> road wear is a function of the cube of the weight. What are you basing that upon? Pressure? Because I don't think it is that simple. Large trucks have more tyres and larger tyres to spread the load. I'm not saying they don't cause more damage, I'm just saying it is more complicated than vehicle weight. Also, I don't see roads wearing out, I see them damaged and potholes forming. To me (with no education in road engineering) this seems like it is caused mostly by poor road design and construction + heavy vehicles.
Close, but you forgot to add that despite the design flaws, functionality shortcomings and poor performance that make the system practically unusable, management will insist it be implemented NOW, replacing the previous unsexy but working, flexible and well understood system.
It's like those ads which say "Everything's on sale!." Yes, they will sell any of their stock to the public and make a sale when they exchange the goods for money.
If they are more advanced than we are, they will have little to learn from us, and instead, we will be seen as a competitor for resources, or a more direct threat, or likely to become one. So their best course of action would be to exterminate us.
Agreed. I would phrase it as "We are destroying the earth's capacity to provide us with a comfortable life". The earth won't come to an end. Probably humans won't come to an end. But we will not be able to carry on living the way we are doing so at present. Ironically, those living a traditional subsistence way of life will be least affected when the oil and minerals and metals and fertiliser become too expensive to use.
Because if man is to survive as a species, we must leave this planet.
I'd like to challenge that statement.
While I would agree that it looks like we are heading for disaster if we keep doing what we are currently doing (increasing population using up non-renewable resources), I am hopeful that at some point we will modify our behaviour. Because leaving the planet to consume resources somewhere else is just continuing the problem.
So, do you also pay $15 per month to your local shoe store to entitle you to go and try on any of the shoes they have for sale, and later buy the ones you like?
Not trying to be a dick here, if it is working for you, that's fine with me, but it is a little odd that you have to pay to sample music before you buy it.
Are you a shill for the nuclear industry? An astroturfer? Because that's the only reason I can think for such a stupid comment. I'm tired of all the pro-nuclear wankers on slashdot. Fine, coal is bad and we should try to replace it ASAP. But your relativism doesn't make nuclear desirable. It is another bad (and probably worse) energy source because it is INHERENTLY DANGEROUS!
I'd take a world powered by nuclear any day.
And if you replaced all of the coal-fired power plants around the world with nuclear, how many accidents do you think we would be having annually? How many major disasters would it take for you to admit it is a bad idea, because while it *can* be safe, it never *would* be safe.

Wait, are you saying that Anonymous is made up of anonymous people?
Man, I'm taking the blue pill.
Thunderbolt was the name of an infamous bushranger (highwayman/outlaw) here in Australia.
No, they've now analysed all the files and there is no steganography - it's just goat porn.
> faked the death of Osama Bin Laden
That's right! Show me the body, or it didn't happen!
So, sharpshooter = Samurai, Sniper = Ninja.
Like a sentry bot in Portal?
Correct. But mostly Windows.
A 10k years? Whatever, i'd rather buy the one that promises 10 years.
Yes, sounds hugely over-engineered to me. So how much has that unnecessarily long lifespan added to the cost?
It's like those ads which say "Everything's on sale!." Yes, they will sell any of their stock to the public and make a sale when they exchange the goods for money.
Also, even if Google are entirely trustworthy, is there absolutely zero chance that it could be subverted by malware?
Who knew?

I don't have time to grow a beard!
That is creepy @2:36
My magnificent porn collection disagrees with you.
I not enough evidence
I always took that to mean that they had dirt on senior police and/or the politicians who control them.
And is there any doubt that this has happened here?
Yes, it's interesting that they seize domain names.
If they find and break up a physical gambling den, do they seize the phone numbers?

At least the problems with nuclear are local-ish.
Fucking moron.
And some people still wonder why the public are opposed to nuclear power.
