  1. From the 'Duh' file... on MS admits Newsbot Biased Towards MSNBC · · Score: 4, Insightful

I guess on slow news days the editors here pull out any kind of MS story they can find to try and stir up the zealots. C'mon guys, would you go into a Ford dealership and expect the salesman to try to sell you a Chevrolet?

  2. Okay, I'm confused... on New Linux Kernel Crash-Exploit discovered · · Score: 5, Funny

I thought Monday's were supposed to be Windows patch days, Tuesdays were for Linux, Wednesday was Apache, Thursday was Windows again, Friday was SSH...

  10. Uh huh... on Universal Music To Cut CD Prices · · Score: 0, Flamebait
"It makes me hope the other giants will follow suit, and wonder if the music industry is finally listening to some of the consumer's complaints."

Right... and SCO will drop their lawsuit and release the UNIX code as public source, Republicans and Democrats will agree to work for what is best for the country and not what their party politics are, MS will donate millions to Open Source development, and every member of Slashdot will win the next Powerball lottery. Start holding your breath now folks :) First off, this is in no way going to be a permanent thing. This is a publicity stunt pure and simple, and prices will go back up to their existing levels within 6 months if not less, and that's even assuming retailers drop the prices by a corresponding amount and don't pocket the savings difference themselves.

we are happy to report that since January MandrakeSoft has been 'cash-flow positive'. Our immediate goal is to exit from this status before the end of the current year.

Okay, either there's a small mistake in that statement, or I think I may have found their problem ;)

  16. Re:aren't these just parodies on Tanya Grotter and the Magic Double Bass · · Score: 2, Funny
"Tanya Grotter" is clearly trying to ride the coat tails of the Harry Potter hype. Tanya Grotter appears to be somewhat derivative of Harry Potter.

Hang on a sec, is this article about Harry Potter or SCO/Linux? Cuz I coulda swore I've read that line before :)

  17. Re:Jury Duty on IBM Responds To SCO: Business As Usual · · Score: 1
I think this is the type of person that SCO is almost certainly looking for : someone who isn't technically inclined. They'll expect that this type of person will be extremely impressed and/or bored at a few lines of code, and will immediately see SCO as 'David' against the evil giant IBM 'Goliath' and immediately go with the underdog in this battle. This is assuming of course that it ends up in front of a jury, and not settled in some way out of court.

And the facts are going to come out during the trial anyways, so all you'd gain by signing the NDA is a small amount of time to look at the code before everyone else does.

What, you think it's gonna take until the trial for this info to leak? I give it an hour once the first people outside of SCO see the "proof" :)

If you read the article @ Insecure, the guy says when he heard it was in the movie, he asked if anybody could send him some screen captures and ended up being flooded with pics, video, etc. And mentions he found it strange that many of them showed Windows Media Player in the capture :) TPF
