  1. Everybody deserves a fair trial -- look at Germany on Saddam Hussein Arrested · · Score: 5, Insightful

Everybody deserves a fair trial. That's what democratic states promise to their citizens, and their enemies.

This basic right used to by highly valued in the US, too. Of course, now suspects are declared "terrorists" and put away to Guantanamo and other places, or left to "friendly" governments for torturing.

The very reason that a few days ago a suspect 9/11-collaborator was set free by the court was a lack of proof against him (likely the US' fault for not allowing an important witness to testify because said witness is "interrogated" by the CIA at an unknown location).
In Germany, at least, people can be sure not to be held prisoner without evidence.

The value of democratic principles can be seen best whan you look at how a state treats its enemies.

So who chose Sep 11? Just imagine the terrorists had achieved their goal and destroyed the White House, the Pentagon (or, more of it), and the Senate-- that might still happen. No choice when it happens and what happens.

American Forces might be strong, but if they can only fight a limited number of wars before they're getting too thin stretched.

The Roman Empire also had a superior army and Navy, yet that didn't help against barbarian hordes.

Yet we must admire the Roman policy of bringing peace to conquered territories (just thnk of Pax Romana).
This is an ability the US doesn't have at all. They're just nurturing more terrorists by planting hatred in people's minds.

The existence of a 3D game does NOT necessarily mean there is 3D acceleration. Fricking old idiots like me know that since Doom and Quake I.
Play this strange Star Wars game (forgot the name) on the GBA at 5-10 fps and you'll see there is NO hardware 3D acceleration.

Mobile phones are getting better and better for playing. So are PDAs. They have fast processors (well, relatively) and large color screens.
Therefore the GBA may become obsolete. If Nintendo isn't careful and offers some extra value (like 3D acceleration-- should be cheap, no?), there soon might be no reason left to buy a Gameboy.

Exactly. I don't say it all these things be of much benefit, but a few cool demos and clever advertising can make people believe the *need* 3d and whatever else.
For Video -- I see music videos as a good idea for content (easy to compress enough to fit on a CF or similiar card, especially considering the relatively small resolution of no more than 320x320).
And if the whole device is compatible to GBA, it could slowly replace it.

The GBA may be selling well but customers today expect 3D acceleration, MP3 and video playback... if Nintendo intruduces something like that while maintaining compatibility to GBA, it could be a big success.
Besides, as Nintendo is AFAIK not connected to any record- or film-company, that could mean a non-crippled non-DRM device.

It learns like a human child-- if a child hears somebody making a mistake, it still doesn't necessarily make the same mistake. As long as the majority of translations is correct, errors don't matter.
However, if there are translation errors that are more frequent than the correct translation, the system will think that this ist correct.

I think that's exactly what his system is about, it also analyzes context, so it works similiar to the human thinking. It takes the surrounding words into consideration and checks given translation.

E.g., wrong translations for the German word "Bank" which can mean both "bench" or "bank" are less likely, as a context like "sit, park..." would favor the translation "bench" while a context with "money, stock..." would lead the system to assume the meaning "bank" is more likely.

This way, it should be far superior to word-to-word based translation systems.
