The niche isn't gone. I know a small company that used a couple asus netbooks on the sales floor to work with customers to take orders (wedding invitations). As those asus devices died they were replaced with HP Stream 11 devices which I would consider to be the modern day equivalent of what we used to call netbooks. Even with a larger screen they are lighter and have better battery life. they have limited local storage, but the customer orders are stored on a local server so no need for a lot of local storage.

I am almost entirely caught up on my current list, except for "The Way I Heard It" which I just added last week. I'll use this slashdot article to select some new ones.
Actually I suspect you are thinking of MMC (Multi-Media Card), which was the same form factor as SD but without the protected segment or whatever. CF pre-dated MMC/SD, was about 2.5 times as big physically, and was common in digital cameras.
I know what I get in exchange for trading my information with Google and I know how to secure my communications when necessary for sensitive information Google and I both benefit from the relationship. When a third party gets their malware on a phone (hasn't happened to me) the user of that device has not made an informed decision to make that trade and rarely benefits from it.
Not sure which latest Nooks you are talking about, but since they are rebranded samsung tablets with qualcom processors and not mediatek processors, you shouldn't need to.
I know what information I am giving google and I know what value I get in return. I consider it a fair trade.
Facebook on the other hand, I don't use any of their apps (all of which want my location) and when I access FB via mobile web, I reply no to the browser prompt that the site wants my location. Facebook doesn't give me anything worth sharing my location...
There have been years where neither team in the Super Bowl interested either me or my wife and we recorded it to fast forward through the game to watch the commercials. Of course now days most of the commercials are released, or leak, on the internet well before the game.
"Whuffie, a form of digital social reputation, replaces money and is a constantly updated rating that measures how much esteem and respect other people have for a person. This rating system determines who gets the few scarce items, like the best housing, a table in a crowded restaurant, or a good place in a queue for a theme park attraction."
I've been contemplating cord cutting and sports, specifically Big Ten Network, was the second to last stumbling block. Then found that Playstation Vue has BTN and many other sports channels so that roadblock is gone. Now just need to figure out DVR options so the wife can watch the damn soaps.
Which brings me to a rant, if the fsking cable has to be smarter than some strands of copper insulated from each other and of appropriate gauge to carry the current, the fsking standard is flawed to begin with. At no point whatsoever should cables have ever been an issue. All the "smarts" should be in the devices themselves!
One of the most common causes of business failure is expanding too rapidly. You don't need an MBA to know that, a undergrad intro to business class would be enough.

In total, the investigation found 110 emails in 52 email chains containing information that was classified at the time it was sent or received. Eight chains contained top secret information, the highest level of classification, 36 chains contained secret information, and the remaining eight contained confidential information. Most of these emails, however, did not contain markings clearly delineating their status.
Even so, Clinton and her team still should have known the information was not appropriate for an unclassified system, Comey said.
"There is evidence to support a conclusion that any reasonable person in Secretary Clinton's position or in the position of those with whom she was corresponding about the matters should have known that an unclassified system was no place for that conversation," Comey said of some of the top secret chains....
Throughout this saga, Clinton has said she turned over all work-related emails to the State Department. But Comey said FBI investigators uncovered "several thousand" work-related emails that she had not handed over, and three of those were classified at the time they were sent, though they were not marked as such.

The/a niche for these still exists.

Facebook users are flagging THIS as misleading, and you won't believe WHY!

The irony here is that my experience with Windows 10 is what finally drove me to switch to Linux full time on my personal laptop.

Yeah, but why is that 5 cent resistor in the cable and not the device the cable would plug into?
In my family we have a number of Anker products as well, all of which I am happy with.
That said, Anker did do a recall and replacement for some of their USB 3 cables: https://plus.google.com/+Benso...

I think the article was talking about tech inside the phone, Qualcomm quick charge 3 etc. Not third party accessories.
Hardly pointless: http://www.popularmechanics.co...

Actually he got a plea bargain where he plead guilty to a misdemeanor mis-handling confidential documents to avoid Felony charges of espionage.
