    I got pissed when I found that my extensive VHS collection would not work in my DVD player. WTF? DVD is supposed to be better, right? Those bastards at Samsung are screwing me!

    Apple have always been a hardware oriented company, and to the best of my knowledge have never claimed anything else. And why would they really care about 'screwing' Linux?

    What I suspect you are really saying is that you would like to run OS X but don't want to to shell out the cash to buy the required hardware. What you fail to realise is that a soon as you take OS X and make it available on the huge variety of Intel-based platforms, it does not "Just Work!" anymore. Any amount of time spent trying to find the right drivers for Linux or Windows will tell you that. There is a lot to be said for having control of the OS and the hardware on which it runs.

    If you want OS X, get a job and get a Mac like the rest of us had to.

    ...that this guy is apparently so keen on tabbed browsing, yet there is no sign of this on the horizon for Safari. Personally, I like the clean look of Safari, but I wonder if anyone has any insight as to why it never went the tabbed route.

    This is the only way of maintaining a steady (I nearly said 'healthy') geek population. Think of it as artificial insemination on a state-wide level. The distribution of iBooks is a counter-measure against natural selection. The underlying OS is not called 'Darwin' by accident you know. That's my conspiracy theory, anyway.

    I'm in Eastern Canada, and it's currently only 1:15 p.m. Now, considering that the prices quoted in the article were in U.S. Dollars, something is very wrong. Am I missing something here? What time zone Is Ms. Rosencrance in? Let's assume it was a typo and that she was not able to jump two hours into the future.

    BTW, I just tried Safari (Mac) & IE (Mac & Win) on the U.S. site and got quoted $80.98. Maybe if I wait until 2;40 p.m. I'll get it cheaper ???

    Tut tut tut. Take a hint from an old pro, sonny. Turn off the computer and leave it turned off. If you like compiling code that much, go and find a job where not only will they pay you to persue your interest, but they will supply some decent kit to do so. With the cash you save on the computer, you can have a life.

    In phase one, the only details that will be entered are name, address and Meter Point Asset Number - the number in the corner of every household electricity bill which is unique to that property
    Correct me if I'm wrong, but an electricity meter is hardly unique to an individual household. I have lived in flats in the UK where fuel bills were included as a percentage of the rent, and only one set of meters existed for the entire building (30-40 distinct residences)

    OK, I confess. I didn't even bother to read the article, and will probably be ridiculed for not being up-to-date with hot new technologies (AKA 'fads'). I just skimmed through Verity Stobs' story and groaned. It seems that every few months there emerges a new programming language/methodology. Maybe, instead of devoting so much time to inventing new tools, people should invest their energy into learning to use the existing stuff properly. I wonder how many peoples resumés are littered with long-dead languages that 'seemed cool at the time'.

    P.S. I don't dress fashionably either, prefering to save valuable beer money.
