup so it takes them 2 days to download an application to open a single document.
