So what's your solution exactly? In your ranting about how you were right and the reader had to wake up and realize how right you are, I failed to see where you presented a solution. Alright, I'll accept that a good portion of today's youth are not being properly parented. What do you want to do about it?
Is your solution government mandated "standards"? The government's stance on abortion is that it is a woman's right to choose. What if you want to raise a child and impart on it values that are counter to this? By the solution I assume you are trying to get at, this is outlawed. As soon as you impose standards to target the lowest common denominator, you bring down everyone else - you normally do not raise up the underachievers. That's why integrated classrooms where the dumb kids [that's right, dumb - not "slow"] who can't read are mixed in with the kids who are reading above grade level do not work. Next time you decide to rant and rave about a problem, spend less time trying to prove that there is a problem and instead devote your time to outlining a solution. Vague hand-waving doesn't get little Johnny to respect women.
I think that continuity gap that exists between Episode III and Episode IV is also a problem, in addition to Anakin's turn to the dark side. [A character's change to the dark side is enough for three movies, by the way, but with the way Lucas has established motivation and reason behind that movement, there's no point in making it 3. Anakin turns to the dark side but the viewer really doesn't care much about that turn because Anakin was never established as a likeable character.]
In Episode III, Luke and Leia are presumably born. If past precedence dictates anything, at the end of Episode III, Luke and Leia would be, at most, 6 months to 2 years old. [No more time than that is expended in any single Star Wars movie.] So you've got Luke at 2 years in III and then Luke at 18 or so in IV. All that time when Darth Vadar was kicking ass and making his name one to be feared won't see filming, ever. It seems like a big gap to me.
And why does copyright last so long these days? When the copyright laws were originally established, it was to protect artists and allow them to have adequate time to profit from their work. With primitive means of transportation and publication, it is understandable that it may take many years for an artist to fully get their work 'out there.' But these days, artists can make their money quite quickly. Copyright on Star Wars should have expired ten years after the first film was released. And just note that this doesn't mean Lucas couldn't have made I, II, or III - it just means his I would have had to compete on level ground with another version of I; a version that would have been superior, I am sure.
"Super Metroid (Nintendo) - With the popularity of Metroid recently, why hasn't this been given it's due re-issue?"
This article is about what classic games need to be remade - not reissued. The Metroid games have not been sitting idle on the shelf without any use, as Metroid Prime is clearly a remake of the traditional Metroid formula. I don't see your point in bringing this game up.
We're not talking about games that need to be reissued but rather old games that need to be updated and have games released for the latest hardware. Metroid Prime does just this for Super Metroid.
Too bad the broadband adapter for the Dreamcast is going to run you at least $100, if you can find it on Ebay - limiting the usefulness of the machine greatly if you want to use it as any type of server or thin client.
I've got Linux on my Dreamcast but it's seldom used due to the fact that it's got no hard drive and no broadband connection. I can solve one of these problems for a reasonable amount of money on the Gamecube platform.
Even if that were the case, how hard is it to reverse the bits of whatever iso you are burning before doing the actual burn? Think about it, that's an easy hardware solution.
Let's suppose the iso you want to be read is 111000, in a standard format. And let's imagine your pretend device that reads backwards, then just burn 000111 to the disc. Solution presented. The problems with replicating GC discs do not involve this supposed spinning backwards problem.
By the way, if you own a Gamecube, try hitting the open button when the disc is switching and checking out wheather the disc is spinning clockwise or counterclockwise. You'll then be wise enough to stop spreading this lie.
It was a fucking joke moron - based on the known fact that the RIAA has been suing many people as of late. You and the moderators are too fucking stupid to understand my humor. I hope you have a nice fucking life not being able to put a simple equation like "2 + 2" together, you fucking cumdumpster. Go fuck yourself you shit-eating fuck.
$35 to $60 for the broadband adapter? I've never seen it for more than $35. As for PSO, I would imagine that the price of that is going to be coming down a bit more quickly than the price of the average game. Case in point, Everquest for PS2 - since the company makes the money through the subscriptions, the cost of the game dropped fairly quickly to $20. I'm not saying that PSO will drop to $20 tomorrow but it might get there more quickly than the average game.
As for the pain of running the PSO exploit, you're right. That's a pain but if you're going to use it as a dumb terminal or a low end web server, why wouldn't it be on all the time anyway? Assuming you don't want to play games with your Gamecube anymore.
Given that this hack doesn't require that any copy protection be circumvented, as far as I can tell, it shouldn't be the case that the DMCA is being violated. Therefore, I would say that something like the original Game Genie court case could be used in citing case law where running code not endorsed by Nintendo is proven to be legal - and in that case it involved a company trying to make a profit, here we've just got hobbyists trying to do something interesting and not looking to make a buck.
Nintendo can put whatever they want into the EULA but it doesn't mean that their statements will hold up in court. I don't have my EULA that came with my Gamecube available to me so I can't check it over and I haven't been able to find a copy online so maybe someone can quote theirs - but, I think that even if Nintendo makes statements regarding this type of operation, it wouldn't hold up in court.
Perhaps as a thin client which would access multimedia files on one of your PCs that isn't in the living room - thus delivering movies and music that you've got on your PC to your television. That's one use.
Another use I can see is a very cheap [and pretty weak] web server. Sure, the GC isn't going to be able to handle huge loads but if you're running a video gamers league for you and a few of your friends, how fitting would it be to have that site being served by a Gamecube?
There are two uses where high-capacity storage is not needed.
Here's an option, buy the keyboard and mouse package. Then, superglue a piece of string to the top of the mouse and run that string to the back of the computer and tie it onto something back there. Voila, you've got a wireless keyboard and a wired mouse - just like you wanted!
It should be clear that no one else needs to post in this article.
Knowing when he started working on this doesn't mean that you know how much time he spends on his hobby. If he can only devote one hour every year to his hobby, you wouldn't make a snide remark, would you?
Come on, use some logic. You don't have enough information with only the year the project was started to make a comment in the vein that you want to.
"the statement clearly implies your belief that money spent dictates who wins elections."
No it doesn't. It clearly implies that I was agreeing with that point for the sake of my post. It doesn't prove "belief" in the statement. My larger point was in regards to someone actually doing something if they have a problem with the status quo.
It implies that in the context of my post, I was agreeing that the parent was correct but you are assuming that translates into an actual belief beyond the scope of a single post. This is false. I know this is hard for you to understand but it is the case. Are you aware that sometimes, in discussion, you may allow a person to make a statement you don't actually agree with and just roll with it in order to make a much more important point? [You may answer this question.]
"Hint: Profanity does NOT make you sound intelligent or passionate, but rather, crude, classless, tasteless and uneducated."
You think I care about how I sound to you? Or anyone else on Slashdot? Slashdot is a means of entertainment. I don't come here for anything other than to be amused. You mean nothing to me and your opinion of me also means nothing to me. To that end, I will not be replying to you again. I sincerely hope you can understand how in an argument, one will give up on arguing one point in order to make a larger one.
Well, I didn't actually make the statement that the person who spends the most money is going to win the election [if you would read my fucking post]. The point I was making is that it's easy to sit at your computer and whine about how the system works [I chose not to contest his statement that Bush will win the election purely because he has the most money.] then to actually help to do something about it. Furthermore, there are plenty of elections where the candidate with the most money won so your single example is not going to prove your argument.
Don't fucking tell me to do research when I did not endorse what the person I was responding to was saying you fucking idiot.
What's your solution to the problem of the voting public being swayed into voting for whoever spends the most money and gets the most face time on television?
It's easy to criticize the system or the people running it. It's a lot harder to actually help to solve the problems. The Democrats seem to have shifted from being a party with ideals and thoughts of their own to being the party of nay-sayers. Of course, this will get modded down. But I have karma to burn and I'd like you to think about how you can help to change the status quo instead of just whining about it. You've spent 30 seconds making a snide post to Slashdot - can you commit any more time, thought, or action to your cause?
"No. There are certainly some crimes for which that punishment is fitting."
Hey retard, did you notice how I began my statement by saying "By this logic"? You know why I said that? Because I was replying to a post which brought up the cruel and unusual clause. The post I was responding to was not arguing that prison time was not a fitting punishment for the crime but rather that the punishment itself, sending an old man to prison where he would probably die, was cruel and/or unusual. Therefore when you say "No" to what I said and tell me about how that punishment fits some crimes, I immediately know that you didn't follow the thread and are, in fact, retarded. The AC I was replying to was making an entirely different argument than the one you are making. For fuck's sake, don't waste my time with this shit.
And by the way, I don't give a fuck about wheather you want any movies ever again. You've proven yourself to be too stupid to follow a simple thread and therefore I could not care less about what you do with your life as long as you stay the fuck out of my way. Of course, you sound so dumb that I would imagine you can't get a job and will eventually be on welfare - living off my hard earned money. But as long as you stay in the ghetto where you and the other social deviants belong, I am happy to watch you rot on a small pittance each month.
How is it cruel or unusual to send a man to prison for breaking a law? First of all, it's not unusual at all - there are many people being sent to prison every day. Cruel? I don't know about that. Your argument is that it is more cruel to impose this sentence on a person of great age because they are likely to die in prison, whereas a younger person who commits a crime would eventually get out and therefore wouldn't die in prison - if I am to understand your reasoning correctly.
By this logic, anyone sentenced to life without parole has received a cruel sentence and should be released? The cruel and unusual punishment clause says nothing of the punishment fitting the crime. Sending people to prison for periods of time is accepted in this society as not being cruel and since it is accepted, it is not unusual.
The fact is, if the old man wanted to live his last years out free and unfettered, he should not have broken the law. If you don't have enough years left to do the time, don't commit the crime - right?
The cruel and unusual clause has no merit here and you are incorrect to bring it up.
"players to put their own face onto a player in a football game"
Great, spend the time getting your face photographed correctly, get it mapped into 3D, save it, start playing a game, and realize... FOOTBALL PLAYERS HAVE HELMETS ON!!!
This might work for other sports games but come on, football helmets make all this trouble pretty worthless.
And don't get me started on what I think of NFL Street.
How do you know you're burning 900 to 1000 calories? If you're using some type of exercise machine that gives a calorie count, you should know that those are fairly inaccurate. They're an estimate. Besides, you shouldn't be focused on how many calories you're burning. You should just focus on getting your heart rate up for an extended period of time [30 minutes to an hour per day, at least] and consuming a reasonable amount of food.
Yes but why did I bring up the Greatest Hits line? Do you remember or were you so offended to realize that there's someone smarter than you that you have to try to prove me wrong, regardless of the original conversation? You replied rudely to my original post that MS never cut prices on their old operating systems. I gave you a counterexample to show that video game prices are cut by the manufacturers. I did not say that the prices match up exactly with the original $15 example I was using, did I?
Learn to read in the correct context or I'll think that you're really fucking stupid.
Here's what you're missing - Netflix and AOL deal directly with the end user. Video games companies go through middlemen who seek to make a profit themselves. That's where the savings come from.
By the way, when you begin a comment by saying "Um guess what." you look very stupid.

Is this summary correct? Shouldn't that lawsuit be the other way around - record companies suing Sherman?
Nintendo can put whatever they want into the EULA but it doesn't mean that their statements will hold up in court.
